I bought too soon! I ordered some striped ones from WeLoveColors . com. They were more expensive than the others but I do have to tell you that their quick shipping is pretty impressive. I ordered Friday morning and the package was waiting for me when I came home for lunch today! The tights look very cute!

I just ordered from them today! ARGHHH!!!!!!!! I got mine from Target last year but our Target hasn't had them yet this year and I was worried that I wouldn't find any so I went ahead and bought them for both of my daughters! Just figures!

Now that more people are buying from the co. I thought I would share. For whatever reason last October every place in the universe was sold out of black and white tights. DD was the Wicked Witch so they were essential. The only place I could find them was this website. Fully knowing they were the only place that had them they jacked up the price big time. With shipping I ended up paying $40 for tights!!! The worst part was they were not honest about the shipping and they were not honest about the size. My DD could barely walk in these tights. They were too short and kept rolling down.

I am not going to buy tights from them again. It is just a matter of principal. i would rather spend my "tight money" elsewhere.

I bought from them but the tights are very wide, even through the ankle... they're very saggy. I don't think Gracie will wear them. I'm probably going to order a pair from Hannah Andersson.

Well, we are back and very sad to have had to leave Disney. :lmao: The kids had the best time and that's what's important. Here's just a few pics.

I love Ilana in the AK outfit!!!! She is so adorable!!! It looks like you had so much fun!!!!

When ppl are talking about finding characters and they say they find them on "bolts" what does that mean? I am sooo inspired from this thread I am going to buy some fabric today to see what i can come up with... thanks so much
~~Lisa~~

A bolt is the fabric rolled onto the cardboard at the store. (hope that makes sense!)

This may be a really silly question but.....:confused3
I am considering buying an embroidery machine....nothing too crazy expensive...but something I could do some embroidery with. (OK maybe a lot once I am hooked :rotfl: )
I noticed websites where you can download designs etc. So here's my two Q's:

1. Can these downloads be added to any machine? And how?

2. Any machine suggestions????

:flower3: Thanks everyone!!! :goodvibes

I really don't have an answer to either of your questions but I have been looking at embroidery machines myself. So far I have looked at the Husqvarna and the Bernina lines and still have Janome on my list of to-be-looked-at. I have been visiting local shops that specalize in the machines and they have been a great wealth of information. You can typically find them listed under the manufacture's website (as authorized retailers)

Of course have fallen in LOVE with the top of the line from both Husqvarna and Bernina, but at $6000+ they are no where near my budget right now. Husqvarna makes an embroidery-only machine (Husky EM10) for about $600 that came well recommended by one of the shops. As soon as she gets more in stock I plan on test-driving one. I think other companies also make embroidery-only machines. I'm hoping to see more machines at this year's International Quilt Festival in November (maybe an early Christams present?!?)

Keep us updated on your search for a machine.

Hey TJ- How was camping??? The closest I will ever get camping is when my Dh and kids cooked out at the park. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Although, Dh and I love offroading in his Jeep. My parents were big campers. We had a VW bus and camped at the beach so it was a little different.

If I was forced to go camping I would make my girls customs.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I hope you had a great time!

In my best Napoleon Dynamite voice "Luckyyyyyy" ;) I've not been camping since May 2005 and I was 8mo pregnant! Our camper needs so much work, and I refuse to let dh spend anything on it until our trip is paid for... and the girls' customs, of course!

We had a BLAST!!!!! Every year, my ENTIRE family goes on a camping trip for a weekend in September. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, sisters  , Moms, neices, nephews, cousin's kids...... You get the idea. It is such a wonderful time to catch up with everyone, and we look forward to it all year long!!! Lydia was the most excited, and then Thursday night, she came down with a fever, so I sent Brian and the kids out Friday, and Brian came back for me and Liddy Saturday since she was feeling better. Friday night was FREEZING and windy!!! I think it got down into the 30's and with the wind, I guess they were pretty cold!

We usually all eat together, everyone bringing something for everyone to share. There are mountain biking trails, and Corey LOVES going on those! Much to my horror!

You didn't ask for pictures, but lucky lucky you I'm going to go ahead and share some anyways!!!!

Here is part of the trail that Corey took me down. Apparently, early, my father flipped himsef over the handlebars going down this one!
Camping2007086.jpg

Notice how it looks like there is another trail off to the right? Nope, that's the same trail, it just cuts back around real sharp, and there is an EVIL looking drop off over there too! I walked my bike on this part!

Here are all the kids and my Mom running around in the meadow having fun:
Camping2007100.jpg

From the left, it's Tessa, Sawyer, Arminda (in the bike helmet),Lydia (in the green shirt), my cousin's baby is behind her, and then my Mom.

My cousin's little boy, who is 5 told Brian, "I really like your girls. They are nice, and REALLY pretty!" What a sweetie!

