Last week in August.....a mistake??

Hi guys!

We may need to change our plans from the end of September and I'm wondering about the end of August. Is the heat totally unbearable? How about the crowds? I know most of the Southern schools will be back in session, but I just don't know. Can anyone give me an idea what to expect this time of year?

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that the last week of August is one of our favorite weeks to go. Yes it is hot and sometimes rainy, but we have rarely had problems with crowds. My DH can't get away until Sept. this year, but we will be there the last week of Aug. next year! Have an excellent trip!

We've been there the 3rd week of August. It is hot but you learn to deal with that by taking afternoon breaks. Also, it's good to keep a park map handy and take note of those air-conditioned theaters and shops when you need to cool off.

We've found the parks to be pretty empty this time of year, so at least you won't have a lot of people to deal with!

We have been there both the 3rd and 4th week of Aug and have found the weather hot but the crowds low. I would take the last week in Aug this year but older son starts college so it is the 3rd week this year. Can't wait.

I find the weather in August and September to be about the same. I have friends that go late August and they say the crowds are low. So doesn't sound too bad.

It looks like it will be the end of August for us this year. I just can't justify taking my DD out of Jr. High only 18 days into the school year. Our last trip was in late September 2000 and they were having a heat wave then....up to 96 with all that humidity. The best part was there were virtually NO CROWDS at all. It was a little spooky when we were the <i>only ones</i> on the New York Street portion of MGM ! I guess the heat at the end of August can't be any worse, eh? Hopefully, the crowds will be low as well.....

My sentiments exactly! We will be there Aug 24 to 30. I figure it cannot be much worse than New Orleans that time of year.

When we were there last Aug it was hotter in NY than it was in DW. When we got back they broke a heat spell of over 90 degree days that they had the week we were in Florida.

Aug 16th - 23rd here we come.

What about the first week in August? We are planning to go to WDW instead of our annnual beach trip! Will we be sorry?

The last week of August is good if you want to go with low crowds. If heat and humidity are a problem for you, August is the hottest month of the year down here in Florida. Come down and enjoy your vacation.

We're there too!! August 19th-30th! Last three trips have been during the winter months (November, December and January)! Although it was nice weather, was never really swimming weather.........looking forward to some heat and water parks!!!

we'll be there 8/16-8/23 too. we are also figuring that the weather in florida at that time can't be much worse than the weather in dc at the same time.

Late August is one of the least crowded times of the year. We're talking Test Track and RnRC being a walk-on in the afternoon at times

This is my first time posting I'll be there the last week in August too (Aug 25-30), for my Honeymoon, but it's also my first time going in August. I like to go during low-crowd times (March is usually my favorite). The kids here in the Mid-West usually go back to school at the end of August as well. I think that the Fairytale package will increase attendance a bit, but as it is right when school starts, not all that terribly!

We are going August 15-22. We go down every year in August and I LOVE it. The lighter crowds are great and the heat isn't that bad (in fact I like the heat) and besides most rides are air conditioned.

Thanks for all the great replies....they helped me make up my mind that August won't be too bad. Like I said previously, we had 95+ in September 2000 and we made it through. August can't be much worse!
