What "popular" (critical or general-public-wise) movie made you feel "out of the loop"?

I can think of a few: Field of Dreams, Sleepless in Seattle, MANY of the Oscar winners ;) Some I just don't GET or I see them coming a mile away (Crying Game).

(Others are unabashedly corny/goofy/obvious but love them, so I ain't throwin' stones....)

Denise < --- not movie critic and doesn't play one on TV ;)

The big one that I thought was really lame was the Blair Witch trial.

And Titanic. I enjoyed the technical stuff more than the story they wrote for the movie.

Blair Witch was so lame I didn't even remember the name correctly. lol

The one that comes to mind for me is Bridges of Madison County. Oh, I so hated that movie. I just could not believe that Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, two fine actors, would subject themselves to such drivel. Did they not read the script beforehand? Everyone was crying in the end, I was

Any Oliver Stone movie. He defines the meaning of Over Rated, imo.

Titanic. I don't think I need to elaborate on this one, do I?

Dances with Wolves: the only movie I actually fell dead asleep to in a movie theatre. My husband had to actually shake me to wake me up when it was over.

Bridges of Madison County...I just don't get it:confused:

I liked Titanic, but it is a one time movie for me...I could never sit through it more than once...

and the big one...the one I fell alseep in the movie theater with my friend....The Pelican Brief...

* Gone With the Wind - Sorry, it just doesn't grab me.
* Blair Witch Project - Booooring. A bunch of kids wandering around the woods swearing. Big deal.
* Mars Attacks - I really wanted to like this one.
* Any of the Batman movies except for the first one - Boy, they've screwed that franchise up.
* Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Overrated. And that's coming from someone who loves Chow Yun Fat.

 I fell asleep during Dances with Wolves too! I thought I was the only one! :p Even now, when it comes on TV, I fall asleep. I've never seen the movie all the way through. :p

Okay, and I'm gonna hear it for this one, but I have to say it: Footloose  I just saw it for the first time last week. It was just ............ well .......... corny. :p

LOL, Saffron, it was lame. But I love it anyway. :teeth:

I agree with the Titanic. It was okay. Once was enough for me.

Also, and I know this is a BIG favorite here, The Sixth Sense. I guess I should've seen it while it was still in the theater, because by the time I rented it on DVD, it didn't do a thing for me. I was like "what was so great about this?" I liked Signs better.

The Matrix. My DH and sons absolutely love this move and have watched it countless times. I think it sucked!

Okay, I confess.... I love the Blair Witch Project. I still watch it. I just pretend that it's real instead of actors. :) I like the second Blair Witch movie, too. :teeth:

I could go on forever on this topic. The ones that come to mind first are "Waterworld", "Pretty Woman", "An Officer and a Gentleman" and "Breaking Away". All in the SUPERLAME category for me. :D

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

This was probably the most recent movie that falls into the lame category for me. I could never understand what all the fuss was about.

Rosemary's Baby! LAME LAME LAME! What was so scary about this movie, other than Mia Farrow's acting.

Titanic, definately. There were so many interesting TRUE stories associated with that tragedy, why in the world did they think they needed to make one up????

I agree with that. I've been a Titanic buff for years before the movie came out. I've seen some of the stuff that ended up on the cutting room floor (such as the S.S. Californian being only a couple of miles away and ignoring the Titanics flares) that could have shown how much bigger a tragedy it really was.

I was hoping there would be a diretors cut with all the historical stuff put back in but James Cameron said he didn't want to detract from the love story

Grog, I think it would have been a better movie if he had.

Much better. I would have gladly sat through a four hour directors cut that included more of the real history.

I didn't care for Titanic at all.

Somtimes I think a film gets reviews that are so great I go into the theater expecting too much and then I'm disappointed. Top Gun is an example of this. I thought it was a "sweet" movie but not something I would see again and certainly not worthy of all the raves I heard from other people before I finally went and saw it.

My choice: AMERICAN BEAUTY. Most of my brilliant friends consider this the only worthy Best Picture winner of the past five years, but I didn't care for it at all. I wouldn't call it "lame." I could acknowledge the strength of the performances (Kevin Spacey's especially) and the crafting of the movie. But it left me emotionally hollow. It never pulled me into its world and made me care; instead, it left me at arm's length. Now, my brilliant friends who loved the movie tell me, "It's supposed to do that. That's part of the point." Maybe, and if keeping the audience as emotionally detached from the characters as the characters are from each other was the point, then the film did an excellent job. But this movie made me feel "out of the loop" more than others because it just didn't have the things I go to the movies FOR: 1) an experience of a world (time, place, people) about which I am curious; and 2) characters in whom I can make an investment. Fewer critics and fewer filmgoers seem to care about these two things, so I guess I'm behind the times.
