I have to be in Florida on business next month and I got a big urge to see FOTLK before they move the show. Since my employer is covering my airfare anyway - I decided to check into driving over to WDW for a day. Next thing I knew, dh was "in" for a long weekend.

I logged on the member site early yesterday morning and waitlisted a studio at our home resort. It came through this morning :cool1:, so we're off to the World Dec. 12-15!!!

The trip is totally unplanned. I'm flying dh down on airline points, so our out-of-pocket costs will be just tickets and food. We were going to be eating anyway.....so basically just tickets. :lmao:

I'm not sure whether to even attempt to get dining reservations or to just "wing it". We tend to like the restaurants at the resorts best anyway.

I haven't even looked much at the FP+ process or whatever that is called - so I'm hoping there are still regular FPs available during this time.

Are we crazy??? :rotfl:

Not crazy at all. We took a last minute trip one time with no time to spare. DH called me at lunch on a Friday and said he would be off until Tuesday so to call DVC and get a villa. We drove from Ohio for a quick 3 day weekend! Of course, we were much younger then!

Last minute trips can be the most fun. Mostly because the trip becomes more of a go with the flow and not every step pre-planned. As for last minute, I am talking about being at DTD for the day, deciding we wanted to stay the night, called the resort directly (back before MS was opened on Sundays), and checked in within 15 minutes.

I totally understand the whole under a month panic that sets it for those of us super planners. Anything less than 6 months and I get nervous.

However, we are doing the same as you this year. Opportunity came up to take a last minute weekend trip, same weekend as you, and I took it. Just by keeping an eye on the Dec cancel thread and checking the Disney site constantly, I was able to score us reservations for everything we wanted, and it only took me a few days to get them last week. If you want to eat somewhere, I'd just keep checking the site.

What I did was take my iPad to work with a tab open for each restaurant I was trying for. Then every break I had, I would just hit the search button on each tab, took less than a minute to do. I was able to catch the cancellations easily this way without too much work, and was surprised how fast I was able to find what I needed.

As far as fp+, if your resort is testing, you can book those now, or you can use the old system or do some combination of both. I wouldn't worry too much about it. The parks won't be empty that weekend, but they won't be packed either, touring plans is forecasting least crowded days and parks at about 3 of 10, worst parks at 6 of 10. I'd just try to plan my days to coincide with the least crowded park and go from there.

hope you have good time. What am I saying of course you will you'll be at Disney, enjoy.

What's crazy about fitting in a last minute fun trip to Disney! Have fun! I'd try to make a couple ADR's!

Thanks everyone!

We are SO excited!! This isthe first time I've borrowed points though - we already have a big trip planned in March over Spring Break. At our age, I don't see an add-on happening so I'll be in a quandry next year. ;)

nightowll - thanks for iPad idea. I'm going to do exactly the same thing....I'm swamped with work right now, but I can squeeze in enough time for that!

Last jan we flew into NOLA. It was cold and wet so my DW said let's call MS and sure enough even though it was marathon weekend ee found a studio @ OKW. Rented a car and drove to WDW. That was fun.

i think it's fantastic!
maybe make one (or two) dining reservations, bu i would "wing" most of it....you might find yourselves loving someplace you never tried before.

have a great time :thumbsup2

UPDATE!! I was able to get a Candlelight Processional dinner package (if you consider 3pm dinner ;)) for one night and ADRs for two other favorite restaurants. We'll wing the other meals - which is fine.

SO EXCITED!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Not crazy at all! It already sounds like it's going to be awesome! Have a great trip!

Jealous. :goodvibes

Love last minute trips. Spontaneity gives me great joy.

Have a wonderful time.

That's awesome!!! I don't think you're crazy at all! I just did the same thing! Saw a garden/pool studio at BWV open up 12/20-12/24 so I snagged it up!!! Have fun!!!

I'm glad you got it all worked out. It's always such a relief once you get all your ADRs booked, especially for favorite restaurants.

Me too! Just snagged BLT for 12/14-12/17! Can't wait to watch the holiday fireworks from TOTWL!
