Le Cellier - Disappointing

My $22 filet mignon was VERY VERY small with a VERY small amount of parmesan mashed potatoes underneath. However, the steak was tender, and cooked just right with the perfect spice blend. But for $22 it was WAY too small.
The menu says the filet is 5 ounces. That's why it was a small steak! :rotfl:

We ate here last night and enjoyed our meal. First timers so we we went with the standards, cheddar cheese soup and mushroom filet. It was very good, I would not consider it the best I ever had but the filet was very tender and cooked just right. The mushroom risotto was definately salty but we were OK with that. For someone not fond of salt or has a dietary need, do not get this if its a problem. We enjoyed the atmosphere. Our only complaint was that our server was rushing us a bit but we slowed that down. Now that we tried Le Cellier, I don't think we will go back any time soon because there are so many others to try.

I loved this restaurant when it was cafeteria-styled years ago. I really miss the meat pie and was sad to see it go. I couldn't figure out why they didn't keep it on the lunch menu at least.

I enjoyed it as a buffeteria very much.

I didn't try the Canoli at Tutto, I did enjoy the Tirimasu as well as the ice cream with berries and cream. (the latter was wonderful!!!!)

The 5 ounce filet size doesn't bother me. I'd never had my steaks really overcooked before, and both were this time. The mushroom filet used to be my favorite meal on property, now it's not really a mushroom filet. It is a filet on salty mushroom risotto. I have always had such great meals here, where I'd want to go right back. I wish now that we'd done something else for lunch, like Trails End.

We couldn't wait to get back to Le Cellier because we enjoyed it so much on our last trip. We actually had reservations there twice on our trip last week. Once was enough! We were so disappointed with our meals that we cancelled our second ressie. :sad2:

It always gets high marks from people who love to eat alot of Meat.
I had to rule this resaurant out because I don't eat meat like Beef, Chicken or pork.
I do eat salmon and I only saw it on the dinner menu,
only one way that it was prepaired (not much choice for anyone who
in not a true carnivore).

We ate at Le Cellier last week - it was the third time going for us, but the first time my parents were going there so I really was excited for them to experience the restaurant. We all ordered the mushroom filet except dh who had the steak w/the bbq sauce - anyway, all of our risotto & filets were SO SALTY, to the point that we couldn't eat them. I felt really bad since I was the one who bragged about this restaurant so much, then they couldn't enjoy the meal because it was so salty. We all enjoyed all the other parts of the meal very much, its a shame the entree ruined it.

I'm really sorry! I was thinking I'd get flamed for saying something anti-Le Cellier, but I know how good it has been in the past (one of my very favorites, if not my favorite on property). And two mediocre meals is not normal, I can only guess it's the chef they now have. I was also told that a manager (a favorite of the cast) recently was moved, which is normal - chefs and managers rotate. I don't think my filets were oversalty, just overcooked - but the risotto was soooo salty.

I ate at Le Cellier last week on the 26th for dinner and we also had Patrick. He was incredible. Always quick on the refills, very much in the know about his tables and he was cute and funny...I hope we are all talking about the same guy. I had the prime rib, medium rare and it was excellent. Of course he didn't tell me it would be huge. I only was able to eat half.

One thing I liked about him was his knowledge of the menu. He was able to recommend two amazing appetizers, the chedder cheese soup which the other person in my party had and the duck, which I had. Both were out of this world good. I have always been a fan of duck but it is rare to see it on a menu.

Now I wish we had left him an extra tip to go along with the DDP gratuity, he was definately worth a bit extra,

Definitely, talking about the same guy!

I have a friend who invited me to Le Cellier on Sunday (his treat). I really don't want to go back, but promised. So I'll get a third crack at it in a week - but I'd rather just cook at home. :)

It has been a favorite of ours for years but the quality just wasn't there this summer. Sad to say we didn't book it for this trip, we choose to book an extra 2 TS instead.

Patrick is an awsome waiter. He has actually been there a little over 2 years. We met him back in October 2005 when he had only been there two months. He was at the podium at that time and he would entertain the kids with those balancing sticks from China so we never forgot him. We saw him in Aug 06 and again this September 06 and have talked with him both times. We teased him this year that he was never going back to Canada. I didn't ask but figured he probably decided to stay on his own. He is too good to send back to Canada.

