I have a question for anyone who has done decoupage jeans before. Do you heatnbond all of the squares, or do you pin the squares? I am going to try a pair tonight!!

I used pins and I have the holes in my fingers to prove it! I think I followed LisaZoe's directions on Teresa's bookmarks and she pins them. I obviously am all thumbs so next time I think I will heat n bond them (lite not ultra!).

I love the pic in your signature. Your daughter is so beautiful: she looks like a child model to me.

Okay, well, I'm definitely not a pro, I've done exactly ONE pair of jeans...but here's what I did... I did pin, but I only pinned a couple of squares at a time. I didn't know how else to sew each piece on...Sew a couple squares, pin another couple on. Sew those couple and then pin a couple more.

Also, open the jeans up more than you think you need to. I think next time I'm going to take them all the way up. Trying to wrestle a pair of jeans and pins and squares when the jeans don't lay straight is a challege. I'm not that great of a sewer anyway, so I really needed all the help I could get.:)

I wonder if you've all experienced this....I found that after a few wearings the knees were starting to wear. My dd5 wore them to school and they do alot on the floor, circle time, puzzles, etc...any thoughts on how to minimize that?

Good luck and have fun...I certainly defer to the pros here on what's the perfect way to do them, like I said, my experience consists of one whole pair. I do intend on making more for christmas, so I'll be interested to see what everybody else posts......

Good luck!
Maggi

Stephres & Weloveprincesses - Thanks for the advice. I'm torn, it would be easier to fuse them to the jeans first, but I don't want the jeans to get too stiff. Anyone use heatnbond? I guess I'm wondering how stiff will it make the jeans? Yeah, I learned on one of my appliques about opening the seam up all the way - too far is better than not enough! Good too know about the knees!! DD is in Kindergarten and I'm sure they are on the floor alot.

Hello Maggi,
Thanks for jumping in, it is always fun to add some new people to the mix!!! Welcome and hope to see you back soon.

Thanks! I figured I'm here almost every day anyway, may as well start posting. :) I don't dare be gone too long or this crazy thread goes nuts and it's impossible to catch up!

Hi everyone, I'm back from Disneyland! We had a great trip and I will post photos later (still waiting on yours Misty!) I've loved all the outfits I've seen! It took me forever to catch up, but it was fun seeing all of your halloween costumes! I can't wait to see more Christmas stuff! I am glad I decided at the last minute to make DS5 Luke a Luke Skywalker (episode 4) costume. As you can see in the photos he was chosen (on our first attempt thank goodness) at the Jedi Training Academy. He thought he was pretty cool!

He's a cutie! He looks like he was made to be there!

Hey I need some ideas from you guys. Next week DS has surgery and we will be at Scottish Rite at least 4 days. I need something to work on there to keep my mind off focusing on worring. I can't knit or antyhing like that. Any ideas? I was almost thinking about hand stitching a few appliques together and then attatching them to shirts or whatever after I got home. Would that even work?

The only thing I can think of is like making hairbows or beaded socks....I don't know anything about appliqueing for clothes (yet!) so I don't know if the hand work would work. When the girls are at dance class I've been taking socks that I bead. Other than that I'm not much help! I'm sorry you have to go to the hosp....I hope all turns out well.

You can't find a pattern with long sleeve dresses. Maybe for bigger girls, but not for infants. I'll probably have to frankenpattern a fru-fru dress. I like what you've done. I wonder if I can do this for a onesize? Hmmm....... I have the one Princess fabric, but I like the other one to. Great job.

