I hardly ever get one, but we are going out of town and I planned to get one Thursday. I was really looking forward to it. Today, I cut the top of the back of my heel, the part of your foot that typically gets blisters ( so not the bottom of my foot, the back). I'm afraid to go with a cut on my foot. I'm afraid to get an infection. I should skip the pedicure, right? And have yucky fugly scary feet for my trip? :(. I feel like it's not worth the risk, but I am really bummed.

Ask if they can just focus on doing your toes....
No foot-bath, etc...

If the skin is really broken, I think I would be concerned too.

You could use a liquid bandage to keep the area protected. I'm always getting cuts on my hands and use New Skin's liquid bandage to seal the wounds. I'm a nurse and with the constant handwashing traditional band-aids don't stay put.

I wouldn't take the chance. You never know what was in the basin before you and I don't wouldn't trust the employees to clean it well enough. Give yourself a nice at home polish. I would deal with the "yucky fugly scary feet" (lol) rather that some unknown bacteria that could really cause a medical problem and may even stay with you for the rest of your life. I'm sure they won't look too bad. Have a nice time. :goodvibes

I'd buy a pumice stone for dry areas, a moisturizing foot lotion (avoid the cut obviously) and a light pink or maybe sand cored polish, and do your own pedicure. I wouldn't risk a nasty infection that could ruin your trip. If you use a lighter color it doesn't have to be perfect, your toes are pretty forgiving. I'm sure they'll still look great!

I would skip the pedicure, honestly. As someone who got a toe infection last year from a pedicure, its not worth it. Buy some stuff and do it at home.

That's happened yo my DD and I both before. We waited until the cut healed before a pedicure was done again. Just paint your toes yourself.

My feet are looking pretty wintery. I am going to try and fix em up myself the best I can. I might go pop in at the doctors tomorrow. I just changed the bandage and I'm wondering if I need a few stitches, and possibly a tetanus shot. It is still kind of bleeding, but it doesn't really hurt much. But it's pretty deep, and I'm not sure what caused the cut, it felt sharp but when I tuned over the ottoman, I can't find anything that looks sharp. I didn't realize how deep it was. :( I'm sad I was looking forward to having gussied up toes. :artist:

I know you are right. I'm just having a pity party.

I would definitely see a doctor, especially since you are not sure if stitches are needed and whether you are up to date on your tetanus protection.

If I had ever gotten a pedicure other than in a podiatrist's office, I would have taken my own basin and my own tools with me.

I ended up with some eczema on my toes this year. I wanted to get a pedi, but decided to do my own. I bought a nice spring color and some top coat and they actually look pretty decent. I just did not want to chance any germs getting into the open areas where the eczema is.

See the doctor and get his/her advice.

You can always go to the salon and ask for a polish change, rather than a full pedicure. They won't soak you, just clip/file nails, push back cuticles, and put on the polish. You'll still have pretty toes.

I agree with this! I would go for it, but SKIP the foot bath. They can do your toes without it. Use a pumice stone yourself at home for dry heels.

Yes, just ask them to do the polish.

Honestly, I cannot paint my own toes at home and make them look decent.

I ended up with a few stitches, a tetanus shot, antibiotics, and a warning to avoid the nail salons until completely healed at the very least, but he recommends not going at all ever, he said he gets a lot of business in the er from nail salon infections thus time of year. . He did say I can swim on vacation, he gave me some clear super sticky bandages to cover it with that are waterproof, but he said they are not for pedicures. :rotfl: I'm painting my own toes tonight!

Great advice!

Wow! I'm so glad you went and got it checked out! So glad! Hopefully it will heal up quick! And what he said about the pedis...I keep going about once every 3 weeks but it does concern me. Something to think about for sure! Bless you!
