Ladies: Purse, backpack, fannypack or ??

Fanny Pack for me. I tried a backpack once, and I thought my back and shoulders would fall off my body AND it was very hot. A have a not too large fanny pack that holds everything I need: small wallet, chap stick, poncho, extra contacts, keys, passes, sunglasses, cell phone.

This is strange, My MIL, who has been plagued with back problems for years prefers a small back pack.

I also tried the small purse w/ long strap and I didn't like it because the strap cut into my neck.

My dh prefers a backpack and he has major back problems. From what I'm guessing that if you get a backpack that fits your correctly, it's fine.

I am a "fashionista" and I only wear a fannypack at WDW or DL. It is so nice and you really can't tell it's even on you. I got it at the resort giftshop, so it says Disney on it. I keep light, with only chapstick, keys/tickets, sunglasses, $, and sunblock in it. I love it! I couldn't survive without it there.

I'm making my first trip to WDW in June. For you experienced visitors, what is your preferred way to carry your necessities, and why?

First of all I LOVE your singing Poodle! ;)

I carry a fanny pack for my ticket, money, CC, room key, sunglasses, chapstick, etc..that I can fit in there.

My DH and I take turns with the backpack that has the cameras, film, batteries, ponchos, snacks, drinks, souvenirs, sunscreen etc...

I used to carry only a fanny pack, but last year I switched to a thin nylon back pack (the kind with string for arm holes) and I liked it more than the fanny pack. I will take both in may and see which works best!

We like fanny packs. Each of us(3) has a different type & size. Mine can be converted into a across the chest purse. DH has a netted water bottle carrier, DS has a metal ring to attach whatever. I leave mine loose enough to push aside when seated at a restaurant. Love the hands free & we all have plenty of room.
If you do buy a fanny pack with water carrier, be sure to fit the pack out with a water bottle before purchasing, I've heard some say they have a tough time finding a bottle to fit the cool drink carriers.
As to stuffing the pockets, great idea, just make sure none of the rides turn you upside down--gravity! :wizard:

Does anyone know if they make cargo shorts for women? Last time I went with DS, he carried nothing. But he always wore cargo shorts which he stuffed with his camera, wallet, hat, etc. I've tried the fanny pack-for some reason it hurts my lower back, backpack makes my back sweaty (I'm going in May when it's hot). Men's cargo shorts? Hmmmm! Well, the fashion police already have my number-I wear sandals with socks!

Hi!

Eddie Bauer makes a great scaled down back pack. It is smaller in size than a "regulation" backpack but still has all of the necessary compartments etc. Also, it is extremely comfortable. Only $19.00 at the local outlet.

Great idea about the cargo shorts! I, too, have lower back issues whenever I carry my fanny pack. But I also look like a pack mule! Attached to my fanny pack are my camera bag on one side and my sunglass case on the other. Not to forget my cell phone, money, lipstick, anti-bacterial gel, and other assorted goodies inside my pack. I look like I am planning on moving in to the Magic Kingdom. All I need is a canteen and I am set! :rotfl:

I really like the idea of having my hands free, but am wondering if I'm going to want to have water with me all the time. I was thinking of a small purse with a long strap that I can carry across my body so my shoulders don't get tired. I like fannypacks, but I think in hot, humid June I'll be sorry if I have something hooked around my waist all day.

You know that's what I thought last year. Last year I had this perfect travel bag that I was going to carry across my body so my shoulders would get tired...after my first day I knew I WAS WRONG!!!! I hurt so bad that that night I went to the gift shop in my resort and bought this backpack that was drawstring on top (that way nobody could get into it by unzipping it)and let me tell you that I loved it so much I am using it again this year. I think that I probably would have paid twice the price for it so I wouldn't have to deal with that darn purse again. But the bag that I bought was relatively small, but there were many pockets to hold my stuff. It wasn't large and bulky like traditional back packs, so I was not trotting around with a ton of weight on me. Plus it never got in my way on rides :) But hey, that's just my two cents worth.

At Disney I almost always go with a fanny pack. I like having my hands free. I have one with a number of pockets and usually put my tickets and spending money for that day in the front pocket. That way i don't have to pull out my wallet very much. Works for us.

We bought another fanny pack that holds two large water bottles and we'll be bringing that with us in June. DH wore it on our DCL excursions. We filled the water bottles with ice and topped them off with water. Had nice cool drinking water all day long.
