Kingdom Tower DVC at the Contemporary (Orlando Sentinel 2/26/08)

Growing up the south the word kingdom capitalized like that was always a religious thing.

(And I am an Episcopalian... We don't really do "Kingdom"...LOL!)

Maybe it's a Southern thing. I'm Catholic so we build lots of cathedrals and such but we haven't associated with kings much since good ol' Henry VIII made his own and kicked us out. Well there were the French kings but they got their heads lopped off.

But I will say, I hate the acronyms floating about. KTV sounds like a West Coast TV station and KTR sounds like a radio station.

We all assume that some day the other tower will be built at CR. I think that the obvious thinking is that that tower will be the MAGIC tower. For those who dislike the name, does that make it all better? :goodvibes

Not entirely...AKL is one of the lower priced deluxe properties, so having a concierge level is definitely a nice change, but I wouldn't consider it that upscale.

I really hope Disney never does what I was speculating about, but I've just been a bit nervous lately about rumors concerning FP's only for deluxes, etc. To me it really does seem like they are looking for ways to separate the masses (so to speak).

A little off track here, but are Villas considered Deluxe category? The FP for deluxes only made me nervous!

I wonder if we merged all the CR DVC threads into one how many total pages it would be.... like a gogillion:happytv:

I think its great and I am excited, although my pocket book is probably bracing for impact:rotfl2:

I'm excited about the news . The name is not the best but with the views if the Magic Kingdom, i can live with whatever name they want to call it
:cool1:

The point look like actuall resort points. Meaning the same as if it was not DVC . Am I the only one that can see that ..

And as far as the name what is wrong with it there is no offending term in it..

Boy Somepeople

Yes, you are the only one.
You continue to miss the point that the doceument has averaged the number of points over an entire year. You can do the same with the other DVC resorts, as many here have, and see that it is in line with them.

The name.. It's ok for others to have different opinions.

Nope, DVC used to be "home away from home" not sure what they advertise it as now, but not Deluxe.

However, this rumor keeps coming up and I don't think it's ever 100% true. It may be that "Deluxe" get some "extra" fast passes, but I somehow doubt they are yanking all those machines out so the rest of us can't get them.

Look! I found the proposed point chart...

Fortunately, there'll be a new banking and borrowing rule that will allow you to combine vacation points from 30 different use years into a one-week stay.

It made me think of Kingdom Hearts, the book Kingdom Keepers, and of course the Magic Kingdom. Like BroganMc- I am a Catholic Marylander- I guess if I had a different cultural experience I might be unhappy with the name. If the name made me think of Jerry Fallwell- I would definately be yucked out- but it doesn't so I'm cool.

Anyway, there are two charts I saw. One is called a "Maximum Reallocation Chart" and it lists the number of Home Resort Vacation Points needed to reserve rooms in each of the 9 DVC resorts. The Kingdom Tower had figures listed for "Studio Vacation Home," "One-Bedroom Vacation Home," "Two-Bedroom Vacation Home" and "Grand Villa Vacation Home." It was the highest of all the resorts in the one- and two-bedroom categories. A one-bedroom, for instance, says it would require 39 home resort vacation points at the Kingdom Tower (versus 36 in each of Animal Kingdom, Beach Club, WIldnerness Lodge and Boardwalk.) A two-bedroom says it would take 54 home resort vacation points (versus 46 in Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge and Boardwalk.) It was not the highest on the Studio and Grand Villa categories, and it had "N/A" for a "Suite Vacation Home" category.

I pulled my Maximum Reallocation Chart from my settlement documents.

Here are the 1 bedroom resort vacation points for each resort:
  • OKW-30
  • VB-32
  • HHI-28
  • BWV(P)-36
  • BWV(S)-30
  • VWL-36
  • BCV-36
  • SSR-32
  • AKV-34

The second chart includes this header: "Participation in certain External Exchnage Programs may be based on a week for week exchange and require the reservation and deposit of a seven consecutive Use Day period in a one-bedroom or two-bedroom Vacation Home. Therefore, in the event of reallocation, in order to exhange through the External Exchange Program a Club Member would be required (absent Banking and Borrowing) to have annual Home Resort Vacation Points of at least the following:" It then lists points needed in each of the nine resorts to reserve and deposit one- and two-bedroom vacation homes. Kingdom Tower is at 273 Home Resort Vacation Points for a one-bedroom (versus 252 for Animal Kingdom, Beach Club, Wildnerness and Boardwalk) and at 378 Home Resort Vacation Points for a two-bedroom (versus 322 for Beac Club, Wildnerness Lodge and Boardwalk.)

Here are the points for the External Exchnage for a 1 bedroom:

  • OWK-210
  • VB-224
  • HHI-196
  • BWV(P)-252
  • BWV(S)-210
  • VWL-252
  • BCV-252
  • SSR-224
  • AKV-238

Well, here is a third Catholic Marylander....however I am missing the whole point about the " Kingdom" name. Guess I need to read more of my bible! :)

My hubby thinks since it is next to the Magic Kingdom, it should be named "Walt Disney Villas" or if it is a mixed use resort "Walt Disney Villas and Resort":wizard:

Well ... I'm an atheist and my DH is Jewish. I immediately disliked the name and I honestly feel somewhat uncomfortable with the Christian "feel" to it. I think "Kingdom of Heaven" and "Kingdom Hall". I sincerely hope that they will change it to something else.

How come no-one has a problem with "Magic Kingdom", but now "Kingdom Tower" invokes some other meaning? I just don't get it. This is a tower that looks at 'Magic Kingdom" park. I read nothing else into it.

They are now called Disney Deluxe Villa rooms. So maybe they would fall into the deluxe category for FP.

I have to agree here. I initially liked the name and didn't even think of any religious connotation until it was mentioned here. Of course I know of "Kingdom Hall" and the other religious references but that's really reading into this a whole lot, IMHO. What about the "Keys to the Kingdom"? Does that bother people as well? It's Kingdom Tower....the property that overlooks the Magic Kingdom. :thumbsup2 It's taking much offense into something that has absolutely no religious affiliation.
