WOW Tom!!! That dress is amazing and super cute  I think I might take up sewing before I have kiddies, so when they go to WDW they will look as cute as your daughter!! :cutie:

Everyone's outfits have been an inspiration to us all!

I know that I was the first male poster on this thread. I bet I am the first male sewer on this thread also.;)

DW used to sew all the time, and I would occasionally help her with threading the machines, and the general maintenance and cleaning of them. Well, I guess I kinda taught myself too in the process.:rolleyes1

DW has developed skin allergies and now finds it hard to sew. She still wanted DD to wear customs at the park and for dinners, so I decided that I would give it a try.

Anyway, here is what we came up with.

Also, I just have to say that the bookmarks on the first page of this thread were a GREAT help. It answered some questions that I had, and also saved me some bucks on custom bows for DD. DW used to buy them on the popular auction site, but now, we figured out how to do them ourselves!

This was also the first time that I had done any kind of applique work. I practiced on some scraps, until I got the hang of it. I think it turned out o.k.

Mickeydress007.jpg

So.... should I trudge on and try to make some more? DW has about 20 rubbermaid storage containers full of fabic and "stuff". I hate to see it all go to waste! :sad2:

FYI =
I MADE these outfits for Austinsmommy/iluvwdw4ever =)!

Thanks for all the compliments!

No transfers, iron-ons or pre-made/computer appliques/embroideries.
All were made with custom design&made hand-cut&pieced appliques :)

I made the pattern for the twirl skirt as I went along.

Please, PM me directly w/ more detailed
or private questions/referrals. =)
I'll T-R-Y to answer them ASAP ...
I'm quite busy w/my 2 "differently-abled" little girls.

Thanks again! Good Will To All! :goodvibes

Wow!!!! You have AMAZING Talent! Care to spare an ounce or 2?:goodvibes

PrincessLeighsDaddy ~ You did an AMAZING Job! :cool1: DD loves the dress! She wants to know why her Daddy can't do it! :lmao:

2cutekids ~ Nice Work! Love the Cindy!

Heather~ Great job! You are really cooking now!

OT we have had some bizzare things happening with our 15 month old.. She has a 6 month gross motor delay and both the Pediatrician and the Pediatric Neurologist know why... Her PT has been pushing really hard and she has developed some pretty intense fatigue. It is causing her to have an eye roll in and sometimes up... Yesterday we thought she may have had a seizure but the Docs think not.. I just haven't have had a lot of time to create but I am living vicariously through you all! Say a prayer for us !

Thanks Nana for pming me about the friends fabric!

When I made the skirt, I used a half yard of tulle and it made two layers. I just attached it to the top ruffle and gathered and sewed to the back of the skirt:

100_1554.jpg

I think I should have made it more full, using twice as much tulle (a full yard). That would have made four layers. It turned out almost the same length as the back of the skirt, so I cut triangles out of it so it would look more piratey. Feel free to pm of you have any more questions, I'll try to help!
Steph,

Thank you so much! I've been staring at the pictures trying to count layers of tulle!

That looks like the same basic pattern I'm using. After I opened the pattern I wondered I almost retunred it - it's cutting 3 rectangles for the pieces! I can almost do that with my eyes shut!

Deb

Can someone help me out with putting a layer of tulle in a skirt?

I have a pattern for a 2-tier skirt that I want to add tulle to the middle of. Under the top layer, just a tad shorter than the overall length. Like so many that have been shown lately.

Those of you that have made these, how many layers of tulle did you use? I'm thinking two for me; I'm afraid three will have too much volume.

And did you have it the same length as the lower tier? Or was there more length there, for more gathering and more volume?

Better yet, if someone can point me in the direction of a website or pattern I'd love it. I've been stalled for a week on this because I can't seem to make a decision on this. I'd like to get to this tonight, so I appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Deb

Deb,
For this skirt, I used 2 layers of tulle and a total length of 3 yards. I gathered the tulle just as you would any other layer and attatched it to the bottom. Then I attatched the top layer and gathered all 3 layers to fit the waistband. I think with the tulle skirts, you need a waistband to prevent bulkiness. I started with the tulle a little longer than the bottom layer and then trimmed it after the skirt was completely finished. I had originally planned to make it a little shorter than the bottom layer but it was pretty difficult to cut even. The only pattern I've seen is on YCMT.com. HTH!

