Le Cellier - My Truth About Series

Thank you for this thorough review! We've heard such good things about Le Cellier, so we really wanted to try it. Last time we went to WDW we weren't able to get a reservation, but we do have one for our upcoming trip.

I ate at Tutto Italia on my first visit to WDW and I thought it was excellent.

Yes, for my family, Tutto Italia seems to be a more important restaurant to dine at than Le Cellier. We have consistently had excellent meals at Tutto Italia, whereas Le Cellier is really a hit or miss based on the waiter or waitress you get. But unlike some people, I've found the Le Cellier food to be consistent.

We love LeCellier but we are Canadian so I guess you could say we are biased. :rotfl: This is a very fair review of the restaurant, it isn't perfect by any means but I have never had bad food or servers here, knowing we were Canadians probably didn't hurt with the server part of that.
The crowding of tables has actually been a neat way of meeting people for us. Had some great conversations with a variety of different people. Eating as two we are always in that row of tables of two down the middle so I can't say how the rest of the place is.
I don't think we would pay out of pocket for here but I could say the same for most restaurants on site. It doesn't matter if we can get in but it is a disappointment if we can't. Actually that was why we ended up trying Tutto Italia in our 2007 trip and were pleasantly surprised after reading some bad reviews and will go back there again.
Just goes to show, try it yourself you may or may not like it, everyone's different.

Of the four times I've dined at Le Cellier, three were in a party of 2 and the other was in a party of 3, so we are used to being seated in the row of two-seaters. You are absolutely right that it does offer a chance for some friendly conversation, as everyone is usually very sociable and outgoing. On the party of three occasion, we were seated pretty close to the row of two-seaters, but had a pretty good view of the entire restaurant, which is obviously very nicely decorated.

Although I am Canadian I have to say we are not fans :guilty: Tried it twice now, second time to give it another shot but for us did not live up to the hype, even the mushroom filet - although the Chef may have just had a heavy hand with the salt that day. Waiter was ok but almost had a used car salesman sheen about him ie: whispering "I've given you an extra large pour on your wine - this is way more than I'm supposed to give"

That stinks that you didn't enjoy yourself at Le Cellier. You probably just dined on a bad day, because I've never found the filet to be salty.

We are able to make the ADRs for our upcoming trip on February 25th, and we will be making two at Le Cellier. Although on our two past trips, we've had two reservations at Le Cellier, we always end up canceling one for a second reservation at a restaurant we loved (Teppan Edo, The Wave), but this year I've vowed that we will not change our second reservation.

Friday night 2/12, 7:45 reservation, seated in 10 minutes. Ordered the Beer Cheese soup all around (4) to take the chill out of the 35 degree weather, wonderful as ever. Ordered 1 Mushroom filet, and 2 New York strips, shared one, all arrived perfectly cooked and flavorful. Our server was lovely, kept replenishing our drinks and tended to our dining needs very quickly and pleasantly. It was bitterly cold Friday night, the restaurant was less hectic because of the time and the weather, we enjoyed a rrelatively quiet and leisurely meal which ended with a shared Maple Creme Brulee.

Back in love with Le Cellier!

My family dines at Le Cellier pretty much every year. We think its just amazing. The food, atmosmphere are amazing and the workers really make you feel at home. More than other places.

Has anyone tried the Veal T-Bone at Le Cellier? I was thinking of ordering it last trip but at the last minute, decided to go with the old standby - the Mushroom Filet.

Thanks guys!:cool1:

good luck getting an answer! I tried for months to get an answer to this question, even started a whole new thread with the question. too late for my trip, but can anyone help usaswimmer out? (I'd also like to know, for future ref)

Thanks for the honest review. I am going back and forth on this one. It was one of my very favorites when dh and I went back in '99, however, the maple glazed salmon I had is no longer on the menu so not sure.....I am wondering dose disney frown on people splitting entrees? We won't be on the dining plan and ds and I usually split food at counter service. Is that acceptable at TS restaurants as well or no? thanks!

i asked the waiter his opinion on the veal t-bone.

he said it wasn't selling well.

he recommended i go with the steak.

Very few actually charge for sharing. In fact Le Cellier is amongst a few of the restaurants where my son and I always share an entre. We both love the soup so we each get a bowl of the beer cheddar soup and then split a New York strip, which leaves room for the Maple Creme Brulee and we leave there stuffed. They bring us an extra warm plate so we can divide the meal. It works quite well, as neither of us would ever be able to finish an entire meal and or even consider having dessert.

BB~thanks for the reply! That soup looks really yummy but I don't really want an entire entree....looks like it will work well to do the split plate thing! :cutie:

Yes, Le Cellier let's you split appetizers, entrees, desserts. If you're going to split an entree, I'd go with the New York Strip and not the Filet. Unless you're a very light eater, the Filet could leave you unsatisfied.

I'm so excited because I got 2 reservations for Le Cellier on my upcoming trip! I can't wait to have the Filet and Mushroom Risotto again!

EDIT - I've wanted to make a change to my thread for a long time but never really knew how to best address the change. Because my threads deal with individual restaurants, they often do not engage much discussion because they are catered toward one thing. And other times readers feel they cannot post unless a comment is relevant to the review in the first post. I am changing the title of the thread to allow for a completely open discussion of the restaurant.

did you mean "series" in the title or serious?

Series...they have a number of interesting point of view posts on various restuarants....used to all start with something like "The Truth About [insert dining location].

So guessing they are referring to their series of posts.

I think I had a few issues that prevent me from giving Le Cellier a glowing recommendation.

1) Over hype from these boards. People post how Le Cellier was the "best' steak they ever had so of course I go in expecting an almost biblical experience. :rotfl:

2) Prior restaurant experience: Since I'm a big city gal (born & bred) I've been to some great steakhouses in NY, LA and Washington DC. Le Cellier is not even in the same league. It's hard to not compare it to other great steak houses.

3) My grandfather and uncle owned a restaurant in NYC for most of my life. every kid in my family spent summers working in it. So I know that there are better quality of steaks out there than Disney is serving.

That being said, I've never had a "Bad" meal there. If I had to give it a rating it would be a C+
I had the Cheddar soup and loved it but imo, there's a problem if the soup is the best part of the meal. I had the Mushroom filet mignon. It was ok, pretty tender but not extremely flavorful. Dh had the scallops. big mistakes absolutely no taste what so ever. I did chalk this up to his fault, I mean you don't go to a steak house for seafood so they may not give it the attention like they do the steaks.

Service was good. Our server was attentive and pleasant but not hovering.

We paid cash for this meal so definitely not worth the ~210 bucks for a family of 4.

Would I recommend this restaurant? Only if you are on the DDP, if you're paying cash I would probably recommend walking over to the Dolphin and enjoying Shulas.

With the change of title and intent of this thread, the moderators took a few minutes to discuss where this thread should go now.

Reviews are one person's opinion, and what the review board was set up for. There is some discussion amongst those posting on the review threads, but it's not an open discussion about a particular restaurant.

Open discussion is great, it's what the DIS is made of. However, an open discussion about a restaurant belongs on the main board where everyone can discuss a particular restaurant.

Since the OP wants to change their review to an open discussion, we are going to close the review thread (this one) and invite him to start an open discussion thread about LeCellier on the main board.
