Laundry Question

Sorry to lower the tone but how do people clean their dirty laundry when they stay at a disney resort? We shall be staying at YC next Aug. The options seem to be

(a) use the hotel laundry facilities - but I guess that is going to be very expensive

(b) find a machine somewhere in the hotel (assuming it has one) - but do I want to waste time on my vacation watching my clothes go round?!

(c) use the bathroom - but how do you get clothes dry & do folks mind if I try to use the balcony to dry stuff?

Which of these options do you guys go for, or are there other options? Perhaps other people just don't get dirty like my family?!!

Thanks

:wave2:

The past two trips we have done (b). We either do it after going to the parks at night since we have problems adjusting to the time change or my mom has done it when she's not up to going to the parks. It cost over $20 to do our laundry each time (I forgot exactly how many loads we had. Can you tell that I didn't do it personally? :) ). I believe all of the resorts have a laundry room.

Option (a) is extremely expensive. I believe the cost would have been around $100 to do what we washed ourselves for $20.

I did laundry on our trip in 2003 and plan on doing laundry in December. It didn't take long, and I loved not having to pack as much. The kids and my husband were swimming I think and I just enjoyed the alone time. Watched Disney cartoons while I folded in the room I believe.

I do laundry a lot when I'm in WDW. All resorts have laundry facilities. They are pay machines, and you can buy some detergent/fabric softener out of a machine. I usually do laundry while others are at the pool, or late at night. It is so quiet. I can just sit and read a book, with no interruptions. I have gotten up very early in the morning and done a quick load then also. Laundry is very easy to do in WDW. Oh.....if the laundry room is a bit of a hike from your room, you can put the dirty laundry in a rolling carry-on bag. Then wash, dry, fold and put it all back in the rolling bag and you're good to go!!!

You can use the machines there for guests or they also have bags in the room that they will pick up and clean your laundry for a fee. We looked at the prices once and they were a little higher than normal dry cleaning but we didn't think it was too bad.

Quarters fit perfectly into the 35 mm film canisters. We brought a few canisters of quarters with us, and did our own laundry at POR. We also brought a travel sized Tide (Target sells these), Oxyclean in a ziplock bag, and dryer sheets.

We planned on doing laundry only once during our trip, but it was so hot and humid that we were going through 2 outfits every day. We ended up doing laundry several times.

We did our big loads on an off-day from the parks (part of this day was pre-planned as laundry/relax at resort day). Other times, we threw in a load here and there whenever we had 2+ hours at the resort.

Planning ahead for a laundry time and bringing our own supplies were convenient. The dryers took 2 cycles to dry our clothes, though.....we spent more quarters than anticipated because of that.

Jerseyj, there are change machines and machines for laundry supplies in the laundry room.

The laundry facility at Por is great, right near the quiet pools. Last July I would put the laundry in and then go sit by the pool with the rest of the family. :sunny:

It shouldn't take more than a couple hours to get your laundry done; you can use more than one machine. Be aware that the dryers usually take two cycles, so have plenty of quarters on hand. I always bring my own detergent and dryer sheets in ziploc bags, and also a bag of quarters.

I bought a pop-up laundry bag from the Dollar Store, took dryer sheets and laundry detergent in travel size and a roll of quarters. Each cycle is $2, washer and dryer and are for 1/2 hour. It worked great for me because when Wilma came through, just did laundry, then one time the kids were napping, just did laundry. Ours was located right next to the quite pool. So you could put a load in go to the pool and come back in 1/2 hour. IF you have everything you need then when the time allows you're ready. But they do have a change machine and sell detergent for I think a dollar and small box. I didn't see fabric softner though.

We needed our room key to get into the room, so don't foget to bring it with you!!!

I also did our laundry on a "rest/resort" day which we always plan mid way into our vacation. At Pop the laundry facilities were right by the computer pool, so I threw the laundry into the washers and went swimming for 20 minutes, went back and put it into the dryers and went back to the pool. I had forgot to bring anything to put the dirty laundry in and had to ask a Mousekeeper. She said she wasn't supposed to do it, but gave me a HUGE bag. So don't forget to have a garbage bag or something. I saw a couple people with their laundry in the plastic tote boxes, which I thought was a good idea, then it doesn't get all wrinkled up while being carried back to the room.

i mostly do my laundry when the kids are at the pool-they are older so i can walk away for a few
sometimes when i cant sleep i'll do it in the early morning or late night
i always do it at the hotel
i bring the detergent with me or get it on my grocery stop
beware if you do it at the pool laundry there are people waiting for the washers so dont let it sit there
i think the washers are quick 15-20 minutes
the dryer needs more time
and it is expensive-but i hate going home with dirty laundry

We went in July 05 we packed what I thought was plenty of clothes to not have to do laundry, but it was July and soooo hot that we changed atleast 2x a day. I did laundry at the resort ASMO and for 2 load one white one dark it was $12.00 that was for soap, fabric softner and wash and dry. It is expensive but the laundry room was at the pool and my DH and DD went swimming and I sat by pool and read while it washed I put in dryer and read some more. It really only took about and hour or so. No bad.

I usually do laundry 3-5 times during our 15 day trips. We change clothes at least twice a day. There would be no way I could pack enough to last the entire trip.

It doesn't take that long and like the others said, I do it durning pool breaks, when it's raining or early in the morning when I can't sleep.

I bring my own detergent, Clorox II and fabric softener sheets.

We are DVC members and always stay at a DVC home away from home resort. In the 1 and 2 bedrooms we have our own washer and dryer....love it!

I do my laundry every year when we are there and it's really not that big of a deal. I make sure I pack my own detergent and softener because it's very expensive there. I buy the laundry tablets which are great and I just carry a small bottle of softener in my carryon bag. At the Swan/Dolphin the machines run $1.50, as well as the dryer but I think all Disney machines are that much. They have a machine in there which turns your money into tokens for you to operate the machines.
I swear the dryers don't run very hot because it seems like forever to dry clothes. I don't think management has it turned up that high.
It is a must for me because there are 4 of us, 2 of which are teenage boys, and we usually stay between 13 to 14 days and I am not packing that much. I pack half the amount and do laundry either twice or three times during our stay. I usually go at night after a day in the park. I know...I'm pretty tired but I found the laundry room isn't as crowded at that time.
