What???.... No holiday outfits yet?...;)

I started working on some Holiday things.

Not complete, but I thought I would give you guys a sneak peak!:goodvibes

Detail of stitch treatment on hem of top skirt, and appliqued holly leaves!

Still have button holes, and all those "holly berry" buttons to sew on, and a final clean up of loose threads to snip.

It's too late, time for bed. Hope to finish this and something else tomorrow.

Oh wow, that is too beautiful! She is going to look like a princess in it! I actually like to dress my girls in white b/c I figure if they get something on it, I can use my clorox bleach pen and get rid of it.

I've decided to jump in and say hi. I've been lurking the last few weeks (creepy, really, when you think about it.) reading posts and admiring all the great things you all have created. I'm a sahm of two dd's and a stepdd, ages 5, 9 and 17. We have two dogs, a border collie/shepard mix named Goldie (9) and a beagle/pug mix the girls and I lovingly refer to as BadDog Bob. He's about one year old, hence the name. DH has a different name for him, but I don't think I can post that!:lmao:

I used to quilt many moons ago, before kids, and was even delusional enough to think I could keep up with it and made a few after the girls were born, but alas, it wasn't meant to be and I haven't sewed anything except the necessary play costume or halloween costume in several years.

I'm taking the dd's 5 and 9 to WDW the second week of December-it will be our seventh trip there and fifth over the Christmas holiday. I'm planning on matching twirl skirts and decoupage jeans for the trip, hoping the weather will cooperate and knowing that I'd better get a move on soon...I have yet to start. I also have grand delusions of finishing lap quilts with their favorite characters (Ariel and Tink) for the plane ride. Plus, I've started their personalized scrapbooks to capture autographs on this year. I have BIG plans.

I had resisted posting, since I wasn't sure how much I would actually post, but after realizing I've been on here reading posts almost every day for the last month or so, I decided that I may as well....

I have no clue how to multi-post, upload pictures or insert siggy's so pardon me while I learn. I'll figure it out, because you haven't seen bad hair until you've seen my five year old in the morning.... and I promise to not apologize!

We're out by DFW Aiport in Texas, I see several people are also from around these parts....my husband is a native from Fort Worth, I'm transplanted from Michigan, over twenty years now. All the girls were born here too.

DH left for business out of town for the next 5 days, so I'm sure I'll be here often...hoping to get to know you all better!

Maggi

Welcome Maggi! I'm in McKinney. Get to sewing and sharing!

Ok, I know that it's taken FOREVER for me to post pictures, but here are a few, and I'll get some more up soon.

These are pictures of the outfits that Nana made for the girls for the pumpkin patch and MNSSHP!!

Very cute!

The green I used isn't quite as soft as the nylon chiffon of a Kaiya Eve pettiskirt but I think that's mostly because the green has glitter on it. It's still fairly soft, though, and Zoe didn't mention any itch issues. The fabric isn't like tulle because it seems to hold it's shape much better after wear and it doesn't tear nearly as easily as tulle. It's a knit, too, so it won't unravel like woven fabric.

This is why I've hesitated buying one for Zoe. She now has a Kaiya Eve we got in trade as well as the one I made for her. I'm planning to make some skirts or dresses for her to wear over the pettiskirts for Christmas and will do more for spring. I haven't decided if she'll be allowed to wear them to school but we might try the green one and see how it goes. I'm mostly concerned that it will get in the way when she's trying to play during recess.

Yeah, that's my thought too about school, although I know if my girls had them they would want to wear them as much as possible. I hadn't really thought about wearing them under a skirt to give it some poof but I like that idea a lot! Hmm.

I love all of the gorgeous creations everyone has come up with! WOW! I can only aspire to be as talented. Tom I love the holiday dress!!!!

I must be the slowest at completing projects  I just finished my second sewing project and would love to hear feedback from the experts out there! I am pairing this top with black capris. DH cut me off at the knees taking the picture. Should I add anything to the capris? Would that be overdoing it? Or leave them as is? :confused3

pinkmickeydot-1.jpg

I agree with scrapnmom, leave the capris plain. It's a cute top and you have the best smile!

And here's my latest creation. Empire waist dresses.

The ruffles at the bottom of the dresses took way too long. I need a ruffler foot! Other than that, they were very simple.