Here we all are sitting around the campfire, just talking and sharing stories. Corey said this is his favorite part, besideds the biking.
Camping2007079.jpg

I won't tell you which one is me, but if you look close, you will see a Disney cup on the ground!

And, just to show you what kind of relatives Heather and I have, here is the "camper" that my cousin's son brought:
Camping2007080.jpg

We called it the redneck camper.

No customs on this trip, they got WAY too dirty!!! I still need to scrub them all down! (We didn't have school today, it's Fair Day here in St. Joe County Michigan!)

We go to Pennsylvania every year with DH's parents and stay in a fishing camp on the river and we have a great time just like that! Poor Lydia, missing the first freezing night! I'm glad she was feeling better and got to go. When we go up to PA the kids' favorite parts are throwing rocks in the river and sitting around the fire. Your pictures are great: thanks for sharing them with us!

My DD has a pair of overalls with the snap crotch, she can unsnap them in about three seconds after getting them on. Is it possible (and how would I do it) to use the machine and sew the crotch closed or would I be better off whip stitching them shut? (Not that I really have time to do either, we leave really early Thursday morning and I still have a couple things I'd like to get finished.)

That should be easy enough to do, just so you know that they will be a pain to get off to change her diaper! You could either do it by hand or with the machine, just a straight stitch should do it. I think!

OOH! That is cute!!! And, it gives me an idea. It just occured to me that I should make outfits to wear to Whispering Canyons Cafe, and I have some cow print in my stash! Thanks for the inspiration!

My girls are wearing overalls to WCC, except dd8 who requested a pink/black tutu skirt which I've yet to conquer!

I am not going to buy tights from them again. It is just a matter of principal. i would rather spend my "tight money" elsewhere.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That just struck me as hilarious this morning!

We do this over several days during Memorial Day. My whole family too! Both of my teens say this is their favorite part too! I have to admit, it's mine too. Would you be the only one in the pic that is not male or has white hair? ;)

Don't make fun of my camper! Just kidding, but mine could use a little duct tape!

That sounds like a fun time too! I am always amazed at what really stand out to the kids! I think that's the great part about camping, it really creates some great memories!

:rotfl2: Actually, my cousin's wife is way across the picture sitting at the picnic table. But honestly, I'm glad you picked me out! That's my Mom and Dad sitting next to me holding hands. [/quote]

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Actually, the camper we borrowed DID have duct tape! My cousin is planning on putting a little "patio" on the front of this, under the lip there, with a truck bench seat to sit on!

Good Morning Sewers! (Which is spelled the same as the other "sewer")

So, in a mini-fit (invisible to the naked eye) I ripped the Aurora bodice off the skirt and am starting over!!!! Let's JUST say, that Aurora does not show THAT much cleavage...especially if she's 3. I think I've got it now though. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm doing this because the store-bought costumes are not as nice as homespun one's. Not as hot, not as scratchy, no one else has one just like it, plus Norah LOVES every thing I make. Which can and will take a turn for the worse in a few short years when she won't want to be caught dead in something mama-made.

Let me just say, that the official Aurora pattern is crazy confusing and I'm going back to EASY before I hurt someone ;)

And I'm doing the 4 more days dance! Looks a little like this: :cool1:

I think we have the same family! Now that's funny right there!

Thanks for sharing!!!!

Hi! Sorry to be a bother, but I'm a work and don't have the chance to go back through the whole thread.

Does anyone have a McCall, Vogue or Simplicity pattern number for a patchwork or vertically striped "twirly" skirt? I've seen some great ones in this thread, but can't seem to find an actual corresponding pattern. Have most of you deviated from patterns to achieve this look? The only patterns I can find are skirts with the three horizontal bands, and the skirts don't look full enough.

If you did customize a pattern which one was it?

This is for a 3-yo, 38 inches tall and 30 pounds. She normally wears a size 3T/4T

Thanks in advance.

I briefly considered putting a "custom" on Tessa before we left for the campground. But, then I came to my senses! I had to scrub her down with a wire brush when we got home (okay, not really, that may have been painful)!

:goodvibes Thanks for all the great compliments. For those who are wondering, my stroller is a Kolcraft Contours Tandem and I LOVE it! It's huge and not for the minimalist mom, lol, but it's the best double I've owned.
I LOVE that stroller. I just looked it up on walmart.com and it's absolutely the coolest!! I wish that was around when I was searching for a double stroller about a year ago. Now Tessa is probably getting too big for a double. She's not quite 40lbs yet, though....

6 weeks two summers from now. you never know with teenagers though! We do plan on doing it and seeing the country when DD graduates from college. Our goal is to live in each state at least a week. I would definately take my sewing machine!
*sigh* I would love to get an RV and just drive around the country with my family for a while. Henry, on the other hand, thinks that sounds like pure toruture.

