Ok, please be kind. I just found this thread and wanted to post pictures of some Cinderella dresses I made for DDs:

Those are great! I love the tattooed Cinderella, too. ;)

Hey ladies and gents, I need your help. I am a beginning sewer and I have been using my Mom's old machine which regularily "jacks" things up (it doesn't backstitch well, doesn't like transparent thread, some of the stitches don't work, etc.). It is probably 15 years old so I don't feel bad about getting a new one but I need advice as to which new one. I've heard a lot of you saying that you like the Brother machine that Waldemort sells for around $190 and that Costco has a similar machine for about the same price. I looked on Costco's website and it says that it has 10 feet with it. Does anyone know if it includes a ruffler foot? It doesn't say specifically what the feet are. Also, do you feel that this is a good machine for a beginner? I do plan on continuing sewing in the future, I'm really enjoying it. I welcome all of your opinions and thanks for the help!

Somewhat off topic but...

I have a shoe problem. To be more specific I have a problem buying too many pairs of shoes for Zoe. I was in her room earlier to change the sheets and ended up doing a little straigtening while I was in there. I noticed her closet was a mess so decided to organize her shoes and take out those I knew to be too small. After I was done, I saw just how many pairs she has - 22 plus 2 new pair I got today!!! Is there anyone else who can relate even if it's not specifically shoes?

My kids probably have too many clothes and shoes too. Certainly more than I ever had. A lot of clothes are hand-me-downs from friends so they are free. Then some I buy and some I make. I just hate not having something for them to wear. As far as shoes they probably have 8-10 pair...in different stages of wear and they may or may not fit exactly right. I tell you what. I bought pink disney crocs and they wore them almost everyday since May!

First, congrats on the trip! We went on a mother daughter trip for 4 days last year at Christmas and it was amazing!
Here is something I saw on ebay. It was overalls, but you could use this applique on anything.

I'm glad I have inspired someone! Just don't compare my work to Lisa's! I have just started sewing.

I love the 3-D Santa hat...great idea!

I was thinking the same thing but would you still do the stripwork jumper if you had already done this too.

Backtoschooldress1.jpg

I just don't want her going to school and all the teachers thinking "man does this lady know how to sew anything else"?
Actually I doubt anyone would say that cause so few people sew these days that when you tell someone you made an outfit, they are typically very impressed! I love that cute jumper!!! See even I say it!! :rotfl2:

Slightly OT -
DD had a princess party over the weekend. We decorated the "gazebo" on our deck to look like a ballroom. (Of course I forgot to take good pictures of all the decorations!) Here's a few pictures from her 5th birthday party.

Waiting for the arrival of some "special" guests!
IMG_1646.jpg

It was a fun day!
Wow what a great party!!! I love the decorations and the girls and boys look like they are having a wonderful time!!!!

MY PRINCES IS 5!!!!

DD turned 5 yesterday!! I made her a sock monkey dress to open on her birthday. She actually squealed when she opened it!!! Here's a picture from this morning. She wanted to wear it today (with a pair of shoes she got at her birthday party)

Beautiful job.....I love the different fabrics and the style is just darling! :thumbsup2

Here is some fabric that I picked up last year when my closest Hancock's went out of business. What would you do with it?

Halloweenfabric.jpg

I already have some of the solide lime green and some solid orange. I also have some candy corn material that I plan on making something with as well. Anybody got some creative ideas?
I have four or five coordinating fabrics so I am going to make a double layer panel twirl skirt with ruffles. Then I bought t-shirts, bling and ribbon to decorate the t-shirt and skirt with. I am really excited to get started!:yay:

