THANKS FOR REPLIES ABOUT LAYERING...NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT...GOOD IDEA, LONG SLEEVE TEE UNDER THE SHORT SLEEVE....CAN YOU TELL I HAVEN'T HAD KIDS IN A HUNDRED YEARS? NOW I RECALL DOING THAT WITH THE GIRLS YEARS AND YEARS AGO...REMEMBER, MY KIDS ARE YOUR AGES!

OK, SO those of you who applique...OR those of you who bought appliqued jeans...what is the method here, with cutting the seams.

I bought Nick a pair of overalls with Diego on them and the entire inner leg and crotch (can I say that, or should I say stride?) area were cut right at the sea and then stitched back together with a 5/8 inch seam, which makes them tighter, and I didn't like that heavy seam being against his little legs and tender skin...what do I do with the 5 pair that I have? How did you cut them? HELP Please...time is running out and my procrastinating is getting so bad...I could never make anything as beautiful as Tom because I never take the time to do it so exquisitely....I just fly by the seat of my pants...it's the nurse in me...rush rush rush, eat fast at lunch, you only get 30 min and 15 of that was waiting in line...rush rush rush, hope everyone has survived by the end of the shift, go home and worry about what you may have done wrong or didn't do...and then back again...no wonder I procrastinate...all that and raising 5 kids, I have a right to be nutso!

Oh, I am off track again, I feel like Dori, I have a short circuit in my brain.

Anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Susan

When I do applique jeans for my DD, this is what I do. I learned it here (not sure where I first read it - probably 800 pages ago). I use my seam ripper and I take out the seam either on the inseam OR outseam. The way I determine which seam I'm going to take out is - looking at the seams, one side usually has a kinda top stitch sewn in the seam (with that gold thread used for denim). I take out the opposite seam. A few pair ago, the inseam DIDN'T have the topstich, so I ripped that seam out. The most recent pair (yesterday), the inseam had the gold topstitch, so I ripped out the outer seam. THEN, after I've done what I'm gonna do, I turn the jeans inside out and sew the seam back, and serge. Good as new!

Awwww very cute picture....I have "extended" twins, 15 months apart... its great fun!

HaHaHa that is what I call my first 2, they were 14 months and 2 days apart! I sometimes look back and wonder how I survived that, especially when my youngest DS was 14 months 2days just recently.

People call my kiddos (12 months and 2 days apart) "Irish twins"....I personally call them "just as hard as" twins. :goodvibes

And after this weekend, they are sharing the cat's nicknames of "scourge and pestilence"

You totally could do it!! and no pattern. I just measured her, and added a little extra. It is a little stretchy, so I really should have added a little more, but its ok and she loves it. Basically, its a bunch of rectangles! Two for the hood, one for the back, I cut two the same size as the back and just cut one in the middle to make the two front sides. and two for the sleeves. then little ones for the ties. I had a little issue with the sleeves and having to resew the seam where they shoulder is. but it works. and she loves it. Next time, I will add an extra two inches or so to each piece except the hood, that was perfect. haha Even fits over her hair!

Well I finally finished her fleece jacket. I still have more fleece left over. I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I made her neck pillow (just needs to be stuffed) and her blanket to match.

Thanks for the directions! I added this to the bookmarks too. :cheer2:

Everyone's creations look so wonderful! I lost the multiquote I was doing, and am too lazy to redo it, so I am just going to say it. :)

I am sooo inspired now! Thank you all! I was really thinking about selling my world of fabric and giving up the sewing, my motivation to sew has been so bad, and now I'm excited again. Thank you thank you thank you.

Well, I'm off to buy groceries, try to join some fabric swaps (I think I can spare some), and then sit down and do some sewing prep. thanks again!

Wow! Lie on the couch sick for one day and come back to 10 pages to catch up on!!!!