I am not going to buy tights from them again. It is just a matter of principal. i would rather spend my "tight money" elsewhere.
tight money, I'm tee-heeing over that one!! :rotfl2:

I'm sorry, Lisa! I had posted a reply to this, but my computer locked up immediately afterwards and it must not have went through. Most of the fabric in the store is on a bolt (a cardboard thing in the middle) and is either 45" or 66" wide. Some things, like the 6" tulle comes on a spool.

I LOVE our family camping trip!! We always have such a great time. The best part is, it's only 1/2 hour from my house, so I can go home and sleep in my nice warm bed instead of a tent! Actually, I'd rather stay, but my DH has a silly aversion to cold tents. Firstly, I am glad that I don't have a bike!! Second, those are some darn cute kids playing in the meadow! I can't believe mom and dad were holding hands, how sweet! The owner of the "redneck camper" came out of his camper with a jacked-up looking huge can of pineapple, eating directly out of the can. I wish I had my camera for that one. Lastly, who the heck ever heard of "fair day"?! What a crock!!!

Just to keep this on topic- we talked about sewing while we were there. Plus, there's the Pop Century cup in the picture.

When we go up to PA the kids' favorite parts are throwing rocks in the river and sitting around the fire.
Sawyer's favorite part was playing in the dirt, picking up rocks with my cousin's little boy. Isn't it sweet how the simplest things can bring hours of entertainment!

About the white hair, you may want to look a little closer....

Yah know, that's just NOT nice! I feel worse for poor Tori though!

Most people don't use a specific pattern that you cut out from pattern pieces. There are some directions in Teresajoy's bookmark site, which is linked in the first post.
Basically you take your daughter's waist measurement and multiply by 1 1/2 or 2 (do 2 if you want the full on horizontal twirl factor.). The next tier will be double that and keep doing that. You decide how long you want the skirt to be and divide by number of tiers you want to use. So if you want it 15 inches long, with 3 tiers, each tier is 5 inches, make sure to add on seam allowance. Decide how wide you want your squares to be, again adding seam allowances. Have fun gathering and ruffling and voila a twirl skirt.
The links in Teresajoy's bookmark explain it much better.

There are directions to these in the bookmarks. I think most people are getting the stripwork patterns off of http://www.youcanmakethis.com But, they are basically just a regular full skirt pattern with strips sewn together.

:yay: Avery received her little surprise yesterday! Thank you so much :yay:

It's going to be in the mid 80's today so she got to wear it to preschool. I took a couple of pics this morning to share. It was still early so she wasn't smiling much (my daughter isn't a morning person). I can assure you she LOVES her *sparkley* watermelon outfit though! She picked out pink Cinderella panties to match it (all by herself, mind you).

I have a surprise coming your way now....you should get it in few days - I stopped by the post office this morning after dropping off the babes!

Steph, thanks again you sweetie-pie :flower3:

Oh wow, it got there fast! I was worried that it would be too cold for her to wear by the time it got there (I forget the rest of the country has these things called "seasons," unlike here!).

I CASEd this from an outfit on Ebay: it was fun to make something for a little person. I'm glad she likes it and it's warm enough to wear. I feel like I should make something for Jack now!

I am having the worst morning fighting with this top I am working on. I can't seem to follow the directions and in some cases the directions don't make any sense at all. Ugh! The seam ripper is my best friend right now: I'll try not to stab myself in the leg with it. At least I'm getting some laundry so the day is not a total loss. And seeing cutie Avery in her outfit is cheering me up too. Thanks for sharing the pictures Traci!

I Made That Beautiful Simplicity Aurora, And It Was A Pain...it Really Is An Advanced Pattern...been Sewing Since 42 Years And I Had To Read And Reread And Look At The Pics And The Pattern Pics...but It Is To Die For.....i Will Post Pics When I Can...we Leave On Thursday Night And I Still Have To Hem It. My Dgd Mayaklya Wears A 2 T And I Had To Cut Down Every Piece Of That Pattern To Make One That Would Fit...if I Were To Sell Something Like That I Would Charge A Lot Of Money...but The Finished Product Is Nothing Like You See Off The Rack.

There Is A More Simple Pattern That You Just Gather The Skirt. This One Had These Triangular Pieces That Had To Fit Into Each Of These Panels...and Oh, So Many More Difficult Things.

Two Of The Outfits I Made Makayla Were Infant Patterns And I Made An Xl, Guess What....way Too Big...so I Will Make Something Else And Maybe Next Year She Can Wear Them/

I Did Buy One Thing From Voldemart - Raggedy Ann Shortalls And They Are So Cute...i Can't Believe I Got Them For That Price...i Will Post Later...

So Off To The Machine....had To Call In Sick Today...no Scheduled Patients On A Tuesday, So No Loss To Anyone...

Can't Wait To Get These Done And Get To Wdw....woohoo

Susan
