Had some enchiladas and am not having a very busy day otherwise.

How about you Dana getting out of the house today?

I might go out later, but I don't really feel well for some reason. I just had a phone interview with a hotel downtown. I should hear back from them in a couple days.

Yay for enchiladas! I might make tacos for dinner tonight.

Visiting the Hershey Factory might be nice. I like their chocolate bar with almonds the most. Apart from that, in my opinion European chocolate is far superior to anything that is made and sold in America. I have tasted chocolates from both Europe and the United States. And my taste buds sing the most joy from what Europe has to offer. In good consciousness, I could never fairly compare Hershey's to the edible chocolate delights that the Sacher Hotel has to offer. Because the latter would beat to a pulp the former. And do so in taste, quality, purity, and tradition. The Sacher Torte for example is famous. And I so very much recommend it to everyone to sample at least once. Because if one does not, then one will not know what they are missing, and they would be the poorer for not experiencing such a truly fine dessert.
I beg to differ with what a pp stated regarding the hotels class. For the Sacher Hotel is not snobbish, nor elitist. Either one is interested in staying there, and or dining, or not. My father made a very good income. But did not agree with the hotel rates. But then, he was also a child in WW2, in Austria. Allot has to do with that. He would visit, dine and have dessert at the Sacher Hotel.
He ordered these tortes over the years. That is how I was fortunate enough so as to savor the flavor and experience the hotels famous dessert. Matter of fact, it is time for me to place an order. For it has been such a long time, since being fortunate enough to have this dessert before me. My father cannot order any longer, the hard way. For he died almost two years ago. His parents, and other relatives that are no longer, are buried in Austria. I would love to visit there. I only wished that I was fluent in the language. Of course my father was. My old Aunt that lives there, is not fluent in English. Maybe we can teach each other our languages? That would be interesting.

Is there a bug going around the LTP thread?

What job at the hotel?

Hmmm I seem to sense a contradiction.

I think it's just the weather here, since it keeps going up and down and up and down.

Housekeeper. She asked if I was interested in turndown, since that's available, too. I said "I'll take whatever you guys have, to be honest." As long as I have the first weekend of June off, I'm happy :)

What makes good Chocolate.

Chocolate is made with 3 parts. Fat, Cocoa and Sugar. Fat was easy to get the other two things were not.

Spain goes over to the Americas and finds something almost as good as gold, cacao. Then it is figured out you can add fat and sugar to it and it's even better. Spain eventually starts growing it in Africa. Now that it is more available it is sold at great price to the rest of Europe. It is only a delicacy for the super rich.

One problem. Sugar. Sure we have 5 pounds in our cupboards. But Sugar isn't from where we live. In fact sugar changed the world a few hundred years ago. France controlled sugar and built their country around this expensive product. England got into the sugar game too. So did the Dutch, Belgians and Germans. They all used colonies around the equator to grow this sweetly imporant commodity and cocoa.

So now there is a lot of sugar and a lot of cocoa. Finally after 200 years of chocolate being rare it becomes a cheap product.

And then came along the industrial revolution. Easier to get the cocoa butter out of the seeds. Easier to refine sugar. Easier to transport goods.

Something that once cost a lot, is now the same product for pennies, available to anyone.

Don't be fooled into thinking certain countries have better chocolates. You are living in the past.

My birthday! :yay:

I was supposed to go to DLR, but with the job situation, I've rescheduled that for next year's birthday. Instead, my friend Molly is coming to town and we're going to go to a museum and the zoo and maybe a concert and hang out and have fun :)

No, there is no contradiction amongst my words. I am sorry that some people feel that they must always contradict what others have to say. Some people do that perhaps because they enjoy doing so. Regardless, I know what I like, and what I don't like. Many people do not. Which is truly a pity. Why some people in this world have to attempt an argument or disagreement otherwise for really no good nor valid reason is beyond me. And quite frankly I do not appreciate sarcastic tones.
Either one is interested in learning about something new, or not. Trying something different or not.

I love fine chocolate. I do not find such made in this country. I am basing my statement upon years of chocolate tasting experience. So there fore, totally love the chocolate that European chocolatiers make. I like some of what is made in the United States. However even then, I do not love it. Not until the same fine quality chocolates are made here, like they are in Europe. The only exception if anything is a company that is or was, not sure if they are still in business, in Marin County. They made truly fine Belgian Chocolates. Now those I loved. I will have to see if they are still in business.
And no my good fellow, I am not living in the past. Perhaps some people in our modern world need to have a more open and accepting mind to what makes an individual just that.

Now I must bid thee a fare adieu, for I have the rest of my day to take care of.
Like a favorite talk show host of mine will say, we can agree to disagree.

I hope that people will look at the website link for the Sacher Hotel. See how beautiful, and historic the hotels are. If I had my druthers I would be savoring a fine cup of Sacher hot cocoa right now, served with a wonderful slice of their signature torte. How I cannot wait to do so, for the time is long past due for me.

Guten Tag

That will be a great, a day full of fun stuff!

This is precisely the problem with people's perception on chocolates. Belgian Chocolate made in Marin county. What is Belgian about it? They are just holding onto the relic cache about choclate made in Belgium for the royalty there, hundreds of years ago.

Belgium went to Africa and and turned it's territory there into plantations. To grow cocoa. Belgium then was able to produce a commodity. 'A commodity is a good for which there is demand, but which is supplied without qualitative differentiation across a market."

Other commodities, oil, rubber, coffee, corn, soybeans, coal, iron, salt, sugar.... Nothing special about any of these things.

But when the are rare they are highly valued. And if production is limited they become prized. Like Cocoa a long time ago, but not today.

So you take the same commodity, process it the same, and it comes out the same.

I have had one chocolate from another country not sure which one but they are called the Ice cubes. I love those things the chocolate is different. I use to watch people try it and have a different reaction. But that is the only one I have ever tried.

I have seen those ice cubes too. Red and silver or gold package. For some reason I think I saw them sold on the check out counter somewhere as individuals.
