Kids stole the keys from the dog at POTC

Probably not. Years ago my son and I were on the incline moving sidewalk going up to the Tomorrow Land Transit when a guest about 10 people in front of us got their shoelace sucked under the edge where the sidewalk recirculates. This caused everyone to start falling and piling up on top of each other. People were screaming and no CM's even noticed. I was able to pull my son up and have him reach over the handrails and hit the red emergency shut off button. The sidewalk stopped moving and CM's came running. They weren't concerned about people who were getting smooshed, only with who hit the stop button! They said it would take 15 min to reset the ride (big deal!), it only took 10 seconds! No one was hurt but a lot of people were scared and upset. Had I thought about it I would have complained to guest services.

Something similar happened to us last year. The CM at the bottom kept sending people up, even though there was no more room. The people at the top started running into each other and yelling, but the CM at the bottom didn't notice. FINALLY the CM up top did and went to go stop the sidewalk... But apparently she didn't even know what button to push!! I get that sometimes they're preoccupied with other things but seriously, not knowing how to stop the sidewalk is a HUGE safety concern.

I know it's not the proper reaction, especially since my aim is horrible :lmao: and I'd hate to destroy my own property trying to stop idiot thugs, but I'd probably be tempted to hurl one of my heavier camera lenses at them.
Using that lens to photograph the activities would be a better use of your expensive gear, and could be used by WDW to ban the bozos from the parks...

I wonder when WDW will put their banned people in a face-recognition system...

I teach high school and I see this type of behavior every day. It boils down to a complete lack of respect for anything or anyone...the world revolves around them and Mama agrees with him/her. Parents approve of this behavior by never correcting this behavior and pitching a fit when someone else corrects this behavior. Sad that it has now extended to WDW.

I would have taken pictures of them while they were doing it. That might have actually deterred them if they weren't aware of the ride cameras.

Yeah, but forget the pictures. DH or I would have used the "video mode" on our cameras. The entire thing woulda been caught in action. Grrrrr

Has anyone checked Ebay to see if the keys are up for sale yet?

If this story is true then I wonder if these guys were friends with a CM at PoTC? Someone who would conveniently "look the other way". I find it very hard to believe these clowns could have gotten out of the boat repeatedly to walk around and successfully gotten BACK IN their boats without having gone for a swim or be seen by the CM watching the cameras. You can't even sneeze in there without the CM "voice of God" reminding you to mind your business.

This is a hard one to believe. There aren't that many places where you could get out of the boat without getting in the water.

I teach college mathematics and "deal" with 18-19 year olds all the time. I don't think it is so much of entitlement as it is of being raised without having any boundaries or limitations put on them as kids. I can always pick those kids out in about a day.

They just don't know how to behave and it is so sad.........

My experience with people like this isn't so much the being raised without boundaries, but the kids where the leash was too short growing up and now that they are out without mommy and daddy watching they turn into complete idiots. I think every kid does this, but usually when they are about 14, and they learn from it, out grow it, and move on.
That being said - don't worry OP, I can't see Disney going to the expense of putting lap bars on all the boats just because the keys went missing. It would be much cheaper to just fix the sensors.

Several years ago my uncle chaperoned a group of teenage boys at Disneyland. They started climbing out of the POTC boats and the CM's saw them on the security cam and immediately told them to get back in the boat or the ride would be shut down. I would assume similar security is in place at the POTC in WDW. Probably even more sophisticated than it was when my uncle chaperoned. Either the sensors failed (as the CM reported) or someone in security was asleep at the switch.

Maybe the Kingdom Keepers hacked the system and deterred their attention elsewhere. Maybe the boys stealing the keys were really overtaker DHIs. :scared:

Why in the world would I make a story like this up? A few people have indicated they, felt this wasn't true. I donT know what else to tell you other than what the three of us saw, with our own eyes, reported, and a swarm of Disney CMs/security took info from us and tried to find the guys after.

Would love an update from anyone who is there to know if items are missing from the ride, most notably the keys.

I agree with all the angry sentiment already expressed. I'm getting tired of more and more confining restraints being put on rides due to the 0.0001% of pure idiots that do things like this. Pretty soon we'll have over the shoulder restraints on Small World!

Don't let it get to you. I shared a conversation I had with a director of transportation after my last trip and some people (maybe the same ones) accused me of making it up. I am just not that creative. I don't want attention, least of all on these boards with a bunch of strangers, that badly. Haters are gonna hate. ;)

Yes. I took pictures with my cell phone, in the dark, with a boat seperating us. Come on....if you choose not to believe me, fine. I have zero reason to come here and share a made up story on an attraction.

Isn't there usually a CM stationed in the corner at a podium right by where they dog with the keys scene is? Or is that at a different point on the ride?
