That is so cute I gasped when I saw your picture!!! My Grandma is 89 too! (she'll 90 in March)She's in great health, much to her dismay!!!

Yep that's grams she will be 89 in december and she is still working- She works for a costume company, and she sews & knits for all us grandkids & great grandkids in her "spare time"

has anyone made a twirl skirt out of flannel??? or doyou basically use flannel for PJs only? Right now in NE PA we are still in the 80s but I know we WILL get cold weather and I want to make skirts that are more wintery (is that a word?). Would a flannel twirl look okay? or nah?

I was thinking of doing it myself. I have some really cute Monsters Inc flannel hat I want to use. It's too cute for just jammies! I can't see any reason it wouldn't work. I'm thinking you might not want to make it as full, becasue of the bulk of the flannel though. Anyone have some real experince with this though??

I agree. Mine may not remember everything - but we "live in the moment"! I am there for the right then experience - I don't care if they remember it when they are 20. I think you miss out on the AWE factor too if you don't take them when they are young - already at 7 years old mine are asking if the characters are real and missing some of the magic!

My 2 year old remembered the bubbles from the little mermaid show 9 mos. later! I don't care what people say. It isn't just about specific memories it's about an overall memory of what a loving and fun childhood a kid had! I would say that we all have some pretty lucky little kiddos!

I have been trying really hard to remember that lately. We are living in such a "stuff obsessed" world that I often find myself worrying over what I don't have and can't do instead of being thankful for what I do and have. We were talking about this in my Bible study and it is really something I want to get better about.

I really think that my sewing helps me do this. When I am sewing I have to slow down and really relax and I tend to be really happy and content when I am taking the time to do that!

I love the Minnie sewing machine pictures!!!! How exactly ARE you suppose to sit at that machine though? My kids always sit on the fabric too!

This is prexactly (to steal a term from UtahMama) why DH and I decided that this year for Christmas, our kids do not need a bunch of more toys. We have convinced them to ask Santa for one large family gift. Hmmmmm, what will he bring us? Possibly a family vacation with memories to last a lifetime? When I look back on my childhood I have very few memories of "things" I got and many wonderful memories of vacations and time spent with my family. Our only other trip to Disneyworld was when DS was nearly 2 and DD was 3. It was the best vacation ever and DD swears she remembers certain things.

They do remember! We took my dd4 when she was 2 years old and she still remembers things! We are going back in November and all I have heard for the last 6 months is how she wants to ride the Dumbo ride!!! She then informed her daddy while she and I were on the Dumbo ride that he and lil sis could ride the carousel since it was just "right there". She remembers that the carousel is beside the Dumbo ride! So much for not remembering! Well, I have fallen behind on this post but just wanted to say all of the new clothes have been AWESOME! Iwant to case them ALL! Keep up the good work and hopefully I will be able to post some pics soon of what I have been up to!

My DH and I took our daughter the month after she turned 2. she will be 5 this December. About a month ago we were at an intersection and a bus drove by. She said to me, "remember when you and daddy and i were on the bus?" i asked her what she meant. she went on to explain the bus with mickey mouse on it and inside there was a picture of bear in the big blue house. she told me all these details about it. then she proceeded to talk all about the trip.

Personnally i couldn't be happier that she has these memories. especially now that we have lost my husband. it's the little moments like sitting on a bus with him that she can hold on to. people say kids don't remember things...but you know i think it's the opposite. they experience life in a way that we adults should more. they notice the little things and savor them. i think we would all be better suited if we remembered more like a little kid.

I don't know if I'm doing anything for Christmas. I made those Halloween patchwork twirl skirts, which took me way too long. And my girls can only wear them this month. It's been in the 80's, so they haven't even worn them yet. It's supposed to get colder, though. They should be wearing them soon. I don't know if I want to put all that time and effort into another project that can only be worn for such a short time. Does anyone else feel this way?

I did buy the Mickey winter fabric, which I should start on soon.

I try not to think of it that way. I have a head-strong little girl and she will change her clothes a lot and wear things out of season. If she likes it and it's comfy she will wear it so I try not to calculate the cost to wear ratio and go with that. In fact, today she wore her Nemo outfit to school I made for Disney.

I have the same problem. My DSIL & her family have been to WDW 3 times in the last year & a half & they're going in Jan. with her husband's family. It's really hard for me sometimes because I really wish we could go more (& stay longer), but it's VERY important to me (& dh) that I stay home with the girls until they start school so we just can't afford it. Sewing is my release. I get to make things for my girls that I would never be able to buy them.

This year Christmas will be pretty light after our trip to WDW (which my WONDERFUL parents are mostly paying for), but I'm going to make both girls a kid-friendly scrapbook of the autographs we get. They'll love it & it will help us all to remember the trip. Which is the point of scrapbooking anyway. I figure, sure dd1 won't really remember going, but with the pictures & the stories we tell about them, she'll know about it still.

Now that I've made myself a teary, Teresajoy, I think I'm going to give you a run for the 'Sappiest in Class' award.

