I think the consensus is buy the one you like best

It's Monday right........
Bugger....4 more days of work to go this week.....
Hey PIO - any suggestions on how to approach asking about the contract situation?
I've seen a few times the Admin just shows up with a new contract to sign for others....usually right when it's due to be signed....so I don't know what to do?
My Project leader suggested about 3 weeks in to see where I 'stood' but I'm not sure how to approach it? The Admin...or the boss boss...who isn't the most approachable person. Having said that the admin is just as abrupt too....
!
We've had a few crossed wires...I'm assuming that the Project leader is the person that you work closest with and knows what you are capable of delivering.
When is your contract due to be finished? Is it the end of August or the end of September?
In any event, I would wait until about 4 - 6 weeks before the end of contract.
Does your Project leader's suggestion to wait 3 weeks take you to close to this point? If this is the case, then wait out the 3 weeks.
Then mention it to the Project leader and see if he/she will raise it with the person that controls the funding. Usually someone in the organisation will need to have the funding for the contract or has the authority to spend and raise a new contract.
I would just say to the Project leader that you are aware that your existing contract is coming to an end and that you would love to stay on; but you would understand if there was no more funding available. In which case, you'd like to know so that you can start looking and start talking to your agency to look out for your next contract if you weren't going to be extended. And thank them for their understanding because you don't really want to cause any issues.
It may be that your Project leader actually has the funding approved under the project they are managing as Capital Expenditure (CapEx) or Project Expenditure (PropEx).
It may be that your contract is managed out of operational expenditure (OpEx). That person responsible for the OpEx may not be the Admin person nor the boss's boss.
If there was no funding, then ask for a reference instead. At the end of your contract, set a time with the Project leader and do a contract close-out....aside from handing over your work, make sure you get some feedback from your Project leader about how they thought you worked...ask for things you did well, things you didn't do so well and things that you could improve on.
I always used to do this because it gave me a good feel for whether that person would give me a good referral if I put them as a reference on my resume. It also gave me the opportunity to work on improving myself and also to pop some of those improvements into the next interview...assuming that the person would ring the previous client. That way, I could set a more positive spin on things first.
Hope this helps.