I'm glad to know I helped. I know how frustrating it is to be stumped on how to do things or (in my case) how to undo things that went awry.
I haven't been around much this week because I'm being a good girl and have been very busy sewing this week. On Tuesday Zoe was invited to a VBS day camp. She was thrilled and I think I was almost as excited. She's gone from 9:30 to 4:30-5:00 each day and is having so much fun. I get to sew uninterrupted without feeling guilt that I'm neglecting her. She'll be camping with my sister and BIL this weekend so I'll have even more time to get caught up. I'm even planning a shopping trip to my favorite fabric store (which is HUGE). I haven't gone there alone in years! Of course, that could be very dangerous for my budget. :rolleyes1

So, here's one of the things I got done this week. I had so much fun putting this together and will definitely be using the string of lights design on other projects. I'm also thinking or other ways to use the idea of tree ornaments.

guess1.jpg

guess2.jpg

Wow very beautiful work....I love the fact that it wraps around the outfit! Very creative! Glad you have some "alone-time" to sew. I love to put on some nice music and sew in peace!!!  :rolleyes1

This is DD's halloween costume. I got it from etsy.com. I'm pretty sure it was made using the corset top and tutu twirl instructions from ycmt.

IMG_1597.jpg

IMG_1600.jpg

I asked DD if she wanted this one or one with a tutu. She said the tutu would be too itchy! The first pic. doesn't do it justice, it's quite full! I love this set, it turned out pretty cute!

Awesome.....love it!!

CUSTOM BOUTIQUE RESELL SHOE GIRL APPLIQUED OVERALLS 6 7

I might bid on these just on principal after this shoe discussion! If only it was closer to daughters size, and the hair was brown....

What days in December? We're going Nov 30-Dec 8 and going to MVMCP on Tuesday Dec 4. I made surprise :ssst: appts for dd6 & dd8 at the new BBB for 4:00 on that night, so they will be wearing a custom Christmas/Princess outfit but not sure exactly what yet. dd2 & dgd2 will be wearing red skorts (with leggings on standby in case it's cold) with Mickey appliques from holly fabric along with ribbon t's. Not super original, but I'm still getting the hang of this stuff!

We are going around the 7th of December. I was able to get resies for dinner at CRT. I would have rathered lunch or breakfast but we are not going to be picky! I think I am going to make DD Belle's Christmas dress. I just need to figure out how.

I asked Dh if I could tell DD today and he said okay. I asked DD a series of questions and she finally figured it out. She screamed. All night long she kept on saying, "It's almost Christmas Mommy!" Bless her little heart she is going to drive me crazy!

So please keep up the ideas. I am probably going to bring 4 customs. Also, what kind of weather should we prepare for???

I finally got DD's Cinderella dress finished.

th_2007_08290077.jpg

This is the petticoat that goes under it. I thought I would never be able to get it to poof out enough, but a few extra rows of net & about 1/2 a can starch & I think it'll do.

th_2007_08290078.jpg

The party's Saturday so I'll be able to post pics of her in it then.

That is beautiful! I can't wait to see pictures of it on your daughter!

Here is my DD's outfit for her 1st day of preschool (next Thursday). She wore it this morning to her playgroup -- it was ABC/123 day.

th_Backtoschooldress1.jpg

Parker just keeps spinning and twirling around in this. She absolutely looooooves it and that just makes my day!!!! It makes me forget all the mishaps and errors it has in it.

That is SOOO cute! Parker looks adorable in it!

I was going to try to respond individually to all the kind words of compliment and encouragement about Zoe, my designs and my dream business. Then I worried I'd miss some and appear to have slighted those posters. Instead I hope this more generic but still heartfelt post will be adequate. When I started posting to this thread, I was so thrilled to find so many people with at least 2 of the same interests... or obsessions - sewing for kids and Disney. I know I'm still a "newbie" on this thread but I really appreciate all the wonderful comments made.

I'd also like to say "keep up the good work" on your sewing and other crafting projects! It's so cool to see such enthusiasm for sewing. I think I know only one other person locally who sews for her daughter and she mainly seems to make holiday outfits. I'll try to answer questions when I can because I think it's important to pass along what I've learned. I hope Zoe wants to sew as she gets older but if not at least I'll know I've helped some other daughters if only in small tips and tricks. :)

Awww, we don't have "newbies" on this thread, just wonderful additions! You have been SOO generous, thank you so much!