Good news. I had my interview today at the blood bank and they offered me a position. It starts a dollar an hour less than I make now, but I'm also not getting any hours now so it will be better than nothing. There are lots of chances for pay raises though. If I want to get my CDL license they will pay for my classes and testing...so, totally psyched about becoming an official "truck driver" But at the same time a little nervous about driving one of those big blood mobile trucks.
Of course I won't start training till after backround and reference checks etc. Probably around Dec.3rd. too far away. but what are ya gonna do?
This job is really kinda perfect for me, I hope that they will be able to work with my school schedule next semester....t.

   Congrats!

I just pulled the door closed behind me. I'm NOT going back into my sewing room tonight. And maybe not tomorrow. I managed to complete a turkey applique on a pair of jeans for my DD, and even completed the matching t-shirt. And THEN, it was time for the ruffles. Usually pretty simple. But not today! I hemmed both ruffles, ruffled the first ruffle, moved on to the second. Broke my first needle. Had to rethread the machine. Forgot to reset my machine settings and didn't realize it until I ruffled the entire seconed piece. Had to rip out the stitch. Had to take off the ruffler contraption to get to my bobbin because somehow it needed to be re-threaded. Then, I broke my SECOND needle. All on one single strip of ruffle. I'm giving up! I WON'T try agian tonight. My DD doesn't HAVE to have the outfit until Thursday. We'll see if it gets done by then. But now, I have to go to the store for more needles! :headache: :headache: :headache:

I hope today is better for you!!!

OMG - I'm just SO excited!! I headed over to Tampa to go visit Hancock's, since they had all of their licensed fabric on sale 50% off. And, along with some of the other fabrics already shown, I am THRILLED to find 2 different Little Einsteins fabrics. They are just TOO, TOO cute!! I don't know what I'm going to do with them, but I bought 5 yds of each of them!! I'll have to take a picture and show you guys!

Can't wait to see a picture... don't take too long!

   Them all, especially this one!

Anyone: what is that magic sizing stuff again and where do you find it? I washed and dried some Christmas fabric and it is horribly wrinkled even after ironing it. I looked in my JoAnn's today but couldn't find it.

I think someone already answered this, but I get it at Walmart where the starches are.

Guess what I got for $50??????? Can yah guess, can yah??? HMMMMM........should I tell yah??????? Yah, .......
A serger!!!! It's the Singer one, and I've heard they aren't as good, but for $50 I thought I'd give it a try! Laura (the Seamstress) told me about a dispaly model that was collecting dust at a Walmart near us. So, I called and talked to the fabric department manager, who then talked to the store manager. She just wanted it gone, so she talked the manager into letting me have it for $50!!!! I haven't actually tried it out yet though. But, it does come with a little DVD that I have started watching. Now, what can I do with this machine????

   Yeah! Now, I just hope it doesn't give you fits like my Singer serger does me!

Looks so cute and cozy!

I love the new portrait peasant dress pattern from YCMT! I had no problem with this one! The pattern lines up, and the neckline gave me NO trouble!! The directions were a little confusing, but eeyore3487 helped me out there. Once I figured out to sew it together like the other one (different pattern) it was a piece of cake! I need to add the ruffle and have dd try it on tomorrow. It does use a lot of fabric though.

Can't wait to see it! I'm getting ready to try one of those I think.

OK, SO those of you who applique...OR those of you who bought appliqued jeans...what is the method here, with cutting the seams.

Ok Dory, I mean Susan ;) I just open whichever seam isn't topstitched, then when I'm done I stitch right back where the original seam was. Then I serge 1/4" only so it doesn't change the original size of the jeans. Good luck!

Hmmm, it never occured to me that the fabric should have been tricky to work with! I'm glad I didn't, because it all went very smoothly, and I'm not a big pin user. It's really noisy fabric though, so when they wore them to our meetings, I tried to get them to sit as still as possible!

I'm sure that wasn't difficult at all!! :rotfl:

I am not sure if you are saying you bought them that way or you sewed them up that way. I think if they are irritating him, I would try to use some bias tape and modify them. You could even add some of the snap tape maybe that would solve the problem.

