What do I know...

I hate appliqueing!!! I am NEVER appliqueing again, now that my DEA MIL is done ripping out my mess I'm gonna go try again...I'll post pics later.

...t.

For those that were looking at making a tutu, here's my first attempt. I used 9 and a half yards of tulle that comes on the bolt and cut it myself into 6 inch strips. I didn't think it took all that long to tie. I added some sparkly tulle and ribbon as well. Not sure how well you can see it.

My daughter is almost 8 and 50" tall. She wanted it almost ankle length. So if your DD is smaller I would imagine you would use less tulle.

My dh and I went on a date yesterday, we got up at 5am and drove to Gatlinburg TN and Cherokee NC. I've never been to either and it was a learning experience. We now know where to go next time and where to avoid!!! I guess you can compare it to living in NY your whole life and never visiting the Statue of Liberty! No fabric involved in the trip, although I did look for a Joanns everywhere we went just so I could try getting that ruffler again! No luck!

Aimee, do tell... who makes the calico dresses? I can't seem to recall them.

It might have been: http://www.boutiqueolliegirl.com/ There are some SUPER cute dresses on there!
I'm making skirts using the Lilo fabric and some Elvis fabric. They'll wear them with a tshirt designed by someone on the Creative DISign board. I love seeing the Lilo outfits!
Did it match then? I can't wait to see what you make! [/quote]
I immediately thought of Sammy Hagar! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I can't drive FIFTY FIVE!!
:drive: :car:

OOH, I love the ribbons!

Here are the pictures of the customs we'll be taking next week for Gracie. I took pictures of the outfits with matching bows, jewels and shoes. Some have more than one choice of shoes! I'm waiting on one more thing that may or may not go to Disney... a tulle Minnie dress from Voldemort... it's over the top! If I think it will work for MNSSHP I will take it, if not Gracie will wear Snow White and use the Minnie tulle dress at home.

So, if you're at Disney next week and see us... say hi!:thumbsup2

These next two outfits will be used for diaper bag outfits in case a quick change in the park is needed. Usually Gracie isn't messy but just in case...

Wow Angel! I had forgotten some of those outfits! She'll be one of the best dressed toddlers at Disney! Please share the Minnie outfit with us when you get it!

I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but I bought some E-6000 yesterday and on the back it listed all of the types of materials it would work on, on styrofoam it said 'not recommended.' It might be too harsh for foam. I wouldn't want you to ruin your Mickey. :scared1:

Thanks for the tip! I wouldn't want to ruin it either! The Mickey head is just foam, not styrofoam, I wonder if that would make a difference.

Ok, one of you with the E-6000 glue, try it out on some foam for me!

Angel, she'll be the talk of Disney! They are all amazing!!

You named your fridge Tom???:rotfl2: :rotfl2: How funny but I am glad "he" is out of your living room. That gives you space to eat! Or sew?:confused3 You just crack me up!

Wow Aimee I just LOVE your fabrics and I want to move in with you so we can sew together! :rotfl: Just kidding! I am not weird  I can't wait to see your creations. Did you already get your patterns? I need a few more to work on my big princess creations. I really love the Belle colors so maybe I will do that when I get finished the 10 projects in cue. Oh yeah then there is work and hubby and kids and stuff like that...:rolleyes1

Cathy,

Thanks so much! I bought all my patterns when the Simplicity patterns were on sale for $.99. I made DD and DH buy patterns too!:rotfl:

I bought a pattern for a colonial dress. It reminded me of a Felicity American Girl dress. I thought maybe someday. Well, it looked almost just like Belle's Christmas dress. I also bought a bunch of formal dress patterns. I wanted to make Ariel's pink dress. One was so close to Cinderella's pink dress I was surprised.

I have a bunch of projects too. I started Megra but cannot get the rolled hem right. So, that went back in the ziploc bag. :rotfl2: I am working on a black and white polkie dot number that I promised DD for school Tuesday:scared1: Then I have all of these new creations. I also have a couple of Halloween outfits cut and ready to piece together.

I think I need to make a list.:rolleyes1

On :wizard: check out what I just won!! I have to say I am thrilled!!!

OMG, I had to quote this full size because it is all so pretty! Of course DD was looking and oohing and ahhing right along with me too. Little does she know there is no way I will get anything close to that made for her for this trip!

I was wondering if someone could do me a favor . . .

I wanted to see if anyone was willing to cut out some fabric letters on their Circut machine for me. I need two sets of Go Navy! Beat Army! I can send all the materials and SASE. Also, a thank you of a super sparkly Aimee Gomberg Collection glitter ornament for your trouble.

If anyone can please pm or email me. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!!!

Very pretty!!! My dd2 would love this! The ribbon showed up in the pics, and I bet the sparkly tulle looks great too. I'm going to need to make one of these, I just know it!

Thanks to this thread I have been inspired by all of the creative ladies and gentlemen to learn how to sew! Suffice it to say a couple of weeks ago I did not even know how to turn on a sewing machine :confused3 Fortunately part that was included in lesson number one :) We also praticed sewing on scrap fabric in straight lines...ok well they were supposed to be straight lines:sad2: and in circles which brought me to the immediate realization that it will be a loooong, looong time before I can even think of appliquing a Mickey head on anything :lmao:

I bought my first pattern and chose a Simplicity one that had the word "easy" on it. In my warped sense of logic the brand "Simplicity" should equate to simple and the word "easy" on the package should imply that it is in fact... easy. Yeah... no... not so much. I could literally hear a deep evil and sinsiter "Bwaa Mwaa Haa Haa" emanating from the pattern paper as I attempted to decipher what on earth I was supposed to do with it  How these makes sense to anyone without an architectural or engineering degree is beyond me :rotfl2:

Well, the pattern pieces have been cut and some of it has been sewn. My instructor even suggested I do a decorative topstitch. To which I replied that I didn't think people who couldn't sew straight lines should be doing decorative top stitches :rolleyes1 I gave it a go and actually sewed straight :thumbsup2 I'll be darned if my fabric isn't staring to resemble an article of clothing :cool1: I'll post pics when I'm done. Everyone's kids might be in college at the rate I'm going though :rotfl:

just a note, on the back of E6000 glue it says "according to CA law, content can cause cancer." Just an fyi before you go buy it.

There are actually quite a few products that say this on them! I have asked my dd's oncologist and he said "I wouldn't eat the stuff". Basically he said that using a product for a short period of time wasn't going to cause cancer. I was actually asking him about some glass etching cream at the time, but I assume the same is true about most of the items.

I don't blame you for not wanting to use it though. If you can find somtheing else that works I think that's great!

I really enjoyed reading this -- I am in your same shoes -- I made my first outfit about 6 weeks ago. It took me about an hour to figure out how to thread my machine the first time I sat down (I come from a family of non-sewers -- we don't even so on buttons). I wish I could take lessons -- but the one available is not convenient for me timewise. However, I am learning loads from the wonderful ladies & guys on this board.

I scored some Minnie dot fabric at Waldemart this week, and this is what I turned it into. Rebecca loves her twirl skirt, so I used the YCMT triple ruffle halter dress pattern, and changed the skirt to something more like the twirl skirt she loves. Is this officially a frankenpattern? (LOL, love that phrase!) We're off to the MK tomorrow...Labor Day is usually pretty quiet, so we've made kind of a tradition of going there the past few years.
