Day 6 - Saturday, 28 Jun 2003 - Moving Day and Families 2 and 3 Arrivals
I got my last Mickey wake up call at 8AM. Headed down and got coffee and just enjoyed the view for the last time. Got back to the room and started packing. I let everyone else sleep until 9:30AM and then forced them out of bed. LT still needed to pack her stuff up and DH was going to need help from David to get everything in the van. We got out of the room exactly at 11AM and headed for the rental house. The key lock worked perfectly (Id been having nightmares of not being able to get in) and soon we were inside a beautiful 6 bedroom home. We quickly unpacked the van and got down to settling in. I showed the girls their room and proceeded to unpack the food we had and all our clothes. There was not question about which room DH and I got - the Master Bedroom with its King sized bed and tub built for 2
Id already told everyone it was my reward for organizing the trip. I did a few loads of laundry and made lunch for everyone. The first of the other families to arrive was Family 2 from Fort Campbell KY - SIL Laura and her three boys, Chris (9) Steven (5) and Daniel (2). Id sent Laura directions on how to get to Orlando and the house and it said it would take 13 hours so we really didnt expect to see her until around 5PM but she found a short cut and was there by 2:15PM. She made it in just over 10 hours (she, like us lost an hour due to the time difference) -- okay shes a nut -- she left her house at 3AM. She is a morning person as am I but thats just too early for me. Works for her though
Showed Laura the other rooms and gave her a choice of which room she wanted. She picked the one I wanted to give anyway - I think the oversized tub was the clincher. While she unpacked the boys changed into their suits and were in the pool before you could blink. They spent a lot of time in the pool. We all sat around the pool catching up and waiting for family 3. They pulled in around 5:30PM. Mom, Roz, Paul, Nick (8) and Lauren (4) flew in from Hartford CT. Id also sent them directions to the house and they had no problems finding it. Everyone was impressed with the house by the way.
After settling family 3 in we had a few things we had to do buy park hoppers and shop for food. MIL decided to stay home, Paul didnt have a choice - he had to stay and watch his kids. My teens were responsible for Lauras three. So DH, Laura, Roz and I got in the van and headed for the Contemporary, from there DH and Roz would go to the Shades of Green ticket office and get her passes and Laura and I would walk over to the MK and get her Military Salute passes. The walk to the MK seemed longer this time - think it was because Id already spent 4 days walking. Anyway we got her passes and got back to the CR just as Roz and Dave were getting in the van. Unfortunately they didnt get the passes, seems the SOG Ticket office closed at 5PM. Funny, I could have sworn I read they stayed open until 9PM, last time I needed tickets from them they were open until 9PM. (Quick note - they updated their site on 3 July 03 to reflect the new hours - big help - NOT) Guess with the Military Salute going on they are not that busy so they decreased their hours. Okay, no biggie, they open at 8AM so well just have to make sure Roz and Dave are there by 8AM tomorrow to get their passes. Now its time to shop. Back in February my MIL won a $1000 gift card from K-Mart in a sweepstakes I entered her in. She said shed save some of it for our trip to Disney and true to her word she arrived with $325 left on the card. So we went to Kmart and purchased a lot of food (mostly breakfast food, snacks, milk, OJ, water, soda) and supplies (T-paper, paper plates, laundry soap, etc). I also entered my MIL in two other sweeps that were giving away cash and she won $100 in each of those so all totaled in a 3 month period I won her $1200 - she used the $200 cash to rent an ECV from Walker Mobility. (Those wins pretty much covered her expenses for the trip -- too bad I wasnt as lucky with my own sweepstakes entries) We called the house to tell them we were on our way home and ask what they wanted for dinner only to find Paul had already called and ordered 7 pizzas from Dominoes (LT works in Dominoes back in ID but could not get any kind of employee discount). We got back just as the pizzas arrived. After we all ate I pulled out the surprise packages Id made for each of the little kids - sort of Disney survival kits. Each child received a fanny pack (filled with snacks), Disney sunglasses, a Disney Pez Dispenser, a new toothbrush (Disney themed of course) and a personalized photo album decorated with Disney Characters. Each family got a stack of colorful 4X6 cards, a plastic envelope to store the cards, 3 sharpies and a small 5X8 clipboard for collecting autographs (the idea being they can get the autographs on the cards and then display them in the photo albums along with pictures of them with the characters.) Each family also got a spray bottle and a Mickey Antenna ball. Lauras family got a camouflage one and Rozs family got a pink Princess one since Lauren would be celebrating her birthday while at WDW. Lauren the birthday girl also got a special autograph book, pink with princess (that you cant buy any more and neither Jackie or I can remember when or where we got it, its just been sitting on Jackies bookcase forever) and a pair of socks with Mickey heads on the back (very cute). The kids finally went to bed and the adults followed shortly after. Tomorrow is our first day in the parks and were doing Animal Kingdom.
