Last performance of OUAD parade cancelled by the striking CM's

That makes me so sad :sad1:

Whilst I understand there may be a need to strike, to ruin the magic for innocent children just isn't fair. :sad1::sad1:

If it wasn't for the families paying to get into the parks then they wouldn't have a job at all, so it seems very unfair for them to stab them in the back by ruining holidays for hundreds of people.

:confused3

oh my, I've only known the daily main parade to be have been cancelled due to weather before .

Are there likely to be more disruptions?

It's got worse as the day went on. I'd been covering it over on that other thread started by Chmurf and after the bit of the lunchtime news followed by the Libé article I feared that this might happen.

Tomorrow they will continue regardless of the press event unless the management are going to reopen talks and negociations and come up with something :sad2:

It's ridiculous that they can strike in the parks. Why should they be allowed to ruin people's holidays? A trip to Disney isn't cheap and for many it's a once in a lifetime holiday.

I can understand the staff feeling aggrieved but as per usual it's the general public who suffer.

I've been reading some of the stuff they've been up to (blocking the entrances to rides, blocking the parade route, cheering when the show cancellation was announced etc...) and I don't think anyone will have any sympathy for them whatsoever.

Their beef is with management, not guests. So why stop people going on rides?

because whether we like it or not, its the quickest way to get the attention of the guests, media and management, and it will pretty much guarantee that the management will get round the table for talks with the union to resolve the issues.

thats true elaine..... as u say, the best way to get what u want by causing the most disruption, as the 'powers that be' will work quicker to solve it if its causing a big problem.....

i feel sorry for my friends who got there wednesday and the leave late tomorro so this strike will probably have disrupted half their holiday - its their 1st time so cant see them wanting to rsh back.... how many other ppl are in a similar situation???

of course i feel for the staff too, but surely there must have been a better way......:confused3

IT is such a difficult thing - yes it is devastating for the people who are there whilst the strike is on, yes it may be a holiday of a lifetime for them etc. etc. but I think what we have to remember is that this is the CM's livelihood and if they feel the standards and pay is not representative of the work they do surely that IS more important than someone's holiday?! I don't know the whole story, don't know what the real issues are over the strikes and I can guarantee that the media will not cover their true reasons fairly. I don't agree with striking, I think in general it gets you nowhere and makes others suffer, BUT sometimes, when all else fails it is a sure fire way of getting noticed, although it is often for the wrong reasons, and can just turn people against you!

I hope they get their voices heard, and they get a fair deal - if it is what they deserve!

I eat my words about the strike not happening, a lot of the bosses didn't know about this even! But that's ridiculous not sure which sector this bunch are from. I say bunch as that's a tiny handful of disgruntled cast members spoiling it for everyone else!

I also know how strict disney are about working conditions, they should count themselves lucky they are way more privileged in terms of working conditions than some of the people who work onsite for non-disney companies (I have been one myself) and Disney cast members benefits for every aspect of your life from housing to food shopping to getting your haircut are really good, I have never had anything like this in the UK! basic wage here could be a hell of a lot worse you are MADE to take breaks and you never work more than you should with ample rest between shifts.

Personally I hope they get back off their soapboxes or maybe they should find work elsewhere... Oh wait no that's right they won't because nowhere else will give them the things Disney does.....

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

What are they complaining about then? If their deals are so good? However, again, I guess what you perceive as good they may not, or their conditions could be changing etc. as circumstances are all different!

I can't comment really - as I do not know the whole story, and to form any real judgement on this I would need to know both sides of the story (from both groups!)

The news stories say pay, I don't know anymore than that, not involved don't intend to be! I'll be back in work tomorrow keeping people happy as usual like hundreds of cast members have done for me in the past :goodvibes

Hmmm - I believe NOTHING the newspapers say about issues like this. Recent teachers strikes over here were made out to be totally about pensions, when in reality they were also about huge issues that could seriously affect education standards for students (and now are)- but that didn't get reported and therefore got very little public support!! But, lets hope the issues at DLP are resolved very quickly, regardless of who is at fault etc. just so people can start enjoying their holidays again!

It wasn't all bad, Disney magic prevailed and what hasn't been reported on is that all the characters were sent into the park. They decided to cancel the stars n cars and delay the OUAD parade then decided to cancel that 10 mins beforehand and sent the characters in instead. Working CM's were still very upbeat about it all.

The parade may have stopped but instead the guests got something unique you don't see everyday a massive meet and greet ... A little strike can't stop the magic.

Have spoken to a few people tonight and whilst the reports coming in are doom and gloom and strikers ruining everything... It really isn't quite As major a catastrophe as is being heralded.

I thought it was strange seeing as I've been in the area all day and heard and seen nothing!

Thats the first thing that crossed my mind, those poor children. My dd would be heartbroken and me very annoyed because of her being upset.

I honestly believe they should be grateful they even have a job in the current climate.

i do think thats a bit harsh!!!!!! in this current climate we are all trying to do and get the best we can, and of course workers are trying to protect themselves and their jobs!!!!!

yes, it has been on the news etc - but orion has clearly said that altho things have been cancelled, the magic was still there - imagine all those characters milling about???? totally magical!!!!

also - it (so far) has only been one day, and that is only a portion of a holiday.....

i hope that some agreement has been come to, but as already been proved, its not been too disruptive apart from the parades....

Sorry if you think its harsh but its my opinion and I don't expect everyone to agree with me we all have our own opinions.

Characters walking around does not even begin to compare to the OUAD parade not for us anyway.

fair enuf its ur opinion, but sayin they shud b lucky they got a job!!!!!!!!! the cms work very hard in their jobs, and its not an easy thing at all..... u make it sound like they get paid for having fun and to b grateful!!

they deserve to have a fair deal.....

end of...

the whys and wherefores of strike action, no matter who/where it may be, can get emotive, as we will all have different viewpoints.

Lets keep it friendly and respect each other's opinions :).

but sayin they shud b lucky they got a job!!!!!!!!!

yes they are lucky, and it seems they already got better deals than the vast majority of french workers, and that, even before their current demands.

the cms work very hard in their jobs,
in WDW and DL they do ... but in DLRP you sometimes wonder ...
of course I wouldn't want to downplay the involvement and the enthousiasm of some CMs ... but I doubt those who work very hard in their jobs are the same who blocked and went on strike.

and its not an easy thing at all.....
you're right, it's not easy waiting for the month's paycheck, flirting with girls, cursing and talking trash when kids are near, being rude and unhelpful to guests, and being totally oblivious to the rules and regulations inside the parks. Of course some CMs actually do their job as they are supposed to ... the only problem being that there are fewer and fewer of them, and it begins to show dramatically

u make it sound like they get paid for having fun and to b grateful!!
You may want to consider the way some CMs are hired, some based on incentives from the state. Some really go through a "casting", some are just recruited because it's cheap to hire them, and this also begins to show.

they deserve to have a fair deal.....
once again, their deal is sometimes way better than the next worker's

Sorry for multi-quoting you, I'm not snapping at you, but I sure hope that next time you hit the park you won't become too much aware about how some CMs make you feel like you're actually disturbing them when they should be napping.
Maybe it's because I've been so many times to DLRP and because I just came back from WDW and saw what "real" magic and what real service is about, but I'd just say that if you ask for a raise, you should at least prove that you deserve it and that you at least do the job you're paid for.
It's difficult to ask for a raise when you don't even perform for half the pay you receive

sorry for the "good" CMs, but the lazy, freeloading, obnoxious and rude part of the DLRP cast is really beginning to cast a shadow on all of you, and as far as I have read, you are pretty much aware of that.
