Montreal - for some reason , we didn't take hardly any pictures there....seemed like a poor cousin to Quebec.


We caught the train from Quebec to Montreal.

Hands down...my favourite place we went to in Montreal.

I think we were in San Fran at the start of June...we had Father's Day there. We were in Montreal at the end of June....and New York/Boston for the 4th of July.

Eastern Canada was just spectacular in summer. Niagara was pretty warm and we all pretty much lived in shorts for the entire vacation.

The pictures won't show it...but my mum travelled with us. I have a whole heap of pictures that I won't be posting if my mother is in them. She's from the generation that only just learnt how to send a text on the phone.

It's the Biodome or Biosphere in Montreal. Inside the building is a hands-on science museum.

There was also a very static display about whales in the St Laurence river.

There is the IGNORAMI group! They started their own thread because they felt they were ignored on threads and figured they might as well hang out together.

Hey - it happens. You know the weekly photo competition? I once posted an entry and the moderator ignored my post...it didn't even make it in to the first round of voting. When I finally couldn't take it any more, I asked what I did wrong....turns out nothing. The mod couldn't see my post to begin with. The ignorami didn't stop laughing for 2 days!!

Thanks for sharing I learned something new.

The sphere structure is based on a theory by Buckminster Fuller and on the molecular chemistry theory of Carbon molecules. Carbon molecules like to bond with other carbon (and hydrogen) molecules. Because of their specific molecular chemistry, the natural form for carbon to bond together is in groups of 6 to form a hexagon.

Buckminster Fuller proposed that if you only had an environment with nothing but carbon (and hydrogen), the molecular chemistry would work such that you would eventually end up with a sphere of hexagons. If you look closely at the picture, you can see the hexagonal structure (in tetrahedron shapes).

The chemists did partly support Fuller's theory. There was a laboratory somewhere that did try this closed carbon environment and the electron microscope pictures showed that a semi-circular structure formed.

The View is from the Canadian side...we stayed on the Canadian side.
The first falls are the "US falls" as they are on the US side of the border.
The second 'shoehorse' falls are in Canada
