HeatherSue - my most helpful tip - go to WalMart and buy a new machine. Sorry, that's all I've got. I DO suggest the Brother i6000. It's a great machine!

Ok; talented mommies.....show me outfits with the kids/flags material. I love this fabric! I'm at work right now but will show Avery's outfits from our last trip when I get home. ;)

I've got a ways to go before I can show an outfit! I'm still washing, drying and ironing!

Does anyone know where I can find white fabric with red dots? I know I've seen some, but I can't remember where & no one around here seems to have any.

I've seen some at Hobby Lobby before but just about everywhere has the reverse of that (red with white dots). I also think you can buy it off of :wizard:. Look up Michael Miller, I think he makes one that is called "dumb dot" or "minnie dot".

HELP!!! I am in the middle of making a dress and my sewing machine stopped working. I was sewing along when the needle got caught up in the bobbin thread and wouldn't move up or down. I had to cut the thread to get the fabric out. Now, the needle won't catch the bobbin thread. I even made a handy-dandy video of it for you all to watch on youtube. It even has 2 messages from Tessa in it. Please watch it and tell me if I'm doing something wrong!!!

Cute video! Sorry I can't help you though! I agree with everyone else, redo everything, blow, dust and try sewing for a little while. Is there a repair shop nearby? I know sometimes if it is an easy fix that you just overlooked they will fix it on the spot for free but .... It stinks that you're in the middle of a dress though! I have been known to be a total cheapskate (so sorry if this offends anyone!) and buy something and return (like a sewing machine if you really really really need to finish the dress) it at Wal Mart or Costco. Good luck and tell us if you figure it out!

HeatherSue - the timing is off on the machine. What this means is, the bobbin's catch is not timed properly with when the needle comes down, so the bobbin cannot catch the upper thread. This is going to require professional fixing. It should be a simple fix, but many repair people charge a flat fee, so I don't know how much it's going to cost. sorry. :(

After seeing all of the beautiful Cinderella dresses here and one I originally saw on :wizard: by a seller whose name is a famous painting....I am going to tackle one. I know some of you said that the pillowcases are too thin and they show through so I bought some plain white fabric to put under the face. Does that sound like it will work? Also, which Cinderella did you use, the one by herself or the one on the other side with all three princesses? Also, one last question, for those of you who saw the Cinderella dress on :wizard: or know who I am talking about, some of her dresses look to be variations on the stripwork jumper from YCMT but much "fluffier or twirlier". I'm sure I could adapt the pattern and add more strips but do you think she does 1 1/2 times what the pattern calls for or double? Any help is so appreciated! TIA!

Heather, I don't have any other suggestions. I would just take it out and start all over -- getting every little piece of fuzz out, rethreading, the works. I have done the same thing to my machine but it usually corrects itself. Just triple check that everything is where it goes and all threads are in the right direction. Good luck!

And yes, Tessa is a total doll!!

THANK YOU!! That is exactly what I was trying to say, but doing so very badly!!! The cheapest I found for around here was $80 to have mine fixed. I hate to say it, but it may just be time for a new machine. I may be able to help you out there though!

Heather, My mom used to have that exact same sewing machine and I used to sew on it all the time. One thing that I noticed in your video is that the thread on your needle is looped back through itself. Straighten that out, then check and see if any broken threads are caught anywhere in the bobbin casing area, then take the bobbin out of the casing, make sure there isn't any dust or broken strings, then put the bobbin back in. Then pull your thread out and re-thread through the machine. This would usually work for me. I used to do that all of the time with my mom's machine and after she wouldn't let me use it for "breaking" it I figured out how to fix it myself so I would be able to keep using it. Good Luck.

And how cute is you daughter??

I've not finished my Cinderella dress yet, but am in the process now. I used the image of Cinderella by herself for my dress, and I did exactly as you said - I lined the image with a piece of light fabric so that the pattern of the base fabric wouldn't show through.

These fabrics get me too - i just cut a pattern upside down!!! I was SO upset, luckily I had bough just enough extra fabric to make it work!

I did the same thing last weekend!! I felt like such a dork!

Oh my gosh!! Your daughter is absolutely adorable!!!

I have things like that happen to my machine too. My best advice is to take the bobbin out and put it back in and then rethread the top. This cures 90% of my problems.

I need to be sewing, but you would not believe the carrots dh & the girls just pulled out of the garden. Back when we should have had carrots they were all puny little shrivled things & I figured that we just wouldn't have any this year. He just bruoght in 4 HUGE carrots & said there more still out there. I can't believe they've survived the cold. :confused3

Heather - I had the same problem with my machine a few months ago. Except I kept tugging on it and cracked the drop in bobbin case!! I tried fixing it myself and when that didn't work I took it into a repair shop. Dang metal plate wasn't on right! It cost me $15 (plus the cost of the new case)

Gosh thanks for the welcome! :grouphug: I've heard GREAT things about all of you! Honestly...jham talks about nothing else...hehe! I'm totally on board!
And, jham, I must say I'm pretty jealous about your THIRD major Disney trip in a year! AGH! I was, however, lucky enough to have SP to DW and visited more times than I could possibly begin to count...since, I, unfortunately, lived in South Florida for 4 years.... luckily I moved to California and had SP to DL for 3 years...it's been TWO years since I've visited though and I am READY to see the mouse! I completely discounted my children and my husband there...they're pretty excited too, but, who's really obsessed here? CAN'T WAIT!

