Probably depends on your specific Kroger, but yesterday, at my Krogers, I found the kind you can put a few hundred on. That helped big time. Normally, I get the $50 cards.
In 2013, they ran them for graduations/Father's Day (late May, into June..) back to school (August) and Christmas (November into December). If the same pattern runs (and I see no reason why it shouldn't), you should be fine.
The fuel rewards, I think, expire the calendar month after you acquire them. So if you acquire them on November 1st, they expire on December 31st. Similarly, if you acquire them on November 30th, they also expire on December 31st.