Thanks for the siggie reminder, everyone. I didn't realize there was a line maximum. I wasn't over 50MB, but I was over 12 lines, so I took out my ticker. I'll just look at teresajoy's ticker to tell me how long 'til 15 HoJoKi do Disney! Besides, with my obnoxiously long multi-quotes, I really didn't need more stuff at the bottom!
That's funny, because I just deleted mine thinking, "Well, if I want to know how long it is, I'll just look at Heather's post." !!!!

I just bought a Whites brand ruffler foot for my Singer at JoAnn. It was $15 (regular price), but I had a 40% off coupon- YEEHAW!! It fit my machine and it seems to work. I'll have to have my sister show me how to use it a little better, though.
You buy a ruffler and I don't even get an email about it????? Corey showed me how to use ours. He watched one of the videos I have in the bookmarks site. Smart boy, that nephew of yours!

:lmao: :rotfl2: How could I possibly forget that you're H O T!! SSSSS!!! I love the comment about your "old" husband!
No call no email about the ruffler foot, THEN you forget this important peice of information about me!!! :snooty:
[/quote]

OK...... talk to me about the ruffler foot you are all speaking of! Are all machines able to use one, or just some? I have an OLD machine (a brother VX-1120 according to the box) my mom gave me. How do I go about finding out if my machine is compatible or not? I hate doing them by hand :headache: I always end up ripping the darn thread 99% of the time when I am trying to pull the gathers.

There is a picute in the photobucket account (link on the first page of this thread)under the fabrics, patterns and ideas (or something along those lines) of the different types of shanks on the machines. You can look a that to figure out which ruffler foot you need.
I'm an Abby! (officially an Abigail to tell the truth ...)

I actually don't know if I'm "allowed" to post over here. I'm 23, don't have kids and don't sew for kids. I sew for myself, but I like following this thread because it's the only sewing related thread I've found on the DIS. I did make my own Belle costume for MNSSHP...

th_IMG_1155.jpg

that pic was taken when it was still fairly unfinished, but it's the only pic I have right now ... but I have to say that I was able to wing my petticoat w/o a pattern thanks to the thought process behind the twirly skirts on here! (w/ just rows, not patchwork) so thank you all for that!
I love it!!! You need to get a picture of you wearing it too!
Waiting for the arrival of some "special" guests!

It was a fun day!

What a fantastic looking party! Where did you find the Princess backdrop for your gazebo?

Hiring the teenagers to be Belle and Cinderella is a great idea! did they allready have the dresses?

She's ADORABLE - I have about 6 months till my first is 5 Im dreading it - it seems like such a "big age".... Out of the infant and toddler department and into the little girls stuff etc... it's SCARY!!!!
Lydia will be 5 at the end of December, and now you've went and made me cry!!! Not that it takes much when I think of my kids getting older. Don't EVEN get me started talking about my 15 year old. :sad1:

Uhhhh, just please don't get rid of your Kenny photo ;) ....and post often! :rotfl:

You know, I NEVER understood why women thought Kenny was attractive...... UNTIL I saw that picture!

hahaha, I'd post a picture of me pointing to my hand but that requires the use of at least one hand ... so needing a hand count of 3 and having 2, I'll just tell ya - I live in Grand Blanc, so right now I'm in the middle-ish. Parents live in Port Huron, so I'm from east-ish and I went to college on the west side

where are you?

I know you weren't asking me, but we are from southwest Michigan, about a half hours south of Kalamazoo.

