Can anyone please tell me how to attach this dang ruffler foot!! i got the generic one from joannes, and the directions it came with were so pathetic!!! HELP!!!!

All of these were made using the stripwork jumper pattern from ycmt. Actually it's the only pattern for a bodice that I use now. For the skirt I cut 2 strips of fabric at least 36 in. long. Sew at side seams, gather and attatch to the bodice. Make it the length you want - shorter for a top, longer for a dress.

Thats too funny!!! Me too, DH says I keep making the same dress over again. I'm all "no, this one has strips, this one is a dress, this one is a top..."
but it's cute and I like it and I don't like him.

The older Holly Hobby or the new one? When we were little, Heather and I had a complete Holly Hobby bedroom (from Sears). I just loved it! We had the curtains, bedspread and canopy! Heather called her Hobby Hobby, I thought it was the cutest thing! I Grandma made us Hobby Hobby dolls too!

Welcome home Utahmama!!!We heard lots of stories about you while you were gone!!
Becareful w/ the laundry, don't break an elbow We're officially NOT doing laundry to keep our insurance premiums down.

Not to mention a month after I broke my elbow on the laundry my DD fell of DS toddler bed and broke her wrist- Full arm cast for 3 weeks. Boy did we make a pair.

Oh, you poor things!

I am desperately looking for a jumper dress/top pattern like this one...

It doesn't have to be just like this, but a similar bodice, straps, and full skirt like this one.

I figured if anyone knows, it would be you girls!

WOO HOO!! I am done with my no sew/little bit sew project. I sewed the skirt and the tops are no sew. I just used the minnie dot fabric and ironed it on the shirts, along with the Minnie heads and then sewed on bows (which I made myself ). Now that I look at the pic the bow on my DD shirt is bigger than the one on my mom's top but oh well, hopefully no one will be looking that closely at it. I cannot wait to give the top to my mom when we get there, she is probably going to cry!!

I will try to post a pic later tonite with my daughter wearing her outfit.

Thanks again to everyone who helped me out thru this project, now I can clean up my kitchen a bit and we can have that room back.

Did you check out the tutorials in the bookmarks? That's how Corey figured out how to attach ours.

If you go to www.youcanmakethis.com they have a FREE PDF file with instructions on how to you the ruffler and it explains alot. They also have a link to a video instruction by the author of the booklet.......But to get it on the machine you unscrew your presser foot off then put the rffler on the shank and screw it on..also the forky arm needs to be hooked onto the needle tightening bar. It is super easy, don't be intimidated! Start with something to just practice on, skip the polka dots if you want, my machine actually had an eyelet stitch and that is what I used for them. Just cut and use some heat n bond, sew, cut next piece, bond n place, sew. Really, it is easy!

Thanks! I'll try it tomorrow. I found the cutest purple w/ pink dots that I might use for the hat, b/c I don't think I have an eyelet stitch on mine, but who knows. I'm so excited you showed me this!

Well it is done and has been tried on and she LOVES it!! I was trying to get a good twirling pic, but she was ready to pass out so we went with the ones I have. I am so happy that the skirt fits her so well, since I did it while she was at school the one day and guessed at the size and length. If there is such a thing as a sewing fairy, she was smiling on me that day!!

Now I guess I better start packing and getting ready to leave. I only have tonite and all day tomorrow to get ready. YIKES!!!

I used Simplicity 3740 (It's an "It's so easy it's simplicity patter from the racks above the pattern drawers at Wal-mart) to make the guitar top. I didn't use the pattern pieces for the skirt. I made Drew's longer and a little fuller than what they show and I added the ruffle. It was a pretty easy pattern to follow.

I think it looks fairly similar to the top you showed and it was a pretty easy pattern if I recall correctly.

Okay, I feel like I'm leaving you out Lisa. I am in awe of everything you create so, sometimes I forget to actually tell you that. The chip and dale sets are great!!! Maybe I can do a mickey and minnie themed set for DD and DS...Although after the mickey head applique I'm not sure I'm ready to move on to something w/ a face!!

Thanks. I hadn't thought about the similarity but now that you mention it, the photo of Zoe in that dress definitely has a Holly Hobby feel.

I was nervous to try more complicated applique for a long time. I finally decided to give it a shot before Christmas last year because I wanted to make some Christmas gifts. It's certainly not as easy as a square but it really isn't that hard. Doing the smaller pieces takes some practice but I bet you'd be amazed at what you could do if you tried one.

Welcome back! Skip the laundry and just make more customs. We've decided that's a much better use of time plus it's less dangerous.

Okay, anyone doing the tulle twirl skirt from YCMT, do you hate the way she tells you to ruffle? I am currently ruffling about 15 feet of fabric for my 2 year old's skirt and she says to use a wide zig zag stitch and put elastic thread down the middle of the zig zag as you sew. After you are done, pull and gather. I HATE THIS! I have always used the basting stitch way of ruffling and like it better (no reason why that can't be done with this but I figured I'd try something new). Just wondering if anyone else is having any problems with this, my elastic has snapped twice now. Just getting frustrated and wanted to vent a little. Back to gathering I go!

I'd say do it the way that works for you! With tulle, I usually don't do the double basting stitch because the thread seems to break more easily. I think the texture of the tulle causes more wear to the thread. I usually do a zigzag stitch over heavy thread but some people even use dental floss. As long as it's strong enough to hold up to pulling, it should work.

I just finished one for a size 2, and I have sworn to never make another one again! Gathering that much fabric AND tulle for that little size is so exhausting! Good luck!

Ok, I need help! I'm making peasant blouses. I'm using this pattern from the bookmarks

I'm confused. It says - Cut two squares 14" x 14" (this is length desired plus 2" for hems)
So, do you take that to mean that if you want the length to be 19", then you would cut two squares that are 21" each?

And then, it says to use the same pattern for the arm holes that is a J'ed off rectangle that is 5" x 2". So, my question is, if you make this shirt in a size 12 (the original pattern is like a size 3 or something), do you still use the same size pattern for the arm hole?

Can anyone help me?

yes the squares would be 21. But if you want it more form fitting make it 21 long, and say 19, wide. I did a 18 long by 15 wide for my skinny size 6 (I wanted it long but form fitting). The arm holes you have to increase. I used her size armholes and dd couldn't get it on. I increased each number by one inch (ie 2x5 to 3x6) for a size 6, so I'd say maybe 2 inches for a 12? What I did is use cheap fibric for the first one until I got the proportions I wanted. Good luck!

I know what you mean! I have been working on one skirt for 3 days now and I've ripped it apart so many times my seam ripper was smoking!

Hi, sorry it took so long! Photoshop was not cooperating. This is the back of DD post nap, so don't mind the wrinkles and the messy hair! I had to pretend there was something cool outside to look at to get her to hold still and get a back side shot! I put the "skirt" seam in the back but maybe I should've put it on the side. Hmmm...still can't decide, but I won't change it.
