Like most 2020-2021 has been terrible and we were supposed to do DCL Alaska this summer (we typically do parks every other year) and the last few days I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a last minute August 27-31 trip with dh and twin dd 9. We typically stay on the monorail at poly or gf. We love the restaurants and being able to see HE every night from the resort we are rope droppers and never close a park. This time the contemporary has a great deal although I love the Poly. Is it worth it to stay on the monorail right now? Or should we branch out and try BWI or Yacht club? We would be doing 1 day at each MK, HS, and Epcot. Or are we crazy to even consider going now? TIA!

CR is undergoing a full refurb. For that reason alone, I would avoid it. I think this is the perfect time to try something different. YC would give you close access to Epcot and HS plus SAB. BWI puts you closer to HS but also is within walking distance to Epcot. If the buskers were entertaining on the boardwalk, it might be a close call but the pool is nothing to write home about (except for the slide, it's arguably the best on property). I'd choose YC over BWI but both are good choices.

Personally, I wouldn't stay on the monorail until the MK-EP monorail is operational again. Plus the Poly station isn't even open right now. We love the EP resort area - there is a ton to do within walking distance of the resorts - two parks, lots of restaurants, great pools, etc. We like the BWI pool better, but we think YC is the better overall resort. Since you are visiting both EP and DHS, YC or BWI will be more convenient than CR or Poly.

If you have the time, I would call and see what is available for your exact dates first

Thanks! I guess I didn’t realize the poly was totally closed!

Poly IS open (currently DVC side only, starting July 19 the resort side opens). But the monorail station is closed. You can walk to the TTC if you want the monorail though.

We haven't stayed at YC, but we have stayed at BC and BW. We are a family of five.

Here are my thoughts: We loved the pool area of the BC (which YC shares}. We love getting a kids meal at Hurricane Hanna's and using the bucket and shovel at Stormalong Bay. We love the close access to Epcot and HS...but each time we have stayed there the room view wasn't the best. The first time we stayed there we were on the first floor and our patio was completely blocked by some really tall bushes. It was definitely secluded, but it felt like you were sitting inside a cave. The second time we stayed there, they supposedly upgraded us to a water view. We laughed because the only way you could see any water was to lean way to your right and you could get a slight view of the corner of the pool. Otherwise our view was of the air conditioning unit on top of the roof below us. :-(

We love the BW because it has the same easy access to Epcot and HS. I can't comment on the pool area as it was January when we stayed there and way too cold to get in the pool. I will say we loved our room. I don't know if it is true or not, but it definitely felt like the largest room we have stayed in as a family of five. There were two queen beds and a pull-out bed. I also liked walking down to the Belle Vue Lounge in the morning and getting juice and muffins. I don't think it is open right now though due to Covid.

That being said, I would choose the YC. Your daughters will love the pool area.

Happy Planning! Sometimes the last minute trips are the best! :-)

Thank you so very much I really needed that last sentence. Usually I plan for a year but I think we need to go to our happy place even if it is different from what we are used to. I’m really leaning towards BW but a little nervous as we are known to hit up a quick service for a late evening snack not sure what people do or I can just pack snacks

Poly and the Grand is my fave. I branched out and tried AKL, Saratoga , YachtClub and a few others. At the end of every stay , I missed being by the seven seas lagoon and magic kingdom. Even though Epcot is the park we most visit, it didn’t feel like I was staying at Disneyworld when not staying by magic kingdom. I’d still stay there, monorail or not.

All good choices! I love being on the lagoon, we just stayed at the GF for the first time in June, normally we're Poly people. I will say CR construction is pretty significant-but the proximity to MK is really great. Beach Club is our favorite so I'd go with BC/YC, Stormalong Bay is so much fun for kids and the walkability to the two parks is so hard to beat, especially on a short trip.

There is the Pizza Window on the Boardwalk. They only serve pizza, but I think it stays open until 10:00. This might be an option for an after parks snack!
