Latest update from DCL on IAN

On the Wish we are definitely coming in Sunday. Our Navigator was updated this afternoon. Saying Castaway Cay on Saturday.

We are actually going to Nassau right now. Captain just said it would be a quick stop, never said what for…gas, food medical?

This our route the last few days…lol
Could also be there is someone who absolutely must get back so they will fly out of Nassau.

They are probably docking the wish on Sunday so they can at least get the fantasy back in port on Saturday and keep that sailing so the schedule gets back on track, especially since the wish wouldn’t have been back in port til Monday if the 9/30 sailing wasn’t canceled.

I would love to hear what the experience is like when you are done. What do they do for menu's on the extra night? Repeat them (seems like that would be hard since they didn't plan for this), or offer something limited? Is there a noticeable decline in food since they are relying on extra food they had on board instead of the usual food stores?

I’m not onboard so I can’t answer your question, but they probably repeat menus if I had to make a guess.

Not sure what we will do about menus. This would actually be our last night of the cruise getting off Friday if it wasn’t for the hurricane. They even gave us the tip envelopes tonight. Not sure if they will give us another set Saturday night.

We are just leaving Nassau right now. Not sure what they picked up since we were watching Aladdin when we were there but heard from crew we were picking up supplies. Didn’t see a barge. At the dock, we thought maybe we were going to fuel up but don’t know if they did or not.

Did have to wait for 4 ships to leave Nassau before we could get in.
Off to dinner Marvel tonight for us.

There is plenty of food on Wish since this would be our last night on regular schedule.

They did not pick up anything. It was a medical drop off. Watched from the web cam and they took someone off with their party and were put in an ambulance. They literally backed in, barely tied up, dropped off the 2 people and then left almost immediately. I do not think it was life threatening as they waited for all other ships to leave and then turned around to back in which took about 1.5 hours. I just hope the person on the gurney is ok.

I'm sure they have a contingency plan. If I was going to guess, it would be a repeat of the first night's menu because many of the ingredients may already on board. They may have to have it on board because the chefs can't wait for some of the food to get loaded on the first day, they need to starting cooking before then.

Right - but if they go two extra days, they will be running off back up food unless they pick up more supplies, which it doesn't sound like they did. I'm sure they have significant extra food for situations like this, but I am curious if the the variety/quality changes or if it is like any other cruise day.

On the Wish now, our server told us last night we would be back to regular rotation menus for the next 2 nights.

I can't speak for the Wish now, but I was on the Dream Hurricane Dorian cruise (3-day cruise ended up being a 6-day cruise). They had plenty of food, and they did just repeat the restaurant menus, so whatever they served in Animators as an example, same menu both nights we were in that restaurant.

From a food standpoint you would never have known the cruise was extended. Never saw a drop-off in quality or quantity.

Yup it looks like we are back in Ennerdale tonight only difference we noticed on the navigator is that tomorrow we are in 1923 than the morning we are off we are in Marvel instead of 1923.

We were also told we don’t have to pay gratuities for the 2 extra days that Disney will cover it. We wanted to make sure our servers get something and weren’t stiffed for those days but guest services said they will get paid by Disney because it isn’t our fault we are still here. Will give extra to make sure this is true.

Captain came on and said the terminals and docks are being checked today for tomorrow. He said another reason we aren’t coming in on Saturday is 7 ships are coming into Port Canaveral tomorrow.

I remember this on the Dream as well. Not sure if Disney specifically said they would cover the extra days gratuities or not but we had guest services add the 3 extra days to my folio regardless. I felt they deserved it and wanted to make sure they got it.

Well, probably primarily that the Fanstasy is scheduled to dock tomorrow. That's on the regular schedule so if possible they don't want to bump it. The DCL terminal can only handle 1 ship per day. I suppose if the other terminals weren't busy the Wish could debark at a non-Disney terminal, but it's not surprising they'll also be in use by other cruiselines.

I wondered about this. Assumed Disney would say the guest doesn't "owe" more tips, but I was afraid that the servers and stateroom hosts would be out the amount they would have gotten on the cancelled cruise. Glad to hear Disney is taking care of them.

Hope everyone on the ship is enjoying the extra time. I'm sure there have been some stressful moments for those dealing with travel issues.

Latest update from PC. It looks like if all goes well, Fantasy will be able to dock tomorrow and Wish on Sunday:

Port Canaveral has conducted initial safety assessments of the Port following the passage of Hurricane Ian. The Port will reopen at 4:00 PM for all vessels 500 gross tons and less. The Port will open for all other traffic at 12 midnight tonight, provided our waterway surveys are satisfactory. The Port’s Rodney Ketcham Park boat ramps and Jetty Park are CLOSED until further notice due to storm damage.

Won't that be a "traffic mess"!

From Port Canaveral website. It seems Fantasy and Wish will be able to arrive this Sat. and Sun. as planned.

Cruise vessels have been cleared for operations at Port Canaveral this weekend, beginning Saturday, Oct. 1. Guests are advised to check with their cruise lines for schedules.

Oh no they just announced Bright Star in the atrium !

That’s medical right?