Wow, those dresses have some serious twirl factor there! My dd5 would totally dig those! I have some of the princess fabric that's all princesses, no background and I was thinking there was waaayyy to much yellow in it, but that pink really tones the yellow down alot! Thanks for sharing. And those girls are cute. I used to be blond like that...sniff...then I had kids. Now I'm still blond like that, but I wouldn't say it's natural anymore.

Welcome Maggi! I'm in McKinney. Get to sewing and sharing!

Thanks! I actually got NOTHING done today, between having dd5 sick and dh leaving town today. Sigh. I vowed I'd at least get my fabric ironed tonight to start on a quilt top for tomorrow. I know it's not clothing, but I have to work up to that. :)

We used to go to a quilt shop in McKinney. YEARS ago. It was a cute little place on Main st. - the name escapes me. As does most stuff these days. I swear with every birth of my children part of my brain got sucked out along with the kid. That's my excuse anyway.

Hi Everyone,

Anyone live near Philly? I went to "fabric row" today, and I have to say I was disappointed. Like really no disney fabric - lots of furniture fabric and fancy stuff - and then the cotton stuff was like 7.99/yard. I guess I was thinking tons of cool fabric and cheap prices~~oh well,,,,did I miss anything??????

Wendy:confused3

I don't live in Philly or even in the area but I do make a twice yearly pilgrimage to JoMar's biannual sales. I usually hit two of them in Philly and then the Landsdale store. I used to live up that way for a very short time 11 years ago butI used to get most of my fabrics for renaissance costuming up there during the January and July sales.

You may not find much licensed fabrics, it's hit or miss there for those as well. But I can tell you that when I found a bolt of Black Watch plaid linen for $4 a yard and made a few calls to people in my guild, I came home with all 15 yards on that bolt. :) I sitll have linen left over from the last time I was up there.

Hope that helps.

I'm such a geek I had to go get my atlas to see where you might be...we never went too far south when I was a kid...we were more of Mackinac Island/Great Lakes sort of people. I'm not too familiar with southern Mi. Lansing's about as far south as we went. Unless, of course, we were taking our annual trip to CEDAR POINT!!! No, we don't need to revisit THAT discussion again! :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone for the welcome's. I do feel welcome!!!
Maggi

hehe, maybe we saw each other on our annual Cedar Point visits! When you posted the name of the town where you grew up, I had to do a search for it, and then I had to see how far it was from where I live! I'm a GEEK too!! Well, your hometown is 2 hours and 14 minutes from where I live, according to Google.

Well, I'm off to bed.

Don't forget to change your clocks tonight!

Nighty Night Teresa!

I actually went and got fabric today! I had fun. I got some Disney Christmas fabric to make something for DD for our up coming tirp. I picked up some Olivia the pig fabric to make a dress for a friend's little girl. Then I had the misfortune of finding some Parisian Michael Miller fabric that I just HAD to have so I could make a cute poodle/paris/eiffel tower top for DD. That fabric store is amazingly wonderful and I never get out of there without spending a little something. :)

I popped over to Joann's looking for fall fabric, which I found absolutely NONE, but I did find Chrstimas fabric in both Disney and Peanuts characters.

I picked up some scrapbooking stuff because I'm working on a scrapbook for my inlaws from our first family trip to Disney in March 2006. I'm just now getting a little 8 x 8 album done for them. I'll give it to them when we celebrate Christmas with them the end of the month back down at Disney.

I did manage to get all the pages cut and inserted into their sheet protectors, I cropped a bunch of pictures, I've still got a bit to go but I don't think I'll have an issue getting that project done before we get there. I'm going to get the last of the pictures I need done tomorrow so I can finish it this week and get some work done around here.

I'm going to go to bed...

Well, I'm finally caught up! Yeah! I was only like 40 pages behind! We move fast! If I didn't mention your outfits, I'm sorry! I loved everything that I saw and was commenting on way too much! I just tried to upload photos to photobucket and got booted off for some reason. I've got pictures of my finished Halloween outfits that I need to show and the girls costumes. It will have to wait till tomorrow I guess. Good night everyone!

Morgan went to her first Ren faire today. At first she was a little unsure, but quickly got the hang of it.

