Friday 19 February 2010 - Day Two

Unsurprisingly, we were up in the night with Eric, but managed to settle him down in bed with us and didn't wake up properly until 7.30 am which wasn't bad going. We all had some froot loops with marshmallows for breakfast (which prompted Andy to go buy more cereal, haha) and Eric had a yogurt and an orange too. We got dressed and set off for the Magic Kingdom at 9.15 am. I was in a pretty bad mood until we left the villa as I was apprehensive about today - the day my dad had his heart attack was a Friday when we were supposed to be going to the Magic Kingdom so I kept expecting a phone call.

Once we arrived in the parking lot we got on the tram and then opted for the ferry - a quieter option not least because of the cooler weather, I suspect. On getting into the park, we headed straight to the barbers shop so that Eric and Andy could both get their hair cut. It's on a first come, first served basis, so you just wait until one of the CMs becomes available. We waited maybe half an hour but Eric found a little girl to play with who kept hugging him (he is certainly one for the ladies!)

Although Eric has actually had his hair cut twice before, we decided that we should claim this was his first hair cut - after all, it was his first hair cut
in the Magic Kingdom! He got a bit upset when I tried to sit him in the chair by himself, I'm not surprised, I thought it was a bit of a daft idea myself,
but he was quite happy sitting on my knee and they gave him one of those spinning Mickey toys to play with. The barber who cut his hair was called Rex and he made a really nice job of it. Afterwards, he gave Eric a whole load of Mickey stickers, a certificate of bravery and some mouse ears with First Haircut on the back (which of course Eric refused to wear). Andy then had his not first hair cut (but still first hair cut in the Magic Kingdom!) and got Mickey confetti (pixie dust) on top. Rex told Andy that he had worked for Disney for 18 years, originally working in the hair and makeup department. Andy got quite a few comments about his hair, but my favourite was from a woman who stopped him to ask if he knew that there was all this stuff on top of his head! Seriously.

We decided to go for an early lunch when we finished off there so headed to El Pirate Y el Perico which isn't usually open when we visit, so we had only been there once before. Me and Andy got beef tacos with rice to share and we ordered Eric a cheese quesadilla which came with grapes and carrots. Eric ate our rice and the grapes but not the quesadilla so Andy ate that. I went to ask for another packet of carrots as they were out of date, but was told they had no more so I got another packet of grapes instead. The CM assured me that they would sort it out though (I really wasn't that bothered!) but they were still handing out packages of carrots when we left. Eric much preferred the grapes though and ate the second packet later on.

Eric had a nap in his stroller so we took the opportunity to buy a phone card and ring my mum as I knew she would be worrying about us. Phone cards are
available in a machine over to the left underneath the train station, next to the Will Call window - I thought I would share this information as finding it out was almost impossible. When I was a kid we had this video (ask your parents what that is if you are under 12) of the 12 tasks of Asterix and there was this one where he kept getting sent to different windows in this office to find a permit, in the end he nearly went crazy - it was much like that. I asked at the Emporium who sent me to City Hall. I asked at City Hall and they told me to go to the Emporium, hmm. When I said I had already been there they told me it was either at the news stand (it wasn't) or at the area where the phones are (as described above, the actual correct location).

We went back to the Emporium after I spoke to my mum so that we could have a browse whilst Eric was asleep. I bought a baby Boo (which Eric adopted into his cot a few days later!) and a Playhouse Disney CD for Eric. He was most put out that morning that the cable wasn't working so he couldn't get any of the TVs on! We knew that the CD was almost as good an alternative and he loves all the songs from his favourite shows.

When Eric woke up he played in the fountain near the baby care center for a while. He was full of beans so we put his reins on and he had a good run round, ending up at Pooh's Playful Spot. He loved seeing Pooh and "Tig" who were posing for photos nearby, but we didn't queue up because the line was very long. I went over to get us FPs for the Winnie the Pooh ride and we also got surprise FPs for Philharmagic. Eric went down the slide at the Playful Spot several times and ran round letting off some steam.

