Has anyone been Labor Day weekend in the past? I was wondering what to expect this year. We will be arriving on Saturday and staying through Labor Day to the end of that week. Any help would be appreciated.

We usually run over for Labor Day weekend every year - pros are the crowd level is good (not crowded), cons are that it is always H-O-T (with a capital H!) and sometimes a hurricane/tropical storm is brewing so we have to keep an eye on that :teeth:

The only event I found scheduled that might affect the crowds is the "Tom Joyner Family Reunion" (TJ has morning show/CSR is the base hotel) August 31 - September 5. Aretha Franklin and Sinbad are two of the performers listed for their private parties!

Just keep the heat in mind while planning your days (and bring sunscreen!), and make sure to plan to pace yourself. My DH loves the heat and it doesn't affect him, while I get pretty drained, and usually beg him to go back to the resort for a little while to recover, then go out to the parks again ;)

You'll have a great time! :thumbsup2

we go every labor day weekend, and doing it again this yr with free dining :cool1: crowds are always low as it's usually the first weekof school, but its only a short drive for us so we always make the trip. The key to these trips is awake early and hit the parks till around 11:30 or12 then back to the hotel for some rest and pool time, and then hit the parks around 5ish when the sun starts to go down, and you will avoid the major heat. We love this time cause crowds are so low.

We have been there in the past and found that it was hot and crowded. We went about 5 years ago so that may have changed recently.

We were in 2003 on labor day weekend and it was packed! By wednesday that week it was great low crowds but very hot and humid and some Tstorms put a damper on things. We are going again this time even though I said never again, because of free dining and DD has labor day off. We will be arriving on Saturday also. If you wear makeup it will melt right off your face it is so hot.

To Add onto what Seahunt had to say. I was at Disney 2004 when the Tom Joyner Family reunion was being held. MGM closed early because TJ had reserved the park for his activities. Only folks that had book for the family reunion could go to MGM that Saturday afternoon & night. So every one else had to go to Mk and Epcot (animal kingdom closes early) which meant they were really crowded. Keep that in mind for 9/2. It may be that way again.

I went Labor Day weekend last year (Sunday thru Wednesday) and it was great! Sunday was a bit crowded (we went to MGM) but manageable but the other days were pretty low crowd levels. By Wednesday it felt like no one was there. We stayed at Coronado Springs which was where all the Tom Joyner reunion people were staying so it was really busy on Sunday but they all checked out by Monday morning and it seemed like the resort was empty. I'd definitely go Labor Day weekend again. Didn't find it unbearably hot either - better than July.

We went last year and arrived on Labor Day. We didn't see many families with school age kids. We arrived when the parks opened and it was great. The other event at MK which is the Friday and Saturday after Labor day, is the Night of Joy. MK closes by 6 pm on Friday and Saturday unless you buy an event ticket for Night of Joy.

Be prepared if you are staying at the CR, the bands practice their set the night before they play starting at midnight. It makes for a couple of rought nights if you are the contemporary as you can hear the bands from midnight to about 6 in the morning on Thursday and Friday night.
