Dh ok'd "Disney in December Very Merry Christmas Weekend Getaway" OMG!!!!

I need some really super cute Christmas custom ideas. The only thing I want to stay away from are overalls. DD does not fit in them well. The girls are 4T and 12-18 months. See I new I bought all that extra Minnie dot for a reason.

What days in December? We're going Nov 30-Dec 8 and going to MVMCP on Tuesday Dec 4. I made surprise :ssst: appts for dd6 & dd8 at the new BBB for 4:00 on that night, so they will be wearing a custom Christmas/Princess outfit but not sure exactly what yet. dd2 & dgd2 will be wearing red skorts (with leggings on standby in case it's cold) with Mickey appliques from holly fabric along with ribbon t's. Not super original, but I'm still getting the hang of this stuff!

May I use this idea for something for myself? I  it!!

I'm an Abby! (officially an Abigail to tell the truth ...)

I actually don't know if I'm "allowed" to post over here. I'm 23, don't have kids and don't sew for kids. I sew for myself, but I like following this thread because it's the only sewing related thread I've found on the DIS. I did make my own Belle costume for MNSSHP...

Of course you're welcome here!!!!! I love your Belle dress, great job! My dd6 is an Abigail too!

The princesses painted the girls nails and gave the boys tattoos.
th_IMG_1654.jpg

OMG how did you get princesses? DD6 has a bday on the 29th of Sept and she would absolutely  to have Cinderella at her party!!!!!!

The pattern is from ycmt. It's the stripwork jumper. (I modified the back)

For the staps, I cut elastic the length I wanted the straps. Cut the fabric almost double the length of the elastic. Made the straps and inserted the elastic (like a casing) and secured the ends. I like the straps that way too - it has a little "give" to them!

Did you have to have buttons using this modification? I like this idea!

BTW - I loved your sock monkey outfit! I got my fabric the day before you posted your outfit! It gave me the motivation to get it done!!

Oh, that makes me so happy! Thanks for the tips on the straps. Our daughters are just adorable! It is nice to know you can make something like this will a fat quarter pack (and a yard.)

I will have to let DD know their is a new Princess Sock Monkey in town!

CASE away! :) While I wouldn't want to see an almost identical version of this made to sell, I don't have a problem if people use elements for their own purposes. KWIM? I get my inspiration from many sources so I certainly can't fault someone from getting inspiration in a similar way. :goodvibes

Make something to sell? Me? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Now, that's funny! I understand where you're coming from, though, but believe me when I say that I'm nowhere near good enough to sell anything I sew!!!! I won't be making that exact outfit, but I like the idea of the string of lights and ornaments!

Wow! I really admire that :goodvibes

I need to check out your customs - you would love me! I can't sew at all!!

I bought the one in the picture, and that's exactly how its done. It's very full. She said she used 100 yards of tulle! If each strip is about 2 feet long, I guess that's possible. I can take pictures of the waistband if you think it might help. I thought I had some on my computer, but I can't find them now. :confused3

Probably 100 yards of 6in wide tulle..I know I used 50yds to make one for my daughter and she's only 4 months old:) You can get it anywhere but for the best color selections you may want to check on line...The same place that carries the ric rac also sells tulle. That's where I ordered mine from...It ran about $2.50 for 25 yards....Let's see if I can find the website real quick.....

Ok here you go www . jkmribbon . com/tulle

what the coupon code for on YCMT? I've never seen that?

Can you PM a user id? thanks

I'm sorry I can't comment on everybody's great outfits. I just finished sewing for our trip (we leave tomorrow) and I haven't even started packing. I am just not good at predicting how long it will take me to finish something. Anyway, these pictures are horrible because they are inside and dark, but here are the last things I made:

Strawberry Shortcake outfit:

I cut out some embroidered strawberries from a skort outfit from Lands End that didn't fit:

And here is the Tinkerbelle nightgown. I was surprised at how easy it was and it looks sooooo much better than my first attempt at a nightgown. Of course, like Heather warned me, it was too short, so I didn't hem it. I have left over bias tape from the casings and I used that at the bottom. And in a homage to Heather, the Tinkerbelles are upside down on the sleeves. I honestly don't know how that happened because I sat down and thought how to place the pattern before I even pinned it! Oh well!

I will miss you all while we are gone. We'll be there from Friday until Monday, so any lurkers just come up and say hello. Megan would love the attention!

I'm so glad to hear you say it was easy! I just bought that pattern! Very nice job and have a great time!!!!!!!! BTW, your dd is so beautiful!!!

