Kingdom Tower DVC at the Contemporary (Orlando Sentinel 2/26/08)

I have to agree here. I initially liked the name and didn't even think of any religious connotation until it was mentioned here. Of course I know of "Kingdom Hall" and the other religious references but that's really reading into this a whole lot, IMHO. What about the "Keys to the Kingdom"? Does that bother people as well? It's Kingdom Tower....the property that overlooks the Magic Kingdom. :thumbsup2 It's taking much offense into something that has absolutely no religious affiliation.

I agree with you as well. I saw no religious connotation in the name until people in this thread mentioned it. I just saw the name coming from the fact that it is in close proximity to the MK. To me kingdom has more of a political connection than a religious one. When I hear the word "kingdom", I immediately associate it with "castle" and "monarchy", not "religion". But to each his own I guess. Someone mentioned that perhaps they will build a second tower and call that one "Magic Tower", but I would think it would make more sense to name this one "Magic Tower" and the second one "Kingdom Tower". I personally don't care for the name myself, though. When I first read it I thought to myself, 'All of the creative people that work for Disney and the best name they could come up with is Kingdom Tower?!'

Four Catholic Marylanders, a Southern Baptist and an Athiest run into a DISboard thread about a mysterious new Kingdom building...

The Southern Baptist turns to the Athiest and says, "Those four Catholic Marylanders sure seem to be..."

Kingdom Towers. Butthead Towers. Stinky Towers.

I'm in for 300 points.

We have 3- 170 point contracts at SSR (one for each child to be given when they are adults).

We will buty 3-100 point contracts at Disney's Kingdom Come Towers or whatever name they chose (again, one for each of our children when they are older). As long as they have bocce ball, we're in. LOL!!

We may buy 3-100 point Hawaii contracts - we'll see how that all plays out.

I love your sense of humor. :rotfl2: I think we tend to take things too seriously. Thanks for the laugh.

I heard it and wondered why they were building a tower at the Animal Kingdom Villas, then I remembered the Magic Kingdom - Duhhh!

I like the name but think they should change the building to be more castle- like, you know turrets and battlements with flags flying.

By the way my pastor referred to the area that I grew up in as the diamond studded buckle of the Bible belt, grew up in two different denominations simultaneously, married someone of a third denomination and STILL DID NOT THINK OF ANY CHRISTIAN/JEHOVAH WITNESS CONNOTATION!!! :confused3

Maybe I need to go to church more. :3dglasses

How come no-one has a problem with "Magic Kingdom", but now "Kingdom Tower" invokes some other meaning? I just don't get it. This is a tower that looks at 'Magic Kingdom" park. I read nothing else into it.

Good points. Maybe some are over analyzing it.

Your religion really has nothing to do with it. I'd guess it depends more on if you frequently see "Kingdom Hall" signs or not in your community. I do. That's why it is the first thing I thought of when I saw "Kingdom Tower."

Not religious at all and we live in So Cal (very little religious advertising in general) but ohhhh, that name has GOT TO GO.

I hope Disney is reading this. WOW. Just add Magic to it and all will be well.

magic kingdom towers would be fine - which is what they are.

magic towers or disney towers would work too. wedisney towers would be nice.

almost glad they changed the name. the CR still is some people mind is the one before the rehab - another words the Jetsons.

they can probably sell more with a different name.

if Kingdom towers upset you - then write to Disney. It has not been announced yet - so changing the name should be easy.

disney has to know that everyone who loves WDW has seem that article. so write to Disney and DVC and say how you feel.

Shouldn't we just be happy that there will be DVC there and not worry so much about the name.

Let Disney name them what they want to name them. Regardless, of the name your either going to stay there or not. If you don't like the name or it offends you then don't stay there. More room for others to stay there. I see nothing wrong with the name. I actually think it is pretty cool and think it makes me immediately think of MK!!!!!!

Come on don't we have better things to do than worry about the name?? Be greatfull that your going to be that close to MK.

Disney gets enough people complaning all of the time how about you write Disney and THANK THEM FOR BUILDING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE REGARDLESS OF THE NAME!!!!!

