Lamest Attractions

Jungle Cruise and Indy Speedway - Although both of these attractions are classics and do have some positive aspects, in general: What a waste of space! Looking at the map these things take up like half the park, and they are most likely the worst experiences there. I understand that they are not really intended for adults, but that does not justify their mind-numbing lameness. They should plow them down and put fun attractions in their place, if Disney wants a quiet place for people to rest while at the park why not use 1/16th the area of those rides and put in a Recliner Village.

I disagree entirely. Jungle Cruise was Walt Disney's favorite attraction when Disneyland opened back in 1955 which is why it's still at both Disneyland and WDW. In Walt's apartment above the Main Street Fire Department at Disneyland, he had it built so he could see the Jungle Cruise ride from his back balcony just because of how much he loved that ride. Disney would never get rid of Jungle Cruise.

Also, bear in mind that these rides are probably much more entertaining to younger age groups than an adult. Think about how much fun Speedway would be for a kid who can't drive a real car.

But I will definately agree that there are a few lame attractions at WDW. Buzz Lightyear has become a popular attraction since it opened but I found it really boring and pointless. Another one being Mission: Space. This ride isn't exactly lame, but I still don't think it deserves the publicity that it gets sometimes.

My kids love going on both of these. As an adult, I certainly understand your "lameness" point. However, if you are looking for support in getting rid of these attraction I am not sure you will find it here.

I see your point about JC and IS, but personally would be sad if they took those out! The "Walt" factor for Jungle Cruise makes it hard for me to do anything but love that ride. I can never miss it. My elderly parents just loved it in October, it was the one thing besides Pirates they remembered from visiting Disneyland in the 60's and 70's. The thing I love about rides like Jungle Cruise and others like them is that when we go with the grandparents its something we can all enjoy together. And my 9 and 11 year olds love Indy Speedway so I have fun on that. Of course my lungs feel like I am riding behind 4000 stinky lawnmowers but my kids have a ball. Thats the dilemma with deciding what rides to remove/update. What one person hates, another loves. I would be amazed if Disney ever removed Jungle Cruise from either WDW or DL.

I can't speak for the Jungle Cruise since we have never done it. We have been to WDW 6 times and not once bothered to do this. However, we are going in May with two people that have never been and will probably ride it with them.

However, the Indy Speedway has got to go. It is honestly a waste of space. I love WDW and can think of many other things the Magic Kingdom could do with that area.

If a kid wants to feel like they are driving a car, let them do all the antique car rides at every other park ever. Magic Kingdom and WDW in general is way to unique and special to allow this ride to continue operating.

As per the topic, the lamest ride in my mind is "Sounds Dangerous" starring Drew Carey. Hope that gets the boot soon.

Lol...when I was a child I thought the WED way was so lame...that ride is among my all-time favorites as an adult. I can view the whole of tomorrowland on this ride. I have great memories of taking my children on it when they thought this was how one rode Space Mountain! (when they were too short to ride SM). If I didn't hear, "...paging Mr. Morrow...Mr. Tom Morrow...", once or twice each trip I would feel incomplete. This ride also has the best view of the topiary Sea Serpent, too!

I used to ride this for an hour each afternoon while my three little ones napped in my arms or leaning against me. They were 2, 2 and 4. I just circled my finger in the air at the end of the ride and the CM shut the door and let me ride as many times around as I wished. Unlike me, my children have always loved this ride. The girls were 16 this last trip and it was their suggestion that we ride this two times around for old times sake. I told them someday I'd take their baby on this ride for a nap while they took an older child on other rides! We all laughed at that when I added...just not too soon, please!

I just have to say about the Indy Speedway...young children who can "drive these cars" are in seventh heaven. This is a powerful memory for a youngster too small to drive anything. It isn't too babyish for them because it doesn't just "go aound". They really feel that they are driving because the steering wheel actually takes them left and/or right...although the "guide" keeps them from going off the track...and provides some great bumpy fun!