I'm sorry I can't comment on everybody's great outfits. I just finished sewing for our trip (we leave tomorrow) and I haven't even started packing. I am just not good at predicting how long it will take me to finish something. Anyway, these pictures are horrible because they are inside and dark, but here are the last things I made:

Strawberry Shortcake outfit:

th_100_1696.jpg

I cut out some embroidered strawberries from a skort outfit from Lands End that didn't fit:

And here is the Tinkerbelle nightgown. I was surprised at how easy it was and it looks sooooo much better than my first attempt at a nightgown. Of course, like Heather warned me, it was too short, so I didn't hem it. I have left over bias tape from the casings and I used that at the bottom. And in a homage to Heather, the Tinkerbelles are upside down on the sleeves. I honestly don't know how that happened because I sat down and thought how to place the pattern before I even pinned it! Oh well!

th_100_1692.jpg

I will miss you all while we are gone. We'll be there from Friday until Monday, so any lurkers just come up and say hello. Megan would love the attention!

Well, I must say!!! That was VERY nice of you to sew that beautiful Strawberry Shortcake outfit for Lydia!! How did you know she loved her?? Just PM me, and I'll send you my address! :lmao:

The Tink nightgown turned out so cute!! Nice touch with the sleeves!

I love your new signature pictures too!

Ok, please be kind. I just found this thread and wanted to post pictures of some Cinderella dresses I made for DDs:

These are beautiful! I can't wait to see what else you do!

heh heh- I thought I was the only one who quotes my own post!

Your siggie looks great!

Luxy- I LOVE that Jack Skelington outfit!!! It's adoralicious!

Stephres- I don't know if I've ever briefly mentioned this but I think your little girl is beeeeutiful! You could put her in a potato sack with rope straps and she'd still be a pretty princess! I think we should all do upside down prints....you know....so our kids can SEE the print better. It's for the CHILDREN! ((wink)) I really like the Strawberry Shortcake outfit too! Way to recycle those patches!

You should make a dictionary.

It should be called, "Utah Mama's Dictionary" -So you too can use super fun words!

BLASTED RUFFLER FOOT, I have a kenmore that is about 10 yrs old , bought the ruffler and the dang thing keeps jamming!!! any help out there? PLEASE!!

Look what I made
Disney002.jpg

Disney003.jpg

by the way, we are waaaaay out of diapers, but I love making these! It is something I can actually sew!!
And yes, I do have a polka dot fetish!

You don't want to know what happened when I made one of these - it's wasn't pretty... luckily I had a seam ripper and my patience cap on otherwise they would have become kitty litter box liners. Now that I figured it out it's easy though!

WOW - just was looking through disney fabrics on Voldemort - search Snow White Fabric its about $35 right now (I think it closes soon) it's really cool!

Can the not so secret secret santa person pm me??? I want to get you the information...

Well, since we are on the subject, my DD has 8 pairs of flip flops alone! we are taking 7 pairs of shoes on our cruise and none of those are in her closet right now. She has shoes that only match one outfit and will probably only be worn once or twice! She has enough underwear to not wear the same pair twice for 5 weeks. (yes, we counted) And 14 sets of pajamas. Are you feeling better about the shoes?:goodvibes

I love your new siggie, (minus the sponge bob) sorry, I don't like him! You don't hate me now, do you?:flower3:

When did you kidnap my DD's closet???

We cannot go to the mall without coming home with shoes!!! We went to buy ballet slippers and tap shoes. We ended up with four pairs. Three slippers black, white, and pink and the tap shoes. We HAD to get the right colors for the right leotards!

Underwear- I may have you beat! When the laundry is done I will let you know! I thought she was going to have a lot of more accidents during potty training. Turns out it only took a day. (It is a long story.)

We don't have a shoe problem, I'm not a shoe girl (but I am a purse girl, expensive ones at that, luckily the girls aren't into that yet).

But the webkinz are multiplying at a rate faster than I would like to admit and now we have to do the Webkinz charms (luckily for my wallet we haven't found them yet). But the kids do play with them a lot so I guess it's an okay addiction.