Why, can't we all just be happy and not complain and nit pick each and every move that Disney makes. Either way your still going to go to the World. So Disney knows they've got you.

Now, don't go flaming me just my thoughts. I get tired of hearing all of the complaining!!!

WILL DO when disney makes the annoucement. Until then it could be something else. Been disappointed too many times to take anything seriously until Disney makes the annoucement with a beginning sales date included.

Sometimes, I just feel bad all of the complaining that Disney gets. I think they might be shocked if they got flooded with letters thanking them for all of the magic they provide all of us!!!!!!

I have to say, I was very puzzled at the name also. To me Kingdom Towers has a very definite religious connotation. I would have thought the name would have included some link to Contemporary Resort - like Contemporary Villas, etc. Kingdom Towers just seems so out of place, IMO.

Know what you mean - sometimes the only thing you heard is the bad times never the good times.

had just about 95% more good times at disney - than the 5% bad times.

you are right to need to appreciate Disney more. not to mention the wonderful CM who definitely can made or break your stay.

Very well put....also my point to my earlier post, although not spelled out. It is amazing how everyone is constantly speculating about CRV and now that it is here, they aren't happy with it....:confused3

If you are interested in buying there, I wouldn't think it would matter if they called it "The Dump at Contemporary Resort", the point is you got your wish and you will be able to stay there. I will try to stay there at least once, but it is not a must have for me......but even I have enough sense to say who cares about the name, its not like they named it "The Messiah Tower".....who cares you first thought about when you read the name.....

Below is an excerpt from the article at dvcnews.com:

Following are the Maximum Reallocation amounts for all of the Walt Disney World-based DVC resorts:

OKW BWV (Standard) BWV (Preferred) VWL BCV SSR AKV KTV
Studio 15 15 18 18 18 16 15 16
One Bedroom 30 30 36 36 36 32 36 39
Two Bedroom 40 40 46 46 46 41 45 54
Grand Villa 65 n/a 100 n/a n/a 90 99 96

Based upon the data above, it appears that the average One Bedroom villa at the Contemporary's Kingdom Tower Villas will cost 8% more than BWV(p), VWL, BCV. A Two Bedroom villa will be at least 17% higher than all other resorts.

Note that the absence of separate room categories for Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas (Value, Standard, Savanna, Concierge) suggests that the figure presented is an aggregate of all rooms that are scheduled to be declared into inventory. It is likely that the Kingdom Tower Villas will also have multiple views available, perhaps Magic Kingdom View, Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Therefore, even though the KTV Two Bedroom is listed as being 17% higher than the same room at the Beach Club Villas, a room with a Magic Kingdom view may, in fact, have a nightly cost much greater than 17% above BCV.

The complete points charts, including DVC seasons and weeknight vs. weekend stay values should be released as sales officially begin.

Well said. I'm Roman Catholic and it never crossed my mind either. You just can't keep reading into something that just is not there.

Well, so are we. But first thing my ELW said when she saw the name was that it sounded like one of the big mega churches, or, for that matter, one of the smaller MB churches around here.

Kind of off topic, sort of, but I was at one of those mega churches here a week ago at a conference. Driving out of the parking lot reminded me of leaving the Epcot lot, it was so big. I truly think instead of the names of characters for the sections of the lots, ie: Goofy, Pluto, etc, they had the prophets. You could have fit the Contemporary and the GF into the space of this place.

I think it is because of the reputation of the CR - now it is nice resort. but until 2006 when the new rehab went in - it had the worst reputation of any of the deluxes.

since alot of the people that DVC wants to sell too - haven't or won't stay at the CR - then a name change will definitely help it.

when I heard Kingdom Towers - though yea - the closest resort to the Magic Kingdom - (oh I live in Alabama - where religion governs our lives - guess why we don't have a lottery - religion).

I think that is exactly what the name is saying - the closest to the MK.

Me too- It doesn't bother me one way or the other but that is the first thing I thought of - Think I'll just call it the tower

As for having the fireworks view for NYE - I much prefer to be in the park and feel the energy that is there that night even if the lines for the buses are long afterwards. We never waited very long the times we were there though.
