How's that?

Actually, I was perfectly calm and controlled for the whole time he was having the seizures and while we were at the hospital.

I fell apart on DH about 3 days AFTER we were home.
:grouphug: :grouphug:

I am like that too. I am great during the crisis. It's after that can get pretty ugly.
me too. The only time I ever fell apart during any crisis is when I lost my best friend in a car accident.

Any other time...it's a day or two later.

We are switching him, slowly, to Topamax. The only common side effect of long term Topamax use is loss of appetite. I have to give him both Topamax and Dilantin for a couple of months. Slowly increasing the Topamax dose and decreasing the Dilantin. These are the kind of drugs that have to "build up" in the system to be effective.

I was on high doses of Topamax and while I would like to go back on it (it was for nerve damage and localized seizures) as I am really struggling without it, Topamax has weird side effects for many people.

Loss of appetite, makes drinks taste metallic, makes you stupid, and loss of regulation of body temperature. The last two can be alarming and one may not realize that they are happening.

I lost 40 lbs which was great, but the stupid thing was bad, and the lack of temperature regulation worse. I didn't know about it and when in Florida became a different person. (A stupid, confused, overheated person) There is a risk of heat stroke so please be careful...

But again, the plusses often outweigh the negatives. If I could only find something which worked for me I would consider it....

best thoughts!

Morning everyone! Happy Monday! (insert sarcasm here)

They put him on Dilantin when he was in the hospital. We finally got in to see a Pediatric Neurologist last week. She doesn't like Dilantin as a "first step for general seizures". According to her, Dilantin is a "step up to it" drug if other stuff doesn't work. There are side effects to long term Dilantin use, mostly dental. The gums can grow and expand and require trimming (which doesn't sound like fun).

I am just worried that because were are, in essence, stepping down from a more powerful anti-convulsive that we are opening the window for him to have seizures again.

Full body convulsive seizures are scary as hell. I don't ever want to see my baby like that again.

Wow, I'm really sorry you guys are going through this..I hope the new meds do the trick! Good luck on the MRI. (wht did they do with the huggie smiley???)Ok, here it is..

Ugh. I don't want to think about drs appointments. DS6 has his MRI under sedation tomorrow morning, which means nothing to eat or drink until after the test.

There will be much whining until lunch tomorrow.

:grouphug: To you & DS

Ok, the loser in me is winning :sad2: I really must get this house into some sort of shape other than "out of" but the darn Dis is like crack & I am an addict!!!

I have tried to do some work in the house but it just ain't happenin :rolleyes2 I wash a dish, Dis for an hour, wash a dish, Dis for an hour, check the Lounge, you see the viscious cycle. I don't know what I would do if we ever lost power or internet connection :scared:

So today I am being a.....lets see whats a Loser & Winner smooshed together - a lonner, wiser, linner, eh, who cares, either way I aint got jack done :crazy2:

good thing - my timing is right... I just took a sleeping pill, about to board a plane for about 10 hours of travelling

have a good afternoon everyone!

Have a safe trip :wave2: I hope this isn't you in the middle :crowded:

Well I ended up taking a nap this morning & the twosome didn't destroy anything:thumbsup2 Now I have to do something productive, maybe I'll fold the laundry.

Shhhhh.... do you hear that? :ssst:

It's the sound of naptime.

:yay:

#2 DS is supposed to be taking a nap, but I just heard him singing a Backyardigan song.

RVGal - :grouphug: I can't imagine going thru all that. Here's hoping they figure it out. PS I HATED NPO as a child. But after my mom would take me to McDonalds and get me whatever I wanted. I still remember making her get me more sausage.

Yes - Reeces Eggs says "eggs" and those are a breakfast food, so it counts. Plus peanut better is a great source of protein.

Bavaria - have a safe flight.

I need to do some winnering today. I started OK, then my neighbor called and we talked for almost 2 hours. Oh well, the hubby won't fire me.

PS - this baby is really into ham and cheese loaf sandwiches this past week. I need to go buy more as I just ate the last of it.

Ok I said I wasnt going to complain but I have spent all this time on the phone and when I have been on hold I have been talking here and on the lounge and I still cant find anyone that takes our insurance to get this poor kid and eye Dr appt.:sad2:

DH works in NJ and so it is a healthplan through the healthcare system he works for. We lucked out with all the other Drs so I guess I shouldnt complain but I know DH will give me grief if I dont try to get this exam covered since we now have insurance but to me this is so not worth it, I just want to go back to who I like and who laughs when I walk in the door with Ds and his glasses bc they know me.

Whose the insurance company? Usually there is an onsite tool with them - check the back of your insurance card - where you can search for a doctor in your area. I hate switching insurance co. - we had to in January but thank god everyone accepted the new plan so we didn't have to switch any doctors. You could also check with the dr you like and see if he will cut you a price deal because you want to stay with him but your insurance doesn't cover it.

I agree. Have the company check for a doc in your area.

DH and I moved to South Dakota and the company we worked for was based out of Minneapolis. They had to put us on an "indemnity plan" while we were there, otherwise I think we would have been "out of network" for everything.

Dh works in NJ too...I hate dealing with his insurance...but his work pays for it..so i guess I shouldn't complain.

oh...and I have to share...I just hung my 2008 calendar...and it's still only february!!! (last year I think it was May)

:flower3: pixiedust: :grouphug: Hugs and pixie dust to you and the little guy. Maybe a McDonald's lunch aftereward will help.

Who's your provider? I just look mine up on the website and I think there is an out of network fee but it's still cheaper than OOP. I feel for you with the glasses. DD has had 3 pairs (and now contacts, too) in about 16 months!
1st pair closed in a locker door=bent frame, 2nd pair, ran into a door:rolleyes: and the 3rd pair is only a month old, but she is wearing contacts now so....

Well, I was a little winner-ish this am. Met DH at the gym on base for a workout--he runs and I walk and we use treadmills so that we can distract each other. Now it is snowing:sad2: It's the kind of really big, fluffy flakes that are really pretty but I am so tired of winter! Bring on spring!