Alright, now you have kidnapped my closet! If my DH knew how much some of my bags cost he would pass out. I have been thinking about downsizing some of mine to :wizard: I have the wallets and cosmetic cases to go with too!

I just to be a Kate Spade junkie, and then it was Juicy Couture. DD has a Juicy. I know it is just wrong but, she looked so cute! Now I am having a torrid affair with Coach.

1. A friend of mine has a 17 year old sister (Belle) and she has a friend who LOOOOVES Cinderella. They were than willing to play the part! DD recogonized Belle, but tells everone that she brought Cinderella to her party!

2. I don't do buttons! The straps stretch - makes it easier to get on and off. There is elastic in the back too! Makes for a perfect fit!
IMG_1738.jpg

Thanks! DD saw the picture of your DD on her first day of school and said she wants to wear her new monkey dress too! I still have enough fabric left over to make a peasant top and a pair of decoupage jeans!

Too Cute!

I washed DD sock monkey dress today on the hand wash cycle and it held up!:thumbsup2

Admittedly they aren't expensive shoes and that number includes 5 pair of sandals that won't fit next summer and 3 or 4 pair of cheap flip flops. Still, I remember as a child feeling lucky to have 3 pair of shoes - sneakers, school shoes and dress shoes.

She has more clothes than she needs but since it's semi-business related, I don't think so much about that (except when they all seem to make it into the laundry at once and I know she didn't wear all of them). Is there anyone else who can relate even if it's not specifically shoes?

I can totally relate! I have been doing laundry the past couple of days and I have 4+ baskets OVERFLOWING with clothes. I don't even want to think of folding them because there is absolutely NO room in any of the 3 kids' closets(or mine for that matter), and they are not small closets either. My DS1 even has a portable hanger thing outside his closet right now because he has too many clothes. Granted alot of his were baby gifts, Christmas and recent Birthday gifts, but still...I get sick when I think of all of the junk we have around the house. My project for next week is to weed out all of the too small clothes and get rid of toys!!!! It is so ridiculous the amount of things we have in this house. I am sure that we could have gone to Disney at least 2 or 3 times instead of all of the clothes and toys we bought!!!!:confused3

I like the postcard idea too! Be neat if we could get all 50 states!. I am willing to send out 50 postcards from here.
I'm willing to send some postcards from Louisiana. I think there are only 2 of us from here.

DS's class is trying to collect postcards from each state. If anyone is willing to send one, PM me and I'll give you the address.

Ok, please be kind. I just found this thread and wanted to post pictures of some Cinderella dresses I made for DDs:

They're beautiful (the dresses and the princesses)!! But I'm curious since I know jfulcer is a guy...did you make them or your wife?

My daughter has at least 20 pair and has yet to wear a single pair:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Of course she's 4 months and they were passed on from my sister. I have up to size 4's I think. Seriously though I've not put shoes on her yet not sure how she'll feel about them in the fall:confused3

I'm with you on this one. Really I'm indifferent to him but I refuse to let my boys watch him (7 & 5) They tell me all the time the when they grow up they're going to let their kids watch him:laughing:

Just wanted to comment on the new pic....Very cute!!
We are in a shoe buying nightmare right now. She's not walking and it isn't cold yet, so for now they're just for decoration but her foot is teeny. 3 narrows are too big for her. So for now we have no shoes.

You are so sweet with the picture comments. You're my new best friend ;)
Seriously, some of the kids on this thread (yours included) are so photogenic. My kids go loony when I pull the camera out. I rarely get pictures of them that I like.

But it is good to be an LSU fan tonight :cheer2: . Are there any other football crazy ladies on here?

For all you ladies that love the smocked dresses if you go to Voldemort and put in NWT smocked you will find a lot of Disney ones. I saw them while browsing and thought of you ladies.

I think there's a 12-step program for this :rolleyes1

I think I can say the Serenity Prayer with you ;) .
