Lanyard Warning!

I bought an official Hufflepuff Lanyard for the trip we did last week. I did not fully trust the lockers to keep important things like my license and credit card secure (at one point we unlocked an "empty" locker to find someone else's stuff in there and another time a TM just said which locker is yours and opened it without asking anything). So I thought I was being responsible by keeping my park tickets, license and credit card around my neck.

Well, after riding the Mummy I noticed the plastic part of the Lanyard was gone. I was pretty sure it flew off during the ride, but who knew. My flight home was the next day. This was an hour before park closing. Panic time. An hour after close, the TMs walk the tracks of the rides and bring to lost and found what they find. Sure enough, the plastic part had flown off during riding the Mummy! Not the Hulk, or Rockit...the Mummy!

The little metal ring had broken off.

So, be careful with what you put in a lanyard and think about making a copy of your license and credit card when you go. I will do that next time!

Wow you got lucky that your stuff was found! I don't like putting anything that is difficult to replace in the lockers. I have no choice when I have my larger camera with me but I like to keep our money, ids and credit cards spread out among my pants pockets just in case. We tuck our lanyards into our shirts on the Mummy and similar rides.

We stuff our lanyards down our tops on rides that go fast or drop.

Never lost anything yet.

Glad you got yours back and glad it didn't hit anyone on the ride.

Just an FYI, the locker that you opened with someone else's stuff most definitely belonged to someone who didn't know how to operate the lockers. They most likely just found an empty locker than happened to be unlocked, stuck their stuff in there, and went on the ride. I've also seen people just leave their stuff on top of the lockers... some people leave their brains outside the park entrance!

That's good to know. I thought maybe something faulty was going on with them!

Yep, stick it down your shirt. After the last EP scan down the shirt it goes.

Oh, I'm glad you got your stuff!

My dh lost his phone on a small coaster at a local park--he thought it was too tame to be an issue, but phone in pocket was pretty easy! Two pre-teen boys found it and then caught up to US and it wasn't broken!

But will certainly keep that in mind and tuck them in.

Also, I use the Witz brand "sea it safe" waterproof, hard plastic, lanyard "pouches".

DH lost his and DS's Disneyland APs when part of it was trapped under the restraint on CA Screamin' and the other part pulled. They never found the pouch, and we got to pay to have the APs replaced. (no pixie dust for us, just plain old, pure, by the book "lost" AP replacement rules) Since then we are VERY careful, and then I got the Witz thing and I haven't had a problem at all. I put it right on my WDW or Ravenclaw lanyards and I'm good to go!

It is a tough call...which is safer, lockers or pockets! With the large camera though, there is no choice!

Always nice when faith in humanity is restored! Amazing the phone did not crack. At the lost and found was a man who says he lost his phone on the Rockit Ride. I would never keep anything in my pocket on that ride!!

Yep.

Great tip! I found a clear Witz case on Amazon for $8 and bought it!

Great tip, I learned to tuck my lanyard in my shirt when my AP flew up and hit another passenger in the face on The Mummy ride....oops, I felt so bad.

My husband had the same thing happen on the Mummy ride- we got lucky and he caught it mid ride. Saw it was missing right at the end where the mummy breaks the glass before the last plunge- was laying between us- was able to grab it before the ride took off again. Now we tuck them in our shirts.

I just never would have thought something like that could happen. I would have felt so bad! Even the Magi couldn't save them. :)

That is great it was still in the vehicle and you were able to grab it! Down the shirt it goes from now on!

There is also a safety factor. My son rode Gringott's and his lanyard somehow got caught in the restraint. In order to keep from being choked during the ride, he had to yank the lanyard out, which broke one of the small metal rings that attached the metal clip to the large metal ring on the neck strap . Of course, this all happened when we did single-rider, and I wasn't riding in the same car. He didn't lose the plastic pouch, but he did just hook it back onto the metal clip and didn't tell me what happened. When I noticed the plastic pouch wasn't hanging correctly, I asked him about it. I was really upset because he could have choked himself and fussed at him (maybe too hard) for not being more careful/asking a cast member for help/telling me what happened. He did tuck his lanyard into his shirt or jacket every time after that.

Poor kiddo! I so would have panicked and done the same thing. Your story makes me wonder if that little metal ring is weak by design. In case it gets caught, it just rips before hurting someone.

This thread is freaking me out! Every time we go on Mummy I check mine and DDs lanyards to be sure they are tucked in - now I'll be triple checking. I guess I've watched too many Final Destination movies, lol

I quit stuffing my bra a few years ago.:duck:I loop the lanyard (fabric flexible zippered one from office depot) thru belt loop of shorts & stick in my pocket.