Hello All,
I haven't posted in awhile but I have been lurking and enjoying all the great outfits.

I have a few things in the works but nothing completed yet. I should have the Monsters Inc twirl set finished today. Destiny really loves that movie for some reason. She wants to watch it at least 3 or 4 times a week. Maybe because she can actually understand what Boo is saying. :confused3 I'm also planning a few more outfits. I need to use all this fabric I've collected over the past few months.

I haven't posted in a while either. I cracked up about the Boo comment. Our sitter says that my DD2 is just like Boo. She sounds exactly like her and she is always getting in to everything. I always think of her as Stitch! :rotfl:

Here's a picture of the ice cream fabric I found. I'm thinking maybe twirly skirts with an applique top. We'll see though!

I love that fabric! Pink is my favorite color and ice cream is my vice! That is perfect twirly skirt fabric!

Don't know you yet but I totally believe in the power of prayer and me and my kids will remember your sweet dd in our prayers today.

Holy smokes you guys have been BUSY! I've been in bed the past couple days with a nasty stomach bug. I check in to find that you guys have been busier than EVER! I have so much to catch up on.

You, PrincessLeighsDaddy, could NOT be any cuter. I LOVE the dress and the bows. You did a beautiful job!!! What pattern did you use? Keep up the great work, I can't wait to see what you do next!

Is there any way I can pay you to make me one of these for my daughter. It is so cute and we are going to disney in September. I wish I knew how to make this stuff.

I was just answering the question on who made those outfits that iluvwdw4ever had posted. :)

Just about any pix can be used as a pattern for applique, really :)
Even clipart off the net.

I'm no expert, but this is how I do it & it works well for me. :)
I just make a black & white line drawing of what I want to applique, enlarge it to the size I need & use it as a pattern.
Just about any picture will do ... Sometimes, it makes it alot easier to make some drawings into an applique, by removing some of the super-fine-detail . :) ... tiny bits look best embroidered or painted on, by hand (most of the time)

There's many ways to turn a picture on paper into an applique =
here's two ...

1. Use a light table ... You can cut & piece the fabric pieces by hand to make the design (I use wonder under to hold it all together), overlap ALL pieces touching (KEY!), and make sure you cover all overlaps when you satin stitch (zig zag) the design = so that all the fabric stays intact.

Personally, I adhese all my fabric with under wonder first, then use the light table to trace the design IN REVERSE from the paper design to the back of my fabric ONE PIECE AFTER ANOTHER, cut them all out *with tiny bits of overlap allowance added* ... then when I attach them together, I take those pieces and use the light table to line them all up on the paper design, before I press them together ... ... it's easier than it sounds/reads, really.

2. no light table = try this = Tape the REVERSE image paper drawing of the design to the back of a piece of fabric (lightweight, as a backer) ... take pieces of fabric that already had under-wonder on them, lay them ON TOP of the back fabric, turn it over & STRAIGHT STITCH through the design, on the lines of the picture. Turn it back over & TRIM the new fabric semi-close to that stitched line. ... Repeat this over & over with all the fabric pieces you need are in the design. ... when you are done, remove the paper image, press the design, put under wonder on the back, trim the design to ready it for application ... satin stitch all fabric edges in the design = poof!

It's magic. From paper to outfit.

either way, it's alot of work.
But With Practice, Anyone Can Do It. :)
Good Luck in your endeavors.

Oh my, that is the ultimate compliment but I'm no way experienced enough to be sewing for others. I would probably have a nervous breakdown because I would want every stitch to be perfect so for now, to keep my sanity, I only sew for my DD.

I do something similiar to your applique technique. I don't have a light table but use the living room lamp. It's a huge dome made of glass. So I just lay the image on the glass and presto, light table..LOL:rotfl:

Hey everyone!! I've been busy sewing as usual..Today I'm doing a huge shipment of a million things. so I have been packing up outfits today.

But I had the extra time to make a special cow outfit, for someone...LOL...

Your work is amazing! Thanks for the tips. What do you use as a stabilizer? I tried the iron on, tear away for the first time and couldn't keep it ironed on. Is there a trick to this?
