Last Chance for a Summer Vacation Experience- August 2016 Weight Loss and Lifestyle Change Challenge

I lost 1.5 lbs out out 6 so I am at 25%. Crazy weekend, my knee started hurting on my long run so I had to call DH to come get me. I am taking the next week off to focus on strength training and pilates. I am praying this doesn't affect Dumbo Double Dare. Also we ended up adopting a dog. It wasn't in the plans but we fell in love with him when we saw him.

What are you doing to control your diet?

Do you count points or calories?

What is the one thing you can change that would make your diet better this week?

While Weight Watchers was a great program to spring board the initial weight loss, I found long term that counting "points" wasn't practical. Nutrition is calculated in calories, so trying to do the math and figure it out sans Weight Watchers was tough. But My Fitness Pal is wonderful and to this day I count calories. And I watched them go over last night as I ate half a pizza and watched Iron Man 2 last night. Some days you just need a splurge :P

So - I'm going to focus on eating within my calories this week and be more active outside since the heat has finally broke. I can run! I can Poke-hunt! I have three weeks until Dumbo Double Dare and really just need to get a good, long run in before the event.

In regards to Be Our Guest -- sit in the room with the music box because it is AMAZING. It's our tradition to sit there for lunch and enjoy the ambiance. There's gorgeous tapestries on the wall and the theme music are all music box style songs from Beauty and the Beast. Love it! Love it! Love it!

We usually get the pork kids meal and a strawberry cupcake. Fills us right up and we're good to go until dinner. Portion sizes at WDW are HUUUUUUUGE, so kids meals are the way to go!

Where on the knee is it hurting - inside or outside? :( I really hope this doesn't affect DDD either! You have 3 weeks to rest and relax that leg.... so it should hopefully be enough time. Maybe get a brace to help?

Today at work I was told that my face looks smaller. I was so excited. I ate horribly this weekend so I wasn't expected it. It makes me feel good when others are starting to notice the difference.

Check in - 0%
This is mainly due to wine and beer consumed this weekend. I can honestly say I've only been above my calorie range one day this month so I'm still happy about that.

I count calories on myfitnesspal. One thing I can change to make my diet better this week is bring my lunch to work everyday instead of eating out. I only work 4 days this week so this should be very doable.

I use MFP to count calories. I also put a limit on my daily carbohydrates and try to pick and choose my carbohydrates wisely - selecting whole fruits and dairy over grains.

The scale has not been kind to me this month. I don't know if it's because I've started these body weight exercises (that's the one thing that has changed) or if it's something else, but the scale does not lie - I'm up a couple pounds instead of down. It's so frustrating.

This week, I am going to try to eat more vegetables. They require more prep than fruit and so I tend to choose fruit over vegetables most times. I have broccoli, carrots and sweet potatoes in the fridge this week. All are pretty easy to portion and serve, so I'm going to try to replace a fruit snack with a vegetable snack each day.

Hey friends....I'm back from vacation and from helping DD move into her school year apartment. Other than a hour last Saturday to drop off vacation bags and grab some apartment stuff that was stored here, I haven't been home for 10 days and I am feeling SO overwhelmed! Laundry piled sky-high, nothing much in the fridge (although the garden is producing like mad!), I'm hot and dirty and desperately in need of a shower, and I still need to prep for tomorrow's WW meeting. All that being said, I'm glad to take a minute to say hello to you all, but please forgive me for not taking the time to catch up on the previous 8 pages! I'll hop in here fresh tomorrow with the QOTD and take it from there!

Eating was alternately SPOT ON and HORRENDOUS over the past 10 days. I'm sure I gained, but my "plan" was to gain 3 pounds or less and have it gone by August 19. I didn't actually do a "post vacation" weigh-in because I wasn't really home, but we shall see what Friday's weigh-in looks like! Fingers crossed!

See you in the morning!................P

I don't count calories or points, for me I find that too overwhelming. Instead I try to eat smaller portions and pay attention to how much a serving size is. Like last night I got a candy bar that I normally would have eaten the whole thing but I looked at the serving size this time and found out it was 3 servings! So I broke it into 3rds and shared it with my daughters. I think that type of thinking will stick with me more than counting calories.