About the food. We must have been really lucky because this September our food was excellent. I had the bbq filet and it was perfect. I was sad we didn't make more than one reservation there that trip. My DH and DS kept asking for more pretzel bread and they were happy to give it to us. They did make us wait when we were done for quite a while because they were having problems getting the charges to go through. I just figured no biggie.

Denise,

I have to agree with you -- the quality has definitely gone down recently. :sad1:

I just wanted to say that I was at the first Food & Wine Pairing on 9/28 and it was AWESOME! :cloud9: Chef Christian, who is now at Rose & Crown, prepared the food and it was delicious! :thumbsup2

I've noticed over the years that you have to watch and follow the head chefs at Disney, if you want a good meal.

Past reputation of the restaurant won't tell you a thing.

I am definitely looking forward to going to Jiko and seeing what's up over there, next year, once the new guy settles in!

I wonder who is over at Coral Reef now, then? Maybe it's worth another try.

I have enjoyed this restaurant for as long as I can remember, even before it was a steakhouse.

I did 11 nights on the dining plan (though used many credits "to-go" and are in my fridge/freezer). It is too much food for me to eat on the DDP, but it was free - so I had a chance to try some new restaurants, and old. My favorite was Tutto Italia, the food was GREAT, I was there 3 times.

Le Cellier on the other hand, was not so good. The first night, I ordered the mushroom filet. For those who remember, the filet actually used to be stuffed with mushrooms. That was the best. Then it was with large mushrooms, and it was still great. Now, it's mushrooms chopped up into risotto (I don't even like risotto, at least this was pretty salty). The experience was great - I had lovely people on either side of me. Unfortunately on the left side of me, they had their ticket lost and it took an hour for them to get their food. On the right side, they received HUGE steaks, and then the waiter brought (as they requested) a tiny souffle cup of extra au jus. He didn't tell them until that moment that it was an extra cost. In the end, I don't think he charged for it - but we all found it amusing that they'd charge extra for what essentially is the juice of the steak.

The second time, my DH and I went for lunch. The filet was okay, the chocolate moose was excellent, as was the beef barley soup. But the steaks just don't seem the same to me anymore, and I used to really enjoy this restaurant (for many, many years). I'm not in any rush to go back. Also, the chef is from another restaurant - the last chef went to Jiko, and I was told that the new chef is from The Coral Reef. Our waiter for the second meal was EXCELLENT, his name is Patrick - I'd ask for him if I went back again. The first waitress was okay, but my DH and I both agreed that Patrick would be on top of any lost ticket (you could tell that he was very aware and on top of his tables).

Denise

oh no, I love LeCellier and HATED Coral reef so now the chef I hated is at LeCellier. Bummer, I donn't know if I will want ot go there in the spring.

We were there for lunch this past Sunday, and for the first time ever, I had to send my food back. I had ordered my steak medium well, and it came out rare as could be. DH's was perfectly cooked, however, but he complained about the risotto as well, since he was expecting mushrooms. For the record I should say that we like salt, and he noticed that it was especially salty.

Mine came back better cooked, but let's just say the presentation wasn't as good after they pulled the steak off, then re-cooked and put it back together, lol.

We were a little disappointed, and probably won't be returning any time soon. I'd like to say, however, that the cheese soup, breadsticks, and creme brulee were their usual excellent quality!

We didn't have Patrick, but we had the older lady who always sings in French when the wait staff opens the restaurant with "Oh Canada" and she was excellent.

Is there a way to send this link to the chef at the restaurant?
Maybe he/she would get the hint??

I agree on the breadsticks, I tried my husbands cheese soup (which I'd never had before), and those were really good. As the other items I mentioned. Just not the steak, potatoes, risotto, etc. :)

We ate at Le Cellier on Monday 10/1 -- the 25th anniversary of Epcot.
There was a special dish that day (for the anniversary). It was Beef Tourtiere (I think that's how it was spelled) with plain mashed potatoes and gravy. I ate the pots. and about 4 bites of the beef dish. It was terrible! I couldn't eat it. It was just a bowl of overly salted ground beef with a couple of small pieces of carrots with a pastry top over the bowl. It wasn't even okay -- it was inedible -- the salt burned my tongue.

The waitress saw that I didn't eat it and asked about it. I told her that is was waaaaaay too salty and when she brought the check she told me that she took it off of the bill.

Maybe we can collectively request them to stop using so much salt. :) And add mushrooms to the mushroom filet. I would be happy with that.

What is funny is that one of my main complaints about the food at Coral Reef was that it was too salty.