Also when I take a pair of overalls apart I only cut the thread and not the actual denim. THen I stitch it back up where it was sewn before. I always take out the seam where there isn't any top stitching.

Sammie could not keep her eyes off minnie.

I must have missed this the first time through. What a nice picture of you and your sweet girls with Minnie!!

I really like all of your new outfits, but this has to be my favorite!! I picked up that fabric at JoAnn's 2 times yesterday but kept putting it back because I know I don't have time to make anouther outfit.

Awesome outfits!! That Thanksgiving set is very cute and so unique. Great work!! :cool1:

I love this!! I think I'm going to try working with some fleece once the holidays are over. Any tips??

Ok I won't take up any more room here- I'll have a ton more in my report- I took over 800 pictures. That's after I deleted the bad ones!!!! :scared1:

Thanks so much for sharing your trip pictures!! Those are always my favorites. Looks like you had a wonderful trip. I'm going to bookmark you TR to share with my DD tonight. She really enjoys reading TRs, especially ones with lots of pictures.

I am OFFICIALLY excited now!  We leave for our Thanksgiving trip (Actually our very first trip to DW as a family!) in 8 days and the outfits are complete! :cheer2: These outfits are my pride and joy these days as I have never appliqued or any of this before! (I made the Epcot and turkey ones - other one is from that auction place) I was so excited that I took my dd to have her pictures in them before they get "messed up"! What do you think? I was really excited about the "pilgrim-y" look of the apron dress turkey since we'll be eating Thanksgiving dinner at the Fort!

These are beautiful sets! I love them. Do you use a pattern to make the face appliques? Or did you freehand them? I love the Turkey set. Can you show a closeup of the applique. The photos are gorgeous I love the one of her twirling.

   Yeah! Now, I just hope it doesn't give you fits like my Singer serger does me!
Thanks Deann, that really ups my confidence level!!!! ;) :lmao:

I'm sure that wasn't difficult at all!! :rotfl:
Oh yeah, well you know when you have perfect little angels for children, getting them to sit still for two hours is a breeze! :scared1:

I'm excited that you will see them so soon! :woohoo: But very sad that they won't be going to Disney with you! :( Then happy again at the idea of trying to talk you into going in May! :dance3:

Wow, Deann, such a rollercoaster of emotions you put me on this morning!

Are you going to post some pictures of your grandbaby? She's about the same age as your youngest, isn't she? How fun!

and here is the pics of the down on the farm. I won't be using this fabric into something else. I like it, but Josephine says cows are for babys. geesh and it was from a sheet set so there is a ton left.
th_IMG_3507.jpg

Great job and the outfits are super cute! Love that scottie dog! I haven't done any appliquing yet but when I do, I am going to have to remember that about doing the patterend material. It really gives it that much more punch!

ACK! My DH had to go to bed early tonight so he couldn't post my pics of my fabrics...sorry!

Some of you are gonna get little packages from me in a few days! My envelopes are stuffed with a little extra in each  I'm mailing them tomorrow (no mail today)

Spongemommie told me she saw a Poke Mon outfit posted recently and I cant find it! Anyone know at a glance where it may be? My boys are Gaa Gaa over Pokemon! I just ordered my first BOLT of fabric...with Pikachu on it.

ALSO! Teresa, you know that quilted jacket someone posted last month? Where is it in the index? It was kind of an I-Spy jacket with tons of piced Disney characters on it. Did you index that?

Where did you get Pokemon fabric? My son is gaagaa over Pokemon right now and I would love to make him some pajamas.

BTW, did we ever see your Pokemon trainer things you made?

Are you going to post some pictures of your grandbaby? She's about the same age as your youngest, isn't she? How fun!

She is 2 months older than my youngest! So, I was holding my first grandbaby while I was 7m pregnant!!! I will have pics of all of them together in their Tgiving outfits next week!!