OT: I'm having the hardest time resizing my siggy! :headache: I resized it in paint before I uploaded it to photobucket, then resized it in photobucket. When I right-click on it on the photobucket site it says it is 4301 bytes, but after I add it to my sig and check it there it says it's 49000+ :confused3 Any tips?

Nevermind, I think I fixed it!

heh heh- I thought I was the only one who quotes my own post!

Your siggie looks great!

Luxy- I LOVE that Jack Skelington outfit!!! It's adoralicious!

Stephres- I don't know if I've ever briefly mentioned this but I think your little girl is beeeeutiful! You could put her in a potato sack with rope straps and she'd still be a pretty princess! I think we should all do upside down prints....you know....so our kids can SEE the print better. It's for the CHILDREN! ((wink)) I really like the Strawberry Shortcake outfit too! Way to recycle those patches!

Somewhat off topic but...

I have a shoe problem. To be more specific I have a problem buying too many pairs of shoes for Zoe. I was in her room earlier to change the sheets and ended up doing a little straigtening while I was in there. I noticed her closet was a mess so decided to organize her shoes and take out those I knew to be too small. After I was done, I saw just how many pairs she has - 22 plus 2 new pair I got today!!! Admittedly they aren't expensive shoes and that number includes 5 pair of sandals that won't fit next summer and 3 or 4 pair of cheap flip flops. Still, I remember as a child feeling lucky to have 3 pair of shoes - sneakers, school shoes and dress shoes.

She has more clothes than she needs but since it's semi-business related, I don't think so much about that (except when they all seem to make it into the laundry at once and I know she didn't wear all of them). Is there anyone else who can relate even if it's not specifically shoes?

It's Cool!!!! 100 YARDS??? My Walmart charges about $1 per yard for Tulle.....:scared1: Looks easy to do!
I'm in process now of making one for DD8. She wants it almost ankle length. I bought 8 yards of regular tulle on the bolt and plan to go back for white and some sort of embellished tulle to mix in. I'll let you know how much I end up using. I cut it today and it didn't take very long at all.

Ok, I'm confused. I thought Voldemart was eBay. Could someone PM me the nicknames for all the places to get sewing goodies?
I'm confused too:confused3 I did mean Waldemart. Is that right??

Well, since we are on the subject, my DD has 8 pairs of flip flops alone! we are taking 7 pairs of shoes on our cruise and none of those are in her closet right now. She has shoes that only match one outfit and will probably only be worn once or twice! She has enough underwear to not wear the same pair twice for 5 weeks. (yes, we counted) And 14 sets of pajamas. Are you feeling better about the shoes?:goodvibes

i am just posting a generic comment::
i love all the outfits posted and the adorable kiddos as well.:goodvibes
I love your new siggie, (minus the sponge bob) sorry, I don't like him! You don't hate me now, do you?:flower3:

We don't have a shoe problem, I'm not a shoe girl (but I am a purse girl, expensive ones at that, luckily the girls aren't into that yet).

But the webkinz are multiplying at a rate faster than I would like to admit and now we have to do the Webkinz charms (luckily for my wallet we haven't found them yet). But the kids do play with them a lot so I guess it's an okay addiction.

Look what I made

by the way, we are waaaaay out of diapers, but I love making these! It is something I can actually sew!!
And yes, I do have a polka dot fetish!

2.Did you have to have buttons using this modification? I like this idea!

1. A friend of mine has a 17 year old sister (Belle) and she has a friend who LOOOOVES Cinderella. They were than willing to play the part! DD recogonized Belle, but tells everone that she brought Cinderella to her party!

2. I don't do buttons! The straps stretch - makes it easier to get on and off. There is elastic in the back too! Makes for a perfect fit!

Thanks! DD saw the picture of your DD on her first day of school and said she wants to wear her new monkey dress too! I still have enough fabric left over to make a peasant top and a pair of decoupage jeans!

We have a company here called Kopy cats and they will be anyone you want from super hero to princesses. We used their hula girl for our luau 2 years ago, she was amazing! Check your phone book, I'm sure you have the same thing in your area.

Here is a photo of the hula girl

The tutu itself is probably about 12" long. (DD is only 3, so its sort of small.) So I'm guessing if you take the length you want it and double that, then add maybe an inch or two for the knot/tie, that would work.

Hope this helps!

Did she stitch it as well? I was thinking about doing a pirate outfit for DD for MNSSHP. Is it the 6" tulle strips?

I love that outfit, it's gorgeous!