Yes, you can do that to a onesie. I just did one for DD5 and I didn't even cut the tshirt that I used. When I finish the jeans (hopefully tonight) I'll post a picture. It will be my first (finished) Christmas custom!! I have soooo many outfits that I want to do for the Holidays!! DS will even get a few outfits!! :cool1:

I think you can do that with a onesie, too. Just attach the fabric onto the onesie where you want it - waist or empire. At least, that's what I would do. Doesn't mean it would work, though. :rotfl:

When I was a kid my mom used to put the iron on patches on the wrong side of each knee when the jeans were new. I guess I was tough on clothes too. I think she got the idea from a pair of boy's jeans that came that way already, but I fussed about wearing boy clothes, and after that she did it to all my girl jeans, lol. It must have made a difference in the wear on them, because I don't remember any holes after that, just the inside patches. She used to be so creative with her fixes though, I remember lots of hearts on my knees. :)

It works, I've done it, and it's actually pretty easy. You just cut the onsie where you want the skirt to go, put the gathered skirt over the bottom section and baste, then making sure you have your right sides together, put the top part back on and stitch. If you don't have a serger or stretch stitch on your regular sewing machine, be sure to use a small zig-zag and double stitch, just to be sure you have a little give for the knit. You'll want to make sure you've allowed for the seams, possibly going up to the next size onsie because you'll lose an inch in the length if you're using a 1/2" seam allowance. I like to finish the hem on the dress part before putting it all together, it's easier to manage before you get the onsie in there.

Fabric row is a mess unless you know what you want and you know someone in the shop. Years ago I got fabric from one of the shops, but I had to ask for a contact person who then helped me. I made lots of formals then. But to try to find something else....forget it! It is too overwhelming and like you said, you can't move!! And there is now such thing as browsing...everything is shoved somewhere out of view.

AI duPont Childrens Hosp is where DGS Nicholas goes when he is hospitalized. DD Molly had the choice between there and CHOP and duPont is where she chose. He's been hospitalized twice now with his asthma and he had a sleep study and reflux test with the wire down into his stomach...poor little guy...but everyone there is so nice. Molly lives in Springfield, Delaware County PA...

I find I do better driving to Walmart to find Disney fabric. Other than that it's Joann's. And I buy a lot on the internet too.

Another Delaware person here! I did my pediatric rotations for nursing school at A.I. I agree it's a great hospital. My 3 yo broke his arm pretty severely this summer. We only live about 10 minutes from Christiana Hospital so I made the mistake of taking him to the ER there.

Big mistake! They sent us home with a visibly crumpled, broken arm. They didn't set it, cast it or even give him any stronger pain medicine than tylenol. Our pedi sent us to A.I. where they were wonderful. Had his pain managed and arm set right away. Now I know to just take the extra 30 minutes and drive to A.I. if we possibly can.

Have any Delawareans been to Calico Corners on 202?(the one on Kirkwood Hwy went out of business). I know it is interior fabrics but I'm helping Dsis make curtains for her new place. We just haven't found anything at Wal-Mart or Joanns. And Calico Corners is the only other fabric store in the area, right?

Isn't it funny the ordinary stuff we remember from childhood?

I thought about patches under the fabric that I've decoupaged on the jeans. Do you think that would work? Or maybe just putting two layers of fabric on the knees. I also considered the fact that maybe the fabric I bought wasn't all that expensive...maybe if I sprung for something that was more expensive it wouldn't wear so easily. ha.

It's been forever since I've taken the time to read and post. So many new and awesome stuff pictured here lately. I was about 200 pages behind, so I haven't seen all of it, but someday I'm going to try. :)

Rebecca was a "Pirate Princess" for Halloween, the patterns came from YCMT, and the whole costume was such a hit with her that I need to make it over in fabrics more appropriate for church, lol The tiara came from the gift shop at POTC exit.

Hopefully that worked, its been so long since I posted a picture, I forgot how to do it!

I was actually born in Wilmington and remember going to Joy Trimming as a kid. I know it's been gone for a lot of years but that store will always hold memories for me, the walls of those little brown boxes of buttons, they were like treasure boxes. The feathers and the rows and rows of sparkly trims on those oval spools... *sniff*

I always wonder if Casapula Subs is still there, just thinking about that place I can smell it.

My mom grew up on South Van Buren and my dad was from New Castle. Mom went to St. E's and dad went to William Penn.

I can still find my way around there even now and I wasn't even a driver when my grandmother passed.

I also remember going to Wilmington Dry Goods. My grandmother worked at Strawbridge & Clothier and my great grandfather worked for the railroad out of Wilmington.

