Ladies- Just say NO...

I have to disagree. I think loose t-shirts make people look bigger and fitted t's are more flattering.

I agree.

Either way, I really hope the trend of longer tops continues. It's nice to be able to buy cute shirts I see at the store instead of having to order talls online.

I don't see how not wanting to wear a bodystocking shirt makes you assume that I wear Mom jeans, big frumpy shirts, and dirty sneakers. :confused3 I don't wear any of those things ever.

.

I didn't say that you dress that way, it's just a general observation. A PP mentioned wearing mom jeans, so I wanted to share my opinion on women who dress like that.

Sorry. I misunderstood.:flower3: I do agree with you on that point. I am not a fan of that look either.

My only objection to the very thin fabric of some clingy tees is that it doesn't last through very many washes. So I have to be very careful with tees like that, because they can't take hard wearing. As for bras, I match the colour to either my skin or the shirt I'm wearing - no problem.

But actually, I like those tees. I think they look nice on me, and my husband concurs. I'm not at all lumpy, though.

And that my dear is key!:cutie: I cannot say the same.:rotfl:

You don't have to be snarky about it. In your siggie picture you have on a purple shirt. I would consider that a normal shirt. Is that your boxy tee shirt that you slept in or painted in? I am talking about the thin t-shirts that hug every lump. I don't care who you are, (a general you) unless you are in super fit shape which most people are not- it is not a good look. If you buy those shirts in a larger size so they don't hug they look like a stretched out shirt- even on kids.

Its a Ralph Lauren fitted tee shirt. It's a very thin material. I am bent over so it looks a little baggie but it fit me perfectly.

I think I know what shirts you are speaking of, the ones that are long and very thin and skin tight, so tight that even a teenager has lumps in them, is this correct? I hate those shirts also and what you say is a normal T-shirt that the pp is wearing is a normal t-shirt to me also. I don't like big boxy shirts, like your DH over sized shirts, but I won't wear what the 16 year olds are wearing either, and in fact even most 16 year olds don't look good in them.

Merona @ Target makes some GREAT v-neck slightly fitted tees. They are pretty much the only shirts I wear, I have about 15 different colors. I am not fat, but not what you would consider thin, and I think they look great on me (and they make the 'girls' look fab). :confused3

I have those too, and also Sonoma ones from Kohl's. They look great and are CHEAP!!! I have several of both brands.

Ew, I hate the fitted ones! I don't wanna see all your rolls and lumps (hint hint to my boss)! I wear tshirts, but I buy a size that SKIMS my body, so I don't look bigger than I really am (which ain't that tiny at all ) yet their not so tight you see every bit of me!

Oh thank you! That is exactly what I am talking about.:thumbsup2:worship:

Disneyscraps- the shirt you had on is what I consider normal.

ETA- I am going to check out Kohls. I always forget about that store.

Yeah, I thought so. I mean if you are sporting the anorexic look it is fine, but any shirt so tight and so thin that you can wear 2 and not feel like a stuffed pig, isn't something most people should wear. the shirts you are talking abut are trashy for anyone but a teen and fitted shirts look nice on the rest of us. IMHO any woman that wears these shirts and is over the age of 20, is having a serious identity crisis. Mush like a 60 year old in a mini shirt. lol

It's probably in the middle. It's not boxy is has that indentation for my waist but it is not one of those tee shirt that are so think they are almost see through. Those are really made for tiny teenagers that have never had a child, never had a lump, not a pound overweight. I have a few from J Crew and I LOVE that they charge 40.00 for something that you can almost see through. Yup, suckered into buying a few!

Me either  and neither can alot of the women I see wearing those kinds of shirts. Fitted (tight fitted, not ultra tight though) shirts can look great on some people but definitely not on all.

Likely true!

I think the reason I appreciate being able to wear fitted tees now is because I was too self-conscious to wear them when I was younger. When I was a young person, I only wore giant oversized t-shirts under giant oversized sweatshirts.

Now maybe my body isn't quite as nice as it was back then, but it's still good enough and I'm secure enough to appreciate it and even flaunt it a little. It won't last forever! I'd be sorry if they suddenly stopped selling them.

I think it's best to have a range of different tees - something for everyone!

There's a difference between tight & fitted. My tees are fitted in that you can see the shape of my body but they are not so tight you can read the tag on the back. I have found that while I normally take a size L in regular tees (so I can get the fitted look) I often need to go up to an XL or XXL in the tees labeled as 'fitted'. Which is fine as no one sees the tag!!
I too have a not small chest & if I wear a loose tee (or just about any loose item of clothing up top without a fitted under layer [like an unbuttoned shirt over a fitted tank]) it hangs straight down from my 'shelf' & makes me look huge. If I wear a fitted tee it curves under my shelf & gives the impression of a slimmer waist. This is also why I invest in good bras. Lifted 'girls' means more space between chest & waist & makes you look longer & leaner.

AFA where to shop, I tend to hit boutiques (you can get good deals I promise) & places like the GAP & Torrid. Torrid can be a bit goth but you can find some great stand alone pieces that work with a less head banging lifestyle! :p

See this drives me crazy about sizing. Everyone says go up a size so it fits better. I look at the fitted 2X shirts and there is no way I could fit that. I wear anywear from a 1x to 3X it all depends on the shirt. If you go bigger they think you have big girls , that is not true in my case. I guess my point is skinny people now have to wear 2X to get a good fit. Where does that leave the rest of us....:confused3 in boxy big shirts or sausage type cliny shirts.

I see so many women out in Mom jeans and big frumpy shirts, with dirty beat up athletic shoes.. that's gross to me. I can't imagine why you would want to dress like that. I agree with the PP that said that the big boxy shirts are part of what has contributed to women getting bigger. They can just hide their weight behind a shirt and be happy. I can't stand normal teeshirts, I like the fitted shirts that showcase my body without revealing too much or making me look like a mom who doesn't care what I look like.

Then you've probably seen me out and about. :rotfl: I'm not vain in the least (surely DH wishes I was) and simply prefer comfort over trying to be stylish. I rely on my sunny disposition rather than if my t-shirt meets with everyone's approval. And I certainly wouldn't categorize someone as "gross" unless I knew them well and didn't like them.

I like fitted shirts, I often will get some plain ones and if I feel self-conscious that day I will put a button down shirt as a cover up. Sure, I have seen some women wear them when it is probably best that another type of shirt would fit them but if they feel comfortable and its tasteful its their business.

I only wear fitted shirts and I agree that the quality of the material has gone down over the years. Also, unless I'm shrinking, I think that they are making t-shirts LONGER.

I've pretty much always worn fitted ts, and the material has definitely nose dived in quality. I never had to layer my t-shirts in the past (or put a camisole under). Oh, they are getting longer too, thank goodness to cover the super low rise jeans that have taken over the world.

If it's something like a college t-shirt, I often choose the mens t-shirts now so I don't have to deal with the layering nonsense.

Personally I'm quite fond of the fitted shirt trend on the women who look good in them (and the low-rise jeans too). Everyone can't wear the same clothes though and look good.

If you can pull it off go for it. If you can't please don't for everyone's sake.

You CAN be stylish and comfortable.

What you mean is I am lazy about how I dress. I wear what I have always worn because it's easy.
