Laptop computer problem?

We bought a laptop from a friend of ours and we are trying to restore it. Now it is asking us for a Microsoft product I.D. #. What do we do now? Thank you all who can help us out.

Find the original Microsoft CD and case/sleeve that came with the machine. It will have a rather long serial number that you need to enter in the boxes on the screen.

Did you purchase the license to use the Microsoft software as well as the computer?

You need the CD case with the certificate of ownership and the serial # to reinstall the software.

If you don't have this, you need to either ask for it from the friend who sold you the machine, or you need to purchase the software.