My mom's dad worked for DuPont and my dad's dad was a VP at Wilmington Trust back in the day when you could work your way up from teller to VP. I don't know that you could do that anymore.
It amazes me how much has changed there over the years when I drive through.

Ok, it didn't work, and even with the edit, I couldn't make it work...any suggestions?

She is absolutely precious BTW I love the outfit!

Next time just copy the URL from photobucket and then click the image button on your post (little yellow button) and paste the URL there. HTH

Thanks! I had thought that's what I did, but it didn't worked like I thought it should. Like I said, I was out of practice. :)

Thanks for the ideas. I think I am going to go walk around Hobby Lobby tomorrow and see if I can find something to do lol. :rotfl: Thank you for the well wishes. Things should be fine this surgery is to make things easier for him in the long run so it is a positive thing just has a lot of worries attatched to it. ;)

I had to go back and look at which one you copy on photobucket because I myself could not remember. ;) It is direct link, I think you used the HTML tag. It is all confusing. :)

I haven't been to Calico Corners for a long time. There is some sort of Deco Fabric place in Midway Shopping Center on Kirkwood Hwy. I haven't been in there either.

Christiana Hospital has it's moments. I had a friend here from Texas and they couldn't find out what was wrong with her. She had an attack here and Christiana found she had some sort of hernia. On the other hand, my BIL works at DuPont's and something blew up and he has some bad chemical burns on his back, head, arm and lungs. When he went to his Dr. the next day, the Doc said CHR didn't even use the right gauze pads. The Children's Hospital isn't perfect either. I know there a big stink with some Heart Drs. a couple of years ago.

My Mom is a city girl herself. Casapulas is still in Elsmere. My grandparent's had a sub shop around the corner from there. I remember going to Dry Goods to. My Grandmother retired from Sears on the other side of town. Half my family works at DuPont's (and I'm a Jeff Gordon fan). I've family at Wilmington Trust. My Grandfather used to be a engineer for the railroad, and later a conductor (when he was closer to retiring). Sussex County and it's growth is what amazes me!!

Just a thought. . . if you want the edges of the patches to fray a little I wouldn't use heat n' bond. Or you could use and leave a 1/4 inch border with out the heat n' bond. I don't think it makes the jeans too stiff. The stabilizer makes things even more stiff and I wouldn't use it at all.

These are my girls in their Halloween creations!

Grace and Claire at the pumpkin patch - I got the idea for the shirt from a Target shirt last year. This year, of course, everything was homemade!

IMG_4422.jpg

This was their Halloween outfit that they wore for school on Halloween. I need some help with shirring. It didn't turn out the way I had hoped on the sleeves. Oh well! I finally got these shirts done after about 6 hours of sewing the day before Halloween. This might be the definition of crazy, sewing for 6 hours for shirts that your kids will wear once! I also found the peasant shirt (from YCMT) to run a little short in the sleeves and in the body if anyone is making them for their kids (my girls are tall and I went a size up for both of them but they were still a little short).

IMG_4473.jpg
[/IMG]

They were Minnie Mouse for Halloween this year. Their Grandmother, my MIL made the costumes for the girls. She's always done it in the past since I didn't know how to sew and she wanted to do it this year even though I learned so OKAY! Sounds good to me!

IMG_4494.jpg
[/IMG]

Here they are with our neighbor boy out trick or treating! I did make the treat bags though. I'm getting better at appliqueing but still no expert!

IMG_4478.jpg
[/IMG]

Although there is no sewing involved with this last picture, I just wanted to show the INSANE number of pumpkins we carve every year. Just to be clear, this is my DH's idea, not mine! Twelve pumpkins this year is way too many! The kids love it though.

IMG_4374.jpg
[/IMG]Okay, I tried editing and it still didn't work. I'm trying one more time.....

Claire, DD2, and Grace, DD4. The t-shirt was an idea I copied off of a Target Halloween shirt last year. I appliqued it and added the bow and button eyes. No Target stuff this year!
