Ok, well since i started this thread i have like many others, decided i want to learn to sew. Let me just start out saying i have ZERO experience, ok well a home ec class in 9th grade, but i dont remember much.
We are going to wdw in one month. I plan to get the brother cs6000i this weekend. I have a few questions...
1. What are the easiest directions for the pillowcase dress? I want to do the ones with ribbons at the shoulders.

2. Does anyone have a pattern for some capris or shorts with a ruffle on the bottom. Something easy and that will be small enough for my little squirt.

4.Am i better off trying to do an applique tshirt or attempting a shirt something like this:

3. I also really like this, does anyone know the pattern #. I would prefer not to have the open back though...

Thank you for any help. I did make pillows this weekend on an old machine of my SIL. I need to practice a lot more though.......

That is my DD in the 2nd picture and the pattern I used was this one: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5083.htm?tab=infants_toddlers_children&page=4

It has the directions for a plain back and the split back with ties.

I have also used this pattern for the plain back too: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5351.htm?tab=easy_stitch_n_save&page=2

These patterns are sooooo easy. I have made the pants capri length and full pants too!

Here are some of the clothes that I have made with those patterns.

Ok, I am going to be making this soon:

Question...Should I use the standard red gingham as shown or use this gingham:

redblack.jpg

Keep in mind that the outfit has to match this one:

If I use the red/black gingham, will it match my daugther's outfit? Which one looks better?

I vote for the red and white...It will match! The red with black gingham would coordinate but not quite match. VERY cute! Good luck!

Wow!!! This is fantastic. They look so perfect. Will you share tips on how you made your shirt?

It is SO SO simple! I purchased a bejeweler tool at Michaels (about $10 regular price - used a 40% off coupon). This is what the tool looks like outside of the box that it came in. You can see that it came with several different tips (in the clear ziploc bag) to accommodate different sized crystals. For this project, I used 5 mm crystals.

For this shirt all I did was take the pattern that was posted several pages back (sorry, I'm having a hard time locating it right now), print it out to the size that I wanted it on the tee. I attached it to a piece of cardboard and cut the mickey shape out. Then I put a little bit of adhesive on the back of the cardboard (just enough to stick it down for a short amount of time, but so that it wouldn't slip around) and put it on the shirt where I wanted the design to be. Following the directions included with the stones, I "traced" the mickey head with the rhinestones.

There are times listed in the rhinestones. I just sorta played with it until I felt like they were stuck. I ended up heating each stone for five seconds on to the shirt, and it worked well.

This is a source that I found for rhinestones that seems to have great prices.

Welcome, its hard to just watch around here. I used this pattern for a pillowcase dress. I don't know if its the easiest but I like the elastic in the neckline.

My hotfix crystals just came in and I finished up my tee! I really like how it turned out. It was SO simple! Now I need to make one for my DD to match, and now my mom wants one too!

Oooo! I like! Can you get the loose crystals at any local stores or just online?

I purchased my original stones at Michael's, and I think Hobby Lobby carries hotfix stones as well. My problem seemed to be that I used a lot more stones than I thought I would need. When I went back to Michael's they didn't have any more stones, and I had to track down the ones that I needed to match up what I had started. Just to give you a point of reference, the original stones came in a pack of 18 stones and cost $3.99 each. I purchased 2 packs. I ended up using 78 stones total on this tee, and when I ordered my second set of stones, I paid $6.50 for 72 stones (and free shipping!). Much better deal. The website that I listed above is even less expensive, and they have stones that are even less than Swarovski. They're flat cheap! And free shipping!

J/K it's really cute! I'm making something almost identical, but in purple, white and gold. I'm making bloomers for the summer and pants for cooler weather.

Well, I can say the bodice is created about the same as the corset top I shared. I shorten it, change the back to have elastic in casing instead of shirring and make the straps so they can button but otherwise they are identical. If you can do that, it's not too hard to add the skirt section... although I won't attempt to try to explain how I did the tiered ruffles because I need to keep some "trade secrets". :rolleyes1

I can certainly understand that, you've been VERY generous with the directions allready!! Thank you!

To be honest, that dress was one I kind of made up as I went along. I don't remember all the steps to even begin to document them. LOL Unless I get another request for something like it, I probably won't make another one. I really prefer dresses like this for my DD if I'm making her something dressy.

What are you all lining your bodices with? Most of DD's lined bodices are a thin, almost see through material. Is there a name for this or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Oh, they have this one motif that is super cute!

I think my DD may need this for our trip...or just everyday!
What I don't know is if that is just the pattern or a completed set ready to go.

Thanks!

Usually, I use a soft white cotton solid. Sometimes the white wouldn't work so I use a color close to the bodice color. For example if the bodice is a print with a red background, I use a red solid cotton for the lining that matches as closely as possible the red of the print.

My dad just retired from Continental...He was with Eastern before that...

He was with Eastern? He is lucky he got out and found another job with Continental. It use to be if you worked for an airline, you were set for life. Not anymore. I'm still happy dh still has a job while I am adding on to my nurses degree. He said he was going to retire when I graduate and become a stay at home dad. Yeah right. :lmao:

Thanks! My bodice is white and I have plenty of the fabric, it was just pricey and I thought about using something else. I'm not sure what I bought but it's a very soft cotton from an heirloom shop. I'll use it, though. She'll be wearing this outfit a lot over the next few months.

I was going to make some bloomers for it for summer but she already had too many clothes and I didn't figure I needed to add to the madness!!! I might make her some capri's for when it starts getting cooler.

BTW - I haven't forgotten about pm'ing you my pics. I have been out of town since Thursday and it has been one thing after another. I'll get them to you soon -- I promise!