We headed over to Philharmagic next to use our FPs and, by chance, timed it right so that we only had to wait a couple of minutes. Eric unsurprisingly
didn't want to wear the 3D glasses but I think he enjoyed it anyway as he liked hearing songs that he would recognise and the voices of the characters that he knows from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

We got some fries from the Friar's Nook which were so good. I don't know if they are that good or if it was just "We're in the Magic Kingdom" good! We ate them on our way over to Tomorrowland then rode the TTA and the Carousel of Progress. We didn't realise it until we rode again at the end of our holiday but the TTA wasn't working properly and much of the inside bit was in complete darkness which wasn't ideal for E, but he didn't really bother. I was worried that CoP would be a bit boring for him but he sat and watched quite happily, which I was so pleased about because I love that attraction. I was also so pleased that whilst in Tomorrowland, someone shouted over that they loved my Hill valley shirt! My brother bought me it for Christmas and I wear it all the time because I LOVE Back to the Future.

We used our Winnie the Pooh FPs next and Eric really liked this ride, especially the queuing up (!) because he was pointing out and naming all the
characters. After that ride we watched the Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It parade which I think could have been Eric's favourite thing of all. He LOVED
this parade and we must have watched it at least 6 or 7 times. He got so excited at seeing all the characters and dancing to the music. It had gone by in the morning whilst we were in the barber shop and he had seemed really interested then, he loved the folks on stilts as well as the characters.

We went to Columbia Harbour House for tea. Andy had a Lighthouse sandwich (hummus, tomato and slaw) with Miss vickie crisps which he saved for later and me and Eric both had mac and cheese and fries from the kids menu with a chocolate chip cookie each. Eric would only eat the fries so me and Andy ate the rest of the stuff. Eric ate very little variety of stuff on this trip, I'm sure none of you will believe me when I tell you that at home he will eat anything I put in front of him!

A quick picture of Splash Mountain - dry! It was closed for rehab.

We left the park after tea (managed to get on the monorail this time) and Eric fell asleep on the way back to the villa about 8 pm. We put him pretty much
straight into bed and then Andy went for a shower because for some reason he didn't want to go to Walmart until he had washed the pixie dust out of his
hair?!

Whilst Andy did his showering and shopping, I rang our friend Kari who had left a message to say that her parents would be passing tomorrow, so we arranged to meet up and say hello. Andy had bought us a mobile phone in Walmart the night before which was great because calls and texts were so much cheaper.

We sat at the kitchen bar and drank Bud Lites and headed to bed about midnight. Incidentally, me and Andy celebrated 15 years of being together on this day.

Laur's what a wonderful way to celebrate your 15 year meeting anniversary. I can understand you being a bit aprehensive that morning but I am glad the day went well! I love Eric and Andy's hair, my gang always go in here for a trim and the gel they love it LOL! Great pics, Eric is getting so big he is adorable!:)

Sounds like you had a wonderful day at the Magic Kingdom Laur's.

I'm glad you had a good day. I can't believe what a young man Eric is! Where is the time going?!

Laur's, I always enjoy your reports. Thank you for writing it. It's good to know that this happy trip is helping you place last year's unhappy one in the past. You certainly are lucky to have two such good looking traveling companions. Not surprised that Eric got right in the swing of things. He was destined to be a Disney baby by genetic inheritance--from both sides of his family!

I'm a little worried by Andy's new found love of Fruit Loops with marshmallows. Afraid that could be the first step on the slippery slope that's lead most of us in the US to being a bit "fluffier" than we were when were kids. It starts with a bowlful of sugar for breakfast . . . Fortunately, this time he had the WDW-walk-all-day exercise plan to balance out the extra calories. Come to think of it, Fruit Loops with marshmallows probably helped him keep up with Eric.

Thanks again for another fun to read report.

Hi Susan

Sadly, it is me who is the sugar junkie! It prompted Andy to buy more cereal because they were way too sweet for him and he had to get something plainer! So, I finished the box all to myself.....

Thanks to everyone for reading and for your lovely comments.

Can't believe how quickly your Eric has grown - really must take my two for a haircut in the barbers next time we go. Shame on Andy for washing his hair before he went to WalMart!! ;) Glad you had a good day. :)

absolutely love the photo of the three of you.

What a lovely first day of your holiday at the Magic Kingdom
