Eeyore's tiara - That nemo outfit is cute! I don't think the eyes look bad. You did a great job.

spongemommie05 - Your princess dress is cute too! I love that fabric it fascinates me how there is no background to it. I stare at it forever. Yeah I am weird sometimes. The ribbon is cool especially the way you did the back. I hadn't seen anything like that before, so creative.

Heather - Awwwww Simba is adorable! That would be so cool with the Photopass Simba picture. Do you know which one I am talking about? You get it at the AK and they put simba into it like you are holding him.

Tom - Another cute outfit! How dare work keep you away. We could write you a note next time. ha ha ha.

Well I am off to go hem my minnie skirt. It is so funny I keep calling it that and of course it sounds like miniskirt which I would NOT be wearing. Nobody needs to see that!

I am also making a diaper pouch at some point.

Love the complete outfit!!! Can you share how you did the ribbon on the socks and bottom of the shirt? Thanks!!

Not sure how it's professionally done, but this worked for me...

For the shirt I measured all the way around then multiplied by 1.75 to get the amount of ribbon needed. Then just sew right sides together while stretching the shirt. I did it that way because the shirt had been cut to dds waist length. If I hadn't cut it, I would've sewn the ribbon to the back of the shirt hem so that it hung down. Make sense?

For the socks, just about the same thing. But you sew RIGHT side of ribbon to WRONG side of sock. I measured all the way around the sock and multiplied by 3 to cut ribbon length. When you get to the end, unfold and sew ends of ribbon together using zigzag stitch.

I LOVE THE NEMO OUTFIT!!! You did a fine job.

Can anyone tell me the right way to make a casing for the elastic on my skirts? Also how do you stitch the elastic together? I mean I have "my" way of doing it and it works, but what is the "right" way to do it. You know so it looks good? Thanks and keep up the good work. I hope to be able to accomplish more now that my DD is off to school all day I can't believe how fast they grow...as soon as my DS starts preschool (after Labor Day) I will hopefully have a few days a week that I can actually accomplish something !!!

What do ya'll think? My older dd's dont want a skirt, they want capris. Doesnt that involve opening seams on the capris?

I wanted to comment again on your Nemo! I love the applique, I envy anyone that can do that! They look fine! I might try something for my diaper case, since I'm too scared to try to applique anything else!

Is this one piece or two?

I can't help on the capris, I've yet to do those. They are on my list, though.

Another dumb question. I was planning to do a tiered ruffle skirt for my DD and I was wondering, how do you ruffle the two tiers together if they are not the same length?!?!? BTW I do have the ruffler foot. I am just having trouble visualizing (sp?) and I figured it is much easier to just ask!!!! TIA

I used the instructions for the "stacked bow". It's really east to do. I added a couple extra stacks in the Mickey bow and the bottle caps are from the scrapbooking section of AC Moore (I've seen them at JoAnn's too).

My Trip to NYC-

I am going to leave out all the drama. (Missing train, DD crying a lot, MIL complaining a lot, sunburnt lips, and really sore feet.) The garment district is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My MIL and her sis went to Grease. Hannah and I went to the World of Disney and ribbon shopping. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast. Hannah picked out the Sleeping Beauty gown and managed to get the purse, gloves and cape too. I still do not know how she swung that????

We had two hours to go ribbon shopping. The first shop we went to was called So Good. And it was SO GOOD! OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! I fell in love. I do not have pics but it is a hole in the wall with nothing but fantastic ribbon. (I will take pic of my new ribbon later.) He was so generous with the yardage. He said normally he give a least a yard over. (He may have been flurting with me know that I think about it. ) He gave Hannah free yellow velvet ribbon and extra red polka dot ribbon. My total came to $67 and he just said $60. I handed him the cash and we were on our way.

Next we went to Tinsel Town Traders. They have been featured in ME Home Comp mag and Martha. They are vintage fab! I could have spent two hours just in there. We ended up buying only a vintage flower. I am going to make a pink for a sundress out of it. They had fabric that was vintage French gorgeous fabric for $200 a yard!

You could not really take photos but I snuck a flower wall pic.

Next we went to MJ Trims. This was a floor to ceiling warehouse of trim and ribbon. Some of it was great some was really expensive! I actually bought one yard of ribbon for $11. Very cool place. I do not know how I will ever go back to Jo Ann's or gasp Wal Mart!!!

As we were walking I noticed the Atlas. That is where everyone from Project Runway lives. We took a pic.

Next we went to Mood. That is where everyone on Project Runway shops. Two floors! For NY designer fabric I expected to be more expensive. The cheap stuff was $14 a yard and the average was $30 a yard. Hannah was pretty much spent by Mood so we searched only one floor to find polka dots. It was cool because in Mood I was treated like a designer. Everyone buying fabric were clothing designers. The girl who cut our dots thought my three year old picked a very sheik fabric. Only in NYC can you have a fashionista at three. Since it is designer fabric we only needed half a yard so my total was $5!!! Woo Hoo.

As we were leaving I spotted on little store. We had about five minutes so we ran in and I found the best Epcot ribbon ever. I have to take photos to show everyone.

A friend was saying to make the front casing and run ribbon through it and this would go around the neck. Then cut the back down and add in elastic, but my question is how you finish the sides going down to the back and how do you determine at what angle to cut it toward the back.

Any info would be GREAT!

1st of all thanks for the great praise on jayedyn's dress....
the back (i actually loop it through the 1st two and then cross it over through the 3rd ribbon then to tie it , i just tie a knot on the one side and then the other same thing then pull tight... ) i hope that helps i am not good at explaining...

I finally finished the Baby Simba dress for Tessa!! The dress pattern was fairly easy, but the applique gave me some fits (the white fabric kept unraveling as I sewed it onto the brown fabric). It's not perfect, but she loves it and so do I! The dress was really big (mu-mu-ish) on the top, so I shirred the back to make it fit a little better. I also skipped the zipper in the pattern because it really didn't need it. Here it is!

The baby Simba is just SOOOOOOOOO cute!!!!!! Lydia loves it, and Corey said, "Whoa!" Which in 15 year old boy language means, "My goodness, Mother, Aunt Heather really is quite talented, isn't she?" You need to say that in a slight British accent to get the full affect)

Arminda is sleeping, or else I am sure she would be oohing and ahhing over it too. Here, I will do an imitation of her, "OOOOHHHHH, that is SOOO cute!!!! It reminds me of Saywer!!"

So Good- He was right. At least over a yard extra each. All the ribbon was $2- $3 a yard. I added it up (without the extra yardage) and it came out to be over $100. I am so happy with $60.

MJ Trimming- Other than the embroid. I was supposed to get 3 yards and she only cut 1 yard. At least I did not pay for three.

Finally, this is from the extra store.

So, I added it up and my little garment district excursion cost $108. That is better than I thought. I majorly splurged. We do not go often so I think it was okay! It could have been way worse!

I made a halter top and shorts from that pattern, and they have a halter dress as well. I think it would be easy enough to make a halter pillowcase dress with a casing in the front and elastic in the back. It might help to use a pattern for cutting the sides. As for finishing the sides, I would use bias tape or hem along the sides before you put the casings in.

Hope this helps...sounds like a cute idea.
