Hi, my name is Mal, and I have a problem with late fees.

I can not hold a video rental card because I am incapable of returning movies on time. It is cheaper for me to simply purchase the movie outright than try to rent it and accrue the late fees.

I have a library card I cannot use because I am incapable of returning a library book on time. I was continuously in trouble with my college library. My dad would come to pick me up for breaks and his first stop was always the library to pay my semester's worth of fees.

I have no idea why I have this problem. But I acknowledge it and have handled it by simply not renting/borrowing anything.

Am I the only one?

I once had like 15 library books that were two months overdue. When I went to pay the fine it was about 18 dollars. I payed it but I have not been back ever since I just had more books being overdue. I probably won't ever learn...

I have been avoiding the local video store like the plague b/c we owe so much. I think we rented like 5 movies at once and they were all at least a week late. I am afraid to go back!

At least with Netflix if I keep the movies I only continue to pay my monthly fee I just don't get new movies and no one harasses me. :confused3

This is why we use Netflix also. We stopped renting movies because it was not convenient and we forgot to return them.

Ok, guilty. I'm about to return a bunch of stuff to the library that is so far past due I won't even confess it here. I''m going to put it in the night box tomorrow cause they're closed then call and get the fine amount. I only use netflix too.

Well, I feel a little better that I'm not the only one! ;)

I would just buy your movies/books until you have more time to be ready to get them back on time....There's always a solution!! But at least it's not a serious problem...Good Luck!!!

Guilty here too....When we were moving I had to go to 2 video stores and the library. My biggest fine was $85!!! I paid in cash so DH wouldn't see it!

I feel it is my duty to support the library in any way possible...I pay at least one person's wage a year, I am sure!

LOL! Me too! This is my reasoning - it's like a donation to the library. :teeth: My kids love the summer reading program, so I should support the library, right? :teeth:

Laurie (with lots of overdue library books in my house RIGHT NOW...)

Thank heavens my library lets me renew online and doesn't charge late fees at all on books. DD took a library book to New Mexico with her and was there for 3 months. I had to just keep renewing the silly book.

Now, the video store is another story. My store has a different due date on practically every item and I ALWAYS screw it up (or is it me?...maybe they tell me wrong just to get those late fees!) OR, Dh volunteers to take them back for me, then leaves them in his car for a week! Every time I go in, I owe at least $3. I just expect it nowadays.

Thanks for setting up a support group for us, Mal!

DH took my card for the video store a couple years ago. Not only was I always late I'd just drop in the bin and he would get stuck for the late fees when he went in. I really never meant to be late!

Ditto here...and I need to go to the library to return books!