This week I think I am going to add more fresh fruits and veggies to make my diet better.

My knee was hurting on the inside near the top, DH had the same problem a little while back and I think I might have changed my form because of my leg hurting. I might try his brace after this week of rest. Fingers crossed it was just a one time thing!

Calories on MFP. I had break week last week and ate at maintenance level calories. I will cut back little this week

I find calories are like money budgeting! Some people don't need to budget and are ok, they are fairly good in guessing what the right spending or portions are. Others are very active or have great incomes so don't need to. Some do well with loose budget and general awareness. Some do it short term. Others like numbers and enjoy keeping on top of things - it makes a vacation to WDW possible or a treat without pressure on family finance or the jeans don't fit situations.

The challenge is to figure where you fit and what works for you. I don't plan to stop counting calories. Works for me. And my jeans fit without pressure.

Good Tuesday morning

We have reached the dog days of summer. It is supposed to be 92 on Friday
(NOT what I wanted for ds's wedding)

When you are at the Magic Kingdom there are many ways to cool off
but the best one I can think of is leave the park and take a boat ride.

Magic Kingdom has boats to Fort Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian and Polynesian

Here is view from the boat coming from Wilderness Lodge

When we were there in October we took a boat to Polynesian and had lunch in the air conditioning.

How do you stay cool in the summer?

My problem is that we have no air conditioning in this old house we have.
We do have a lot of fans and usually get a sea breeze since we are less than 2 miles from the beach.

Here is an article that I came across this morning about this

Have a happy and healthy day.

How do you stay cool in the summer?

It's been so miserably hot outside for several weeks here in KC! But over the weekend it mercifully broke a little bit.

I have to say that my office job allows me to beat the heat in the summer. It's frigid in this office. I'm wearing a jacket right now. And then I hide inside for the rest of the time LOL. I hate being hot and avoid working out outside if I possibly can because it just doesn't go well. My workouts suffer and then I'm hard on myself for not doing as well as I would have liked, etc. Although I will say that the gym is still super hot. But there are giant fans so I will get somewhat of a breeze. More than if I was running outside.

I hope the brace works for you! 2.5 weeks until the big run - you got this. you will recover!

Semi-related. I think we may have similar injury spots. I had the KT Tape folks do a taping in Chicago so I could see where it should go - here's where my results were.

How do you stay cool in the summer?

I don't. There's no amount of clothing that I can remove to where I am comfortable. :(

We just drink a lot of water and plan to be out of the house as much as possible. Indoor shopping malls are good for that - but you have to resist temptation to not buy things!

I live outside of Sacramento, CA where it gets super hot in the summertime so living without AC is simply not an option. We run the AC all summer long and also have ceiling fans in the living room and bedrooms. I do all my weeknight runs on the treadmill cause its just too hot in the afternoon to run outside.

I tend to stay in the house more. We have 2 window air conditioners that keep the house cool. Luckily in the past we only get a few days a year in the 90's with high humidity. This year I think we have had 11. I am sure we are getting close to a record. Last summer we only had 1 day. I do like to eat watermelon and strawberries when it is hot. I also like to eat ice. I will drink more ice water too.

As for Disney my favorite place to cool off at MK is to watch the Hall of Presidents. I love that show. I got away with this on our first 2 trips. The last 2 my husband got his way. Leave in the middle of the day and go swimming at the resort.

My office is always cold too. I always have a jacket with me and I have a little heater that I use too. If I am still cold after that i change the temp on the thermostat. This has back fired many times. It is a very old building and for some odd reason if you change the temp the air/heat breaks and we end up with 90 degree.

How do you stay cool in the summer?
Workout wise, this is when being an early riser comes in handy. Even if it's going to be 90+ degrees, it's generally tolerable in the early morning. So, if I want to walk outside, I can do it. If I can't walk outside in the early morning or late evening (though the mosquitos in the evening are also an issue), I walk inside.

Otherwise, we have lots of a/c - in the house, in the cars, etc and an annual pass to the community pool. There's nothing like a dip in the pool on a hot, hot day!
