Le Cellier was "OK", quick review

Well, hopefully they enjoyed her comments!:) I am joining 12 other Diser's here in December...wonder how cramped that will be?! Geez, I feel bad for the servers, it cant be easy to do their jobs if tables are so close together.

After trying on 2 or 3 trips to get dinner ressies and not succeeding, I now have a lunch reservation for my trip in January. Up til now, the comments I read over the years have been good to great. All of a sudden there are negatives coming from people who have eaten there recently. Now I am wondering if I should cancel my lunch reservation. I don't normally eat a sit-down lunch and was doing it only because that was the only time I could get in to Le Cellier. Is the lunch menu the same as the dinner menu? If not, what should I have at lunch?

The food was passable at best including the much-lauded filet. This steak could never be compared to that at Brown Derby or CA Grill, both of which I'd had earlier in the week. The worst part was how rushed we felt. Our server even held off turning in our appetizer order while we waited to order our entrees, a strategy so often recommended to avoid this rush job. I assume "Le Cellier" must be French Canadian slang for "Fast Food..."

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Really!:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

I hardly think it is right to compare the food to food at Brown Derby or CA Grill since they are more expensive restaurants.

We did not enjoy our service here either and will choose to go elsewhere next time...we thought the food was better than "fast food" though. If this is somewhere you really want to try I would...

I would not cancel but I am not familiar with the lunch menu.

There will always be good and bad reviews of every restaurant. Our experience was not bad and like I said in the opening post, we will be returning. It just was not as great as I had expected. Do give it a try though.

Mom & I consider ourselves "foodies"--we love to try new restaurants, new food, do not consider ourselves picky, but we refuse to eat what does not taste good. We are also from Nebraska where we have EXCELLENT beef, and I am always hesitant to order beef outside of the midwest....

THAT BEING SAID.....Le Cellier was the BEST meal of our trip, all agreed! (and we had TERRIFIC meals...Ohanas, Boma, Le Chef de France, WPC, Narcoossees; PH, too--more chain food there)

DH & DM declared it the best steaks they have ever had; I felt the same about my salmon (Mom declared it second only to the salmon she had IN Alaska!) My butternut squash risotto was SOOO good...the beer cheese soup as well as the spicy chicken & sausage with polenta were out of this world! Desserts had great presentation, but were not as good as the rest of the meal (this was the case at every meal except Narcoosees--the dessert winner!)

I was worried about the hype, but it totally lived up for us! We liked it even better than Narcoosees, a 2 TS meal---which was still wonderful, don't get me wrong!

This is what's posted on Allears about the chef change in August 2007:

The new executive chef for Jiko - The Cooking Place is Brian Piasecki. This is a good news. Brian comes to Jiko from Le Cellier Steakhouse at Epcot's Canada and the Rose and Crown at Epcot's United Kingdom. Previously, Brian was a chef at the Coral Reef Restaurant at the Living Seas. Under Brian's leadership, the reputation of Le Cellier has reached a point that makes Le Cellier one of the hardest-to-get dining reservations at Walt Disney World. Brian replace Anette Grecchi Gray, who left Jiko for an opportunity with Carlson Companies, Inc., the parent company of T.G.I. Friday's, Radisson Hotels, and other restaurant, hospitality, and travel services brands. This information was announced Thursday evening, August 2, at a Jiko Wine Dinner. (Thanks to Werner Weiss for this news!)

I wonder if we'll see Jiko start to climb to LeCellier's heights, now that they have his chef.....

We tried LC this past August and while it was good and all, my DH and I didn't think this was a must for us each trip. I didn't like where they placed us, so maybe that has something to do with the impression I got because we were right next to where they ring up everything so we had a constant parade of servers walking by us the whole meal. We will try it again, but like I said it won't be every trip.