Heather, I've had very similar problems w/my machine, and the only thing that has worked long term (after taking out bobbin...etc....) is only using 100% cotton thread....which bites sometimes, but! Until I get a new machine....my dream is a serger now....thanks again, jham! hehe :lovestruc

LOL!! How did you know I was on walmart.com right now, perusing the sewing machines?

Jacob says, "Maybe it is broken." Helpful, I know!

I would completely start over. Take the bobbin out, blow and brush all around. Rethread the bobbin (make sure the thread is going the right way), leave a long lead, put it back in. Make sure the foot is up. That's all I've got. Tessa sure is cute: help us!

Good luck!
That Jacob is destined to be a sewing machine repairman! :rotfl:

No problem! Lydia actually insisted that I attempt the Ariel one today. I have never even made a bow before! I have also discovered that I have no hot glue gun skills! It was not good! But, it was kind of fun!
Is my neice ADORABLE or what!!!???!!!! I LOVE that child!!! :lovestruc
I wish I could help you out! I am afraid that you might have thrown that bobbin thingy out of whack. (Sorry for all the technical sewing terms :rotfl2: ) I really don't know though. I did that once with my 1987 Singer, and the needle hit the bobbin thingy instead of going where it was suppose to. It cost a lot to fix it. But, hopefully, that isn't the problem at all, and someone will come up with a great easy solution for you!
I'm wondering if Aunt Penny would look at it for me. Henry said it couldn't hurt to ask, but I'm thinking that depends on her mood!

I have no advice Heather but Tessa was so cute! I love that you made us a video! My only advice, keep sewing something and maybe it will just catch eventually!
As of right now, the video has 38 views. I'm assuming that's from all of you guys! How cool!

OMG - that was hysterical!!!! Tessa's gonna be a star!!!

I've had that problem with mine in the past, but darn it if I don't know what I did to fix it. One time, my whole bobbin casing in the bottom got off-center, and I had to kinda shove it back into place. Once I just put the cover back on after several "attempts" to get it to pick up that bobbin thread and just started sewing, and wouldn't you know it that the bobbin thread started on it's own.

I don't know, but just keep playing with it, and good luck!!!

I had the whole bobbin case pop out and I figured out how to put it back in, but this seems to be a worse problem!

DS5 loved it ;) I think Tessa has a fan!
Your DS5 has a fan in Tessa, too. Uh-oh!!

My aunt used to fix sewing machines, but she can be a bit grumpy if you ask her to do anything. I'm thinking of doing it, though. I would NEVER return something after I used it! :rolleyes1

That's what I thought might be wrong with it! I was thinking "it's the timing". Then, I thought "No, that's a car thing." But, apparently it's a sewing machine thing, too. I'll have to check into getting it fixed. Thank you! I don't think the machine is worth much, but it's a sentimental thing. My DH bought it for me for my 17th birthday. Unlike some people (Deann), I get attached to stuff!

Thank you all for your compliments on my little cutie pie. She is pretty cute, I must admit!

Does anyone know where I can find white fabric with red dots? I know I've seen some, but I can't remember where & no one around here seems to have any.

The white with red dots is a Michael Miller fabric, available at quilt stores. I have a 4 x 40 inch strip if you would like it.

Here is the Valentine's outfit for DD6 (still have to make DD8). I only changed fabric 3 times (not a good idea when you're using the quilt shop fabric).

And my BABY turned 4. He told me he wasn't my baby anymore :sad1:. I know it's the wrong mouse, but he had fun.

I noticed that needle thing after I watched the video. Unfortunately, that wasn't the problem either! I think camelotcats was right, it must be the timing!

Here are the directions for the Ariel clippie. They were posted here by someone on Hipgirlclips.com
http://hipgirlclips.com/forums/1st-instruction-contest/2696-little-mermaid-instructions.html

But, here is her direct link.

I will add it to the bookmarks too.

Cool! Now I can work on something until I get the sewing machine fixed. Or, gulp, buy a new one.

I would never tug on anything! You could break your machine that way! :rolleyes1

I really want a serger, too! Teresa bought one at WalMart for $50 on clearance! She is always finding the good deals.

I would suggest what everyone else has about taking the bobbin case out and playing with it. Tessa was too cute, especially calling out to the Disboutiquers.

That outfit is absolutely adorable! Great job on the appliques!! Your son is too cute, too. It was bittersweet when Tessa turned 4. It sounds so much older than 3!

LOVE this! Great job!

If anyone wants to see more videos of cute disboutiquer kids, go to
http://www.expotv.com/search?query=britax+regent+car+seat&type=videos.
The 3 reviews of the Britax Regent car seat are all by disboutiquers (me, Teresa, and jessica52877). You can see Tessa in true form making stupid faces while I talk! You can also see cute little Dallas and my cute big sister. If you do a search for Britax Boulevard, you can see Sawyer! We all have other reviews on there with our kids in 'em.

Thanks, but I need quite a bit more than that. I'll check out some of the quilt shops. i know there has to be more than a few in Little Rock, but I've so far managed to NOT go there. :rotfl: I need to save the money I know I would spend. ;)

That's a really cute outfit. I love the fabrics.
