Can the pods be cut open?

I'm surprised that the machines are small. Anyone have any comparison? Are they like apartment machines, and not like the newer HE large load machines?

I find them very small.

Compared to my former top-load old-style Kenmore washer (which had an extra large capacity) I would estimate the ones on the Dream?fantasy hold about 1/4 of the load.

Compared to my current front-load HE LG washer (also extra large size) I would estimate the ones on ship hold 1/3 the load. Maybe half if you jam it full, which you are not supposed to do.

The hold less than the front-loads at the resort hotels. Maybe half ? No more than that.

Note that the washer inside is not that much larger than the clear opening. The dryers have a lot more room in them.

As for the pods - yes, they can be cut open, though that would be messy.

For a PP: I just bought some of the Bounty with dawn to try out. WOW the SMELL is VERY strong, even when the package hasn't even been opene and you are FEET away. i am thinking we may use a few of the sheets but then experiment with our own papertowel and choice of dish detergent and see if we can basically make our own; if we can we will let the Bounty ones find a new home.

I have done laundry on the Magic & Dream and used the Tide pods and it wasn't too much detergant and I didn't have to do extra rinse cycles. I didn't find the washers to be tiny.

I never thought to put the detergant on a washcloth. Great idea!

You could also buy some soap nuts. They can be reused a number of times and they aren't liquid so no TSA issues. That's our plan. The "Eco Nuts" brand has a "sample pack" that's just a few dollars and washes up to 10 loads.
