Kids free upgrade question

Hello. We are booking the kids play free promo for our family. My stepsons are 9 and 7 years old and this deal easily saves us the most money. We are booking the dining package as well, and that is what I have a question about.

Last year the dining plan did not work for our, at the time, 8 year old. Just wasn't enough food for him ordering off the kids menu. We told him when we went back he would be ordering off the adult menu. I was under the impression we could just pay the difference and upgrade him to the adult plan. When I called to book, the rep said we would have to mark him as a 10 year old for this to be possible, which takes away his free park tickets.

I know the rep was probably right, but I wanted to make sure it was true from everyone here before looking at alternatives. Is there no other way to just upgrade his meal plan? Can I do it at check in?

Thanks for any help, I did a search so sorry if this has been asked before.:)

The only way to get him on the adult DDP is to call him an adult, which would mean no free park tickets under the kids play deal. The CM was entirely correct.

And you can't do ANYTHING with the DDP at check-in - add, drop, change - nothing. All DDP activities must be done 72 hours in advance or longer.

I would take the free ticket deal, and pay OOP for your dining. Or get the DDP and just pay OOP to get him extra food from the menu if the kids' meal isn't enough.

When you book at a DVC location for 1-4 days and then transfere to another DVC location what happens to your dinning plan? We are planning for a 7 day trip with a move to the Animal Kingdom on day 4-7. Is this one package? Or do I need to have two dinning plans?

2 resorts, 2 reservations, 2 dining plans (and 2 sets of ticket purchase requirements too to get the DDP).

Could he order a children's menu item and then add some other food, appetizer, side, etc, that you would pay OOP?

I agree with Vicki. Keep his age as-is on your reservation and pay for your food OOP instead of buying a dining plan. At buffets and all you can eat restaurants you'll pay for him as a child (which he is) but at restaurants with menus you'll have the option of him choosing what he wants and paying for exactly what he orders. At CS locations you'll have that same option of a kids meal when he wants and a regular meal when he'd rather that. At this stage, paying OOP will give you so much more flexibility and be cheaper for you.

Thanks Vickie-
That helps :)