Hey everyone -

Thanks for all the terrific comments on Nana's newest Halloween creations for the girls. She is doing better, and much to my dismay, back to sewing again (even though she should probably still be resting that arm). Her orthopedic doctor said that my (and my sister's) suggestion to boost her calcium while she's healing has definitely helped and her arm is healing nicely and she won't need surgery.

And, like I said, she just sent me an email tonight of a turkey appliqued t-shirt that she made for the girls for Thanksgiving. So, she's at it again!!!

Oh, here's what she sent to me today, so the girls now have something for "turkey day".

oh cuttttteee

Here are the Minnie twirl skirts and tops. I posted the skirts before. Now that I finished the tops, I KNEW you'd want to see the finished product!

Does anyone know how I add my ticker to my siggy? I couldn't even put my boo pumpkin it would not let me and i even had my hubby try. Any help would be great. TIA.

Have a nice night all. :grouphug:

Hey no laughing! Okay, I guess you can since I already laugh at us!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We are trying to see how many extremes when can do. First, born and raised in California. Then we moved to Germany! Then Hawaii, and now Alaska! Talk about seeing the world!!

People generally don't believe us when we talk about those temperatures. The record low here is -66. Nice huh? We have a lot of layers in very good quality materials. Then we basically run from the car to the house (But careful, the ice is slippery!!). We have autostarts in our cars so they run while you are inside the store. I pretty much just stay in if at all possible. The kids go out to recess until -20. And poor dh works with helicopters so he's outside a lot. One day at work last winter with the wind chill factored in it was -88 :scared1: and they were outside working. Insanity!!

2 more years and I'm outta here. I love Alaska, but the interior is just too cold for me to be in this area permanently!

I swear one of these days I'll actually get back on topic!! :rolleyes1

My best friend since high school and her husband were just transferred to Elmendorf - she is having a really hard time adjusting. The dark, rain and cold has been tough on her.

Cute outfit! Love the colors. I have a victim of pink eye here today. Lovely. Just waiting for the other two to catch it next.

Thank you! Don't give it up: my eight year old appears to pink-eye free so far!

Teresa, they are turkeys:

Megan had her very first soccer game yesterday. She didn't score any goals, but she sure was cute:

Hey, everyone!!! Just thought I would check in and say Hi! For those of you that wanted to know how I did the Mickey Pumpkin Applique: I did a Yahoo search on images for "Mickey Pumpkin" and one of the things that came up was a picture of a Pin which was perfect. I downloaded into a word document and then resized and traced it onto "Pattern Ease" (BTY at Joanns...I use it to draw out patterns for my designs) VOILA For the Eyes, Nose and mouth I did a reverse applique by cutting them out of the "Pumpkin" fabric" and then putting the yellow fabric underneath. I drew the details on with a disappearing ink marking pen and then did my satin stitches along those lines. Now the Turkey Applique :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 is a Machine Embroidery design (changing the threads and cutting around the applique pieces was a challenge with only one hand...:lmao: ). I got it from a WONDERFUL digitizer:love:  : Dee at Band to Bow!!!!! Her "Stuff" is MARVELOUS she even has tiny designs for socks and hairbows. For those of you who have a machine that does embroidery you have to check her out!!!

You know I REALLY miss not being able to sew and create !! I can't wait until the next 3 weeks is up so I can start my physical therapy to regain the use of my arm!!!! At least I won't have to have surgury to put the ball back together!! :dance3: Nana:cheer2: :cheer2:

I didn't use a pattern. I'm scared of patterns! I made the top half of the Minnie skirt 40 in. (double my girls waists) and the bottom half 80 in. All in Minnie dot. The under skirt is also 80 in. Plain white. I sewed the two bottoms together and then sewed that to the top. I added the ruffle on the white and rick rack around the top Minnie dot. Put in the elastic and viola! Done. Very easy. Hope that makes sense!

Hello Maggi,
Thanks for jumping in, it is always fun to add some new people to the mix!!! Welcome and hope to see you back soon.

I bought my first knit fabric yesterday. When I get home today I'm gonna try to start figuring out how to make this Olivia pattern. Has anyone every worked with knit? Any suggestions? It seems that it is easiest to sew on a serger (which I will do). So, do you JUST serge? No stitching before? AND does anyone know how to get that really cute little ruffly edge on the sleeves and hem on knits? Is it a simple rolled edge, or do I need to change the differential feed or something? Any tips are appreciated!
