Kindle Fire questions

To me, what makes the Fire a cool device is the free streaming movies, TV shows, & video content that you can access when you purchase the Prime membership.
Prime is available to students with a valid .edu email address for only $39 per year. You can stay on that plan for 4 years.

My daughter & I both have the Kindle Fire and love them. However, I haven't tried to download music to it, and we have a TON of music on our iTunes account. Is it easy to get the music onto the Fire? Any help appreciated!!

I've had my Fire for 2 weeks. It's super fast for surfing. One thing I want to pass on to others that are considering the purchase is...that you cannot turn off ordering through the device. Unlike my Mom's iPad, which requires a password. So perhaps an older child that understands this it will not be a problem, but my kids are preschoolers so when they use it for games I have to sit next to them and watch them closely or they may purchase something without my knowledge. Other than this one thing I have been very happy with it, it surfs faster on my home network than the laptop.

I asked this question on the other Kindle thread, but really fits better here. How do you get something off the device? I have some apps I don't want, plus if I download a movie or 2 for travelling, I'd want it removed afterward so it wouldn't clog up my memory.

Touch and hold down the icon and a menu will pop up. Select Remove from Device.

Does anyone know how to download movies that you have purchased that come with a digital copy? I have some one my iPad and iTunes but thats not compatible with my kids fires. I tried to call customer service and they didn't know either. I have been able to purchase and rent from amazon but when I buy a blu-ray I always get the digital copy movies and would like to use those. Thanks for any help!

I haven't done it with movies but with music, I copy it from Itunes, save it on my computer, upload to the Cloud and the download to the Fire.

Maybe there's an easier way but those steps work for me.

Just a word about all the "free books" everyone is mentioning.

Keep in mind that for an average 13 year old, she is going to be wanting to read all the stuff her friends are reading, not just the free classics like Alice in Wonderland. A much smarter move would be to give her a book budget and also to ask friends and family members to gift her with Amazon or Kindle gift cards at holidays and birthday time. That way she can buy what she wants and she won't be restricted to the freebies that she may not be interested in.

I wouldn't give my children expensive readers like Kindles unless I really wanted them to take advantage of the technology by reading as much as possible. And I wouldn't restrict them to free books. If I couldn't afford to keep them in books they wanted to read, I'd just have them use the public library to check out paper copies of books. I think it defeats the purpose of an ereader to limit kids to free books only.

I always think, "How much would I be willing to pay to increase my child's vocabulary, correct and reinforce any reading issues, tutor for the SATs during high school, etc?" That makes me happy to purchase ebooks for my daughter or give her a $25 or $50 a month budget for books.
