Knife in Disney

I don't think I would hide it. If it is found you will look very suspicious. I would find another way to deal with meds, like others have suggested, put them in baggies. In light of all the things going on in the world right now, I believe security is being tightened.

Ok this looks like another attempt to get a thread going. First you say you need it to open things. When it was suggested that a CM would help, then you said you don't want people touching your meds. I am a bit confused, meds typically have the "child proof" top where you have to push down and then twist, so how will a knife help you do that. Then you say you will hide the knife in your knee brace. You know that this will get people to react to the morals of hiding things versus full disclosure to the security people. I would think in today environment full disclosure is the best policy. Nice try!!

I was wondering the same thing. How will a small knife help with opening meds? Why can't you do your thing in the hotel room with the knife and put the meds in baggies, leave bottles behind in the safe. Easy peasy.

I'm sorry but what a ridiculous thread. im sure nobody/most people on this forum have no idea who you are and you're asking for tips on how to get a knife into a family theme park? I'm not usually paranoid but come on! I really don't think so. There is no good reason to take a knife into Disney, not one.

They could mean nonprescription meds, like cold pills or stomach meds that come in clear plastic bubbles with foil backing, or something similar.

These can be opened ahead of time and carried in an easy on container - maybe a pill bottle obtained from the pharmacist, or a screw top plastic travel container, or a toolbox (yes, those are a thing) of some sore, or the aforementioned Ziploc bag... Or brought in as is and opened with the suggested double-duty nail clippers.

I have old hands, too, and I find those clear plastic bubbles a pain, but I've managed to open them with a thumbnail. No knife needed. The nail clippers are a great idea. I'll need to remember that for future use. It would be a whole lot easier.

Think about it this way--what will you do with it if you are told you are not allowed to bring it in? How will you open your meds then? Plan on a way to get into your meds without the knife now.

If you have family along they should be able to help you, right?

Bad idea Texas. I'm born and raised Houston. Having and declaring your knife and allowing it to be a judgement call for security is one thing. Hiding it and them finding it??? You appear to have nefarious intentions. Might not get in the park at all.

I'm already thinking he's not being truthful here making that "I can just hide it" statement. come up with an alternative way to open your medication. he's not the first who has trouble doing that.

open it in your room and put it into a bottle you can manage for example.

I'm not sure what medication the person is taking- I just want to point out that some prescription meds are in unit dosing that is difficult to open. Also some medications are susceptible to moisture, so opening ahead of time to put in another bottle or ziploc may not be an option.
Best option, explain why you have it; show the medication packaging. But please don't try to sneak it in- that is inviting trouble. If all else fails, see if they have something at First Aid with which to open your med.

Thanks for responding, but I need to know if I can bring it in. I don't like anyone touching my meds but me.
I would not bring it in if you have a hard time opening something medical go to first aid and ask one of the nurse if they can help you. I am guessing this is one of the foil things that need to be pulled back, they should be able to help you at first aid. I would not risk needed to return to your hotel or car because the CM that checked you thought it was a weapon

I would definitely not try to sneak it in. That's asking for trouble. If you set off the metal detector and get pat down...

If you need the tip to open say a blister pack, I would ask for a plastic fork at the quick service counter or a plastic knife. Or go to first aid for assistance.

Maybe he needs to cut them in half.

Edit: no, I see he needs it to open things. I would suggest leaving the knife at home and getting a keychain bottle opener instead. The kind with a loop on one end and a pry bar on the other.

My guess is that it is not a bottle that he needs the knife to open. There are many different kinds of individually packaged pills that he may have trouble tearing or punching out. Doing it ahead of time and putting them in a baggie would make them susceptible to moisture and light when they are protected from that in their original packaging.

Maybe also it is an "as needed" medication. It shouldn't be taken from it's original packaging until it is going to be used or the chance of having to waste it is increased.

According to another post he is going on a trip with quite a few family members. One of the other eight people should be able to help him out.

I agree with a PP and it sounds like the OP is just stirring the pot

if baggies are a problem, there are other small plastic containers a person can buy with easy on/off lids. Just off the top of my head, I would check the sample size travel containers for shampoo and conditioners. Some are small with a screw top or pop off top. Heck the pharmacist will give you easy open bottles if you ask.

I agree, the hiding it in the knee brace seemed to be a post to get a reaction and I was one to fall for it. Even if it is the type of medication that has the foil back in the little plastic bubble there are plenty of places that have plastic utensils in the parks that would be able to penetrate that little foil area on the backside of the capsule. There is absolutely no need to be a knife into the park.

I have a little Victorinox type thingy in my bandaid/emergency bag. It's about 2 inches or so long and does have a small (3/4" maybe) blade as well as scissors and nail file. I mostly use the nail file and the scissors for stuff like cutting moleskin or duct tape-had to check and make sure the blade was even there! To be honest, I've never thought about it and it's been through security literally hundreds of times. I've never tried to hide it.

Most of my meds are in the push thru or peel off wrappers, I use the blade to cut the wrapper. I always keep my meds in the original container. I'm a retired Texas Peace Officer, I have put a many a persons in jail for having meds with no original container or attached prescription (loose meds). I am very independent, I don't want to have to wait for family or a CM to have to help me. I have been going to Disney since 1963, I first went to Disney World in 1976. Disney in my families DNA.

My point of this thread was to ask IF I could bring a small knife into the park. After having seen responses that indicate it depends on the security person that day tells me that I can/maybe. I will not take a chance on can/maybe. I will take care of it myself.

I came to this board for assistance, not snipes. I will be careful in the future so I don't "attempt to get a thread going".

This is the knife I have, thank you for answering my question.