How proud they are when they exit the ride, saying "I really drove...I really drove...all by myself! ...and daddy/mommy says I was a good driver!

Priceless.

I'd call it a rite of passage...or perhaps a ride of passage? :teeth:

how about the tiki tiki tiki room. They should rename it the nap nap nap room. :rotfl2:

And yes, I've sat through since they redid it. Still bored stiff. :teeth:

Actually if you are going to take out rides that you can do at any ordinary amusment park you will have to remove Dumbo, the train, the carousel, Triceratop Spin and probably a few others I can't think of. While I agree these rides aren't Imagineering at its best, they are fun and relatively cheap to operate. Not every ride can be a Soarin or Test Track. WDW is great because to me it has a good balance of rides that anybody can ride without a height requirement that are fun for the whole family. I suppose that if my kids didn't have so much darn fun on the Indy Speedway, I would be all for taking it out but I would be bummed for them! It does take up a lot of space which is kind of a bummer. I do have to agree about the Drew Carey thing. I don't think that attraction is enjoyed by anyone unless they need a nap! But I could be wrong ;) .

I love WDW so much that it's hard for me to truly 'admit' that ANY ride could be lame. But if I have to answer it it would have to be Snow White. Yes, I understand it's for kids, but even so...

I think the Speedway should be done away with, or (even better) updated to use electric vehicles to suit the Tomorrowland theme better (and to make them less annoying).
I am also no fan of Sounds Dangerous.

Which rides are "lame" are going to vary from person to person. I personally enjoy Jungle Cruise alot (I have a fondness for bad puns). I also enjoy sitting and watching kids go by on the Speedway - the expressions on some of those faces is pure joy. Someone mentioned thinking Buzz Lightyear is lame - it is one of my favorites. I think for every ride/attraction you will find some people who love it and some who hate it.

I think JC is lame because of the hissing cobras in the temple. :scared: I rode it once 18 years ago when I was 13. I enjoyed it up until we entered the temple.

IS is fine because there are no snakes. :)

I like Sounds Dangerous.

I do feel as if I have Adult Onset ADD everytime I experience the Tiki Room -- but I understand that others like it -- Dh enjoys it and we see it every visit. It might capture my twins attention.

I'm putting on my flame suit (:firefight) but I think autographs are lame.

Stitch's Lame Escape! Quite possibly the 2nd worst redesign of an attraction in WDW history (after the first redesign of Imagination...)

I TOTALLY agree! My DS was 3 the last time we went to WDW & he loved "driving" the Indy car with my husband. We're going back to WDW this fall; he will have just turned 5 & he's already asking if he can drive the race cars. Lame for adults - totally. But it's magical for little kids - and that's what Disney is all about.

Boy, when I did a thread about dumping JC I got beat up a lot worse than this. My idea at the time was to keep JC but change the AAs to Disney animals like from Tarzan, Jungle Book, Lion King, etc.

As for the Indy thing, the rumor thats been bandied about is that its going to be turned into a "Cars" attraction.

this was my 1st choice cause it is so poorly done plus scares the be jabbers out of it's"intended" audience :rotfl:

jungle cruise and carousel o progress might have been W. Disney's favorites 50 yrs ago but uhhumm he might actually have changed with the times too had he still been alive..sorry but would be glad to see some serious updating to JC.

The only lame ride I can think of is the River of time ride in Mexico, Epcot center. My family loves the jungle cruise and the indy speedway. One section I think they can completely re-do is the dino land area in AK. It reminds me too much of a carnivale scene. They could have done so much better in that area. Now don't get me wrong, the rides are just fine, it's just the atmosphere that I don't like. :confused3

That's a good idea! I also second the switch to electric cars. I always felt bad for the CMs who had to work there and suck in all that carbon monoxide all day.

My kids loved the speedway when they were little. I could only take so much before getting a headache.
