Sorry you have to deal with all that. Fran says that I turn into a basket case when my parents are around.

I just... I wish I could leave. I really do. My dad spent an hour lecturing me about how I'm not "looking for a job correctly". Um. I've applied for over 1000 jobs since I lost my job.

It totally irks me to hear about parents who don't approve of the way their kids handle their lives, provided the kid isn't a screw up. I was lucky my parents were OK with the fact that I wanted to major in music instead of math.

I know you've been trying and it's frustrating to hear that your dad doesn't recognize it.

He just doesn't realize that 95% of jobs nowadays DON'T do paper applications and will just tell you to go home and apply online if you go to their location. I've probably only filled out about 10 paper applications. He doesn't get it at all.

I realize that I have no idea how the current job market works, and I looked for a job 20 years ago last. I haven't had a job in a decade. It's too bad your father has no idea how things work. This is the same kind of crud we went through with her father.

It's just the same stuff as every day. At least I got to watch the new Harry Potter movie.
Did you like it?

I'm so sorry you're going through so much
I completely understand how frustrating it is, but it's brutal at the moment....especially in the US. :sad2: I'm completely with you about online. My mum has come to the understanding that's how it's done...so I'm not dealing with that thankfully. Of all things to deal with....for your dad to be telling you off about that? :confused3
Always wishing you get some good news soon :flower3:

I've been through hell with my mum....she is a pit bull and would do 'anything' for me and my education. Always wanting me to have the best etc. And I KNOW my parents did a lot for my brother an I......trust me I know........I get reminded.....
But it was so much what she wanted I've landed somewhere I never saw coming. She's a wonderful mum in so many ways...such that I get berated about being ungrateful when I dare do something she doesn't agree with...

I too wish I could leave but I simply can't afford this real estate market even teaming up with my friends who also desperately want to move out. I need to get a solid permanent position step 1..... :rolleyes1
Talking to the Local Manager tomorrow :worship:

Anyway.....

Best Wishes Dana.....
We just all need to try and think more like this guy....

Not sayin it will happen.......I'm looming in Piglet mode at the moment.....

but...we can try

I read some statistics the other day about the job market in the US. Not only is there high unemployment; but for the people who are unemployed, it takes them an average of 40 weeks to find their next job.

I keep hoping to read good news on the Dis....

Cauliflower Soup

My starting ingredients:

2010June04065.jpg

  • Cauliflower, 1 whole head cut into large florets
  • Onion or leek, sliced
  • Potato, 1 peeled and cut into chunks
  • Curry powder, 1 teaspoon (or cumin power, ½ teaspoon)
  • A piece of parmesan rind, about 1 x 2 inches
  • Stock or water, enough to cover the vegetables
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil, 1 tablespoon

In a large pot, gently fry the onion or leek in the oil.
NOTE: I prefer using leek as it has a milder flavour that doesn’t overpower the cauliflower taste.

2010June04066.jpg

Add the cauliflower florets to the pot and fry for another 2 – 3 minutes.

2010June04067.jpg

Add the spice and fry for another 1 – 2 minutes.
NOTE: If you are using potato, then add the potato at this stage. The potato acts as a natural thickener; but you can omit this ingredient should you choose to.
NOTE: In the picture here, I’ve used curry powder. But I’ve recently taken to substituting with cumin as I think it complements the cauliflower better than the curry powder. I’ve used less cumin in the recipe as it is a stronger spice than curry.

2010June04068.jpg

Add the stock or water until it just covers the vegetable. If you are using the parmesan rind, then add it at this point. The rind will add a light cheesy taste to the stock as it cooks.

2010June04069.jpg

Allow stock to boil and then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 20 – 30 minutes.

Remove the piece of parmesan rind before blending all ingredients together. Serve with shaved parmesan slivers on top. Enjoy!

Can I ask why you use curry or cumin? I'd have never thought of it for adding to Cauliflower?
My tummy is insanely sensitive...and Cauliflower is one thing I can usually have even when it's unhappy. As opposed to curry. Love the flavour...not the result :lmao:

Looking at that page you mentioned before I see this one also use cumin...

Anyway...love the base recipe and simplicity. DEFINITELY Leek ::yes::

Good for you! Hope you get what you want.
It's not going to be permanent...I know that...but I'm just looking to get at least an extension.
As expected the Project Leader told me to go to her but as she wasn't in today I sent her an email to just check in with her about it.....probably remind her :lmao:

The Cauliflower soup can be very bland if you don't add any seasoning to it. The pictures were taken in early June and I experimented with curry powder because I like cauliflower curry and thought it would be nice to add just a touch of base note to the stock.

Becky had posted her cauliflower recipe some time earlier and I took some inspiration from Becky’s cauliflower soup and started to add some parmesan rind to my cooking process; instead of adding the cheese after.

I decided to go with the cumin because that is also another spice that complements cauliflower really well. Becky's recipe is one of many that use cumin. It's also gentler on the stomach and I actually preferred the taste of the light cumin spiced soup I made last night.

Of course both the parmesan rind and cumin are optional...but I caution again that cauliflower soup without any additional base undertones is really really really bland. :goodvibes

Well, if you get that extension, that would probably take you through to Christmas or would they put a 1 year contract on the table? Hope you get it!

Cool...I'll give it a try when I get a spare weekend without getting sick. I do understand the blandness...I always love parsely white sauce with boiled or steamed cauli. They even briefly had a ready made liquid white sauce with lemon in it which was an interesting tang but quite lovely. But I just was curious about the curry.

Thanks :thumbsup2

I have overheard they do month to month with some....but they also I think typically do 3 month. I'm not sure...
They definitely have a lot on contracts. Although as a percentage maybe it's not that high? Just seems that way...

Cheaper to take people on contract than to hire them as permanants these days....