Does anybody else have this problem?? while you sleep you are tossing and turning because your brain is thinking of all the sewing projects you need to do and or new ideas for stuff to do (not that you don't already have enough) your sewing machine is calling you , calling you first thing in the morning and is telling you to neglect your house and or your kiddos,studying ect. and get on and start.... or is this just happening to me ... i think we need a support group!!! everyone have a great day

Thanks Teresa! I like that "Shari" dress. I've been thinking of making something like that. I love the style, but they generally don't fit me right as I'm a little top heavy. I could also make the sleeves longer. Of course, I must mention the "Lydia" shirt, too.

DD 2 yo was telling me over lunch today how she had to take her shoes off in the airport. She remembered how her "lovey" had to go for a ride in the tunnel (xray machine) and daddy helped her take her shoes off while Mommy put the stroller on the table. You are NOT alone! My name is Heather and I have sewing apnea.

My insomnia has only gotten worse since I started sewing this summer. It doesn't help that we are living in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment while our house is being built and there is no place to escape when I can't sleep.

Let me tell you about little ones' memories.... DGS Nicholas was 13 months old when he was taken from the orphanage in Kemorovo Region, Siberia Russia, the only home he ever had and rode a bus with his new parents, DD and DSIL...and then a grueling trip to USA. He had never ridden a bus since until he was 28 months old in WDW. He would point at the bus and talk about the bus, but when we tried to get him out of his stroller to get on the bus, it took 3 of us to pry his fingers loose and he clung to his mama and cried the entire time...no more bus for him...he must have remembered the bus ride in Russia....

Makayla was 21 months at the time when we were in WDW as a family and both of them remember so much it is unbelievable. With the DVD's that are available and the Disney channels, travel channel etc, it keeps it fresh in their memories. We have those DVD's of all of the parks they sell and when the kids see them, they always say, "I did that yesterday" (last year!)

We bought DVc specifically to provide these memories for our DGD and DGS's. We have willed our points to the kids so that the memories will live on. Last year was a family trip in Oct that was their Christmas gift, and this year it was Sept for one, Dec for another, Feb for another and May for the other with their families and us. How delightful.

And with their customs, how could they ever forget Disney????

I have been a slug today! I think that whenever I am working on a project that I am just not sure about, it makes me avoid my hobby. I am trying to motivate myself to finish (and start pretty much) Riley's decoupage Halloween jeans. I have never done it before and I am so worried that I won't like the results that I am a little nervous to get started. Oh well, I am going to bite the bullet and get to work. I'll have to get the girls at school soon, then I'll work on the jeans!!! I won't be able to get on-line again till they go to bed (partly because they keep me busy and partly because I would have to pry them kicking and screaming off of Webkinz) so maybe I'll have them finished and the girls can model their coordinating Halloween sets before they go to bed! Wish me luck.

Of course I've been sneaking onto the dis anyway Some situations have thrown some financial kinks into our WDW tripMy DH has a tendency to make everything a worst case scenario and it's my job as mother and wife to keep everyone's spirits up. Well, looking at all the fabulous outfits my daughter would be NOT wearing to WDW started to bum me out. But as it turns out not being on the dis was bumming me out even more. I kept sneaking in and wanting to post, but feeling like a schmuck just e-mailing TJ instead So. I can't go to the parks and I'm getting over it. I do have MNSSHP tix and there is a possibility we will stick around for an extra day to trick or treat in DTD, where DD will wear her Halloween patchwork twirl. And we are going to go to the petting zoo at Ft. Wilderness, she can wear her AK twirl top there. The only outfit that I didn't have the fabric cut on was her epcot one and maybe I'll just save that for our next trip. We usually go at least twice a year, but it's been a tough year, I'm still holding out hope for a spring trip- or possibly an overnight to MVMCP . So, in light of MYTWOTINKS post on being thankful, I'm back and will be thankful that my daughter has cute custom clothes to wear around town and that we are going to WDW at all. I will just have to focus on planning our next trip and practice sewing so I can make even better outfits for it!!!Besides, I'm secretly hoping that I find a way to go to the parks anyway

Love this jean jumper. I've wanted to do a jean jumper like the one in the photobucket w/ the Tulle underneath and this totally inspired me to try it!!! Glad you all had a wonderfull trip!!

LOVE the carriage bling!!! Wish I'd thought of it!! I am putting a satin ribbon at the bottom of DD's princess pillow case dress and am having it embroidered w/ "when you wish upon a star" I think I'll have her save some space for some bling...I'm quite the little thief

Glad to see that you are back.
I live in an area where the majority of the kids get everything that there little hearts could want whenever they want. We are very blessed in all that we have, but I purposely do not let my kids get everything they want when they want it so that they can learn the value of things and the patience in waiting for something that you truly desire. I believe that when we wait for things and earn them they are so much more precious to us. We are all different in what we can materially give to our families, but hugs, kisses and kind words don't cost a thing and I think that is what kids, and adults too, today need the most of.
