I do not even know where to begin with how much I love this outfit!!

If you do not mind I might make a version for my girls. I love the colors. Those are the colors of my girls rooms!

I do have a question for you. How did you make the top bows. Those are really cute! I would love to do those!

Copy all you want! As someone else had mentioned before, imitation is the best form of flattery!

DD picked out these colors. Her favorite color is pink and my favorite color as a kid was green. She wanted to use both of these colors since I was making it for her!

As far as the bows are concerned.

http://bowdesigns.50webs.com/pinwheel_bow.html

I will try to explain this the best I can.
First layer is a pinwheel bow(1 1/2" wide green and white dotted ribbon), second layer are just lengths of ribbon with the fish tail cut out and layered on (1 1/2" hot pink with dots). Third layer are the Layered Loopy bows, three sets of them.(3/8" White, hot pink, and hot pink with dots) Forth layer is another pinwheel bow.(1 " White) Finished off with a knot in the center using the hot pink with the dots 7/8" ribbon.
Hope this makes sense!

BTW - did you sew the bows on the dress or use swing back pins?

I sewed the bows onto the dress. I did not want them to fall off. I did heat seal the ends of the ribbons. The dress as well as all of her custom stuff is usually hand washed or washed on the gentle cycle, and hung to dry. DW did teach me that!;)

Everyone's outfits have been an inspiration to us all!

I know that I was the first male poster on this thread. I bet I am the first male sewer on this thread also.;)

Anyway, here is what we came up with.
Mickeydress001.jpg

So.... should I trudge on and try to make some more? DW has about 20 rubbermaid storage containers full of fabic and "stuff". I hate to see it all go to waste! :sad2:

Tom - you are too good to be true!!!! This dress is beautiful!! Your DW has taught you well!!! Thanks for posting directions for the bows! I've been trying to find directions for this style with no luck!! Thanks, and keep sewing!!

Thanks so much I just love these bows. I cannot wait to give them a try!! Oh no, something else to do!! :cheer2:

OK you guys. Be nice. DONT be honest ;) ...

This tube dress I did just to re-teach myself simple stitches. It's kinda cute in real life. :cutie:

Then. I got brave and went a leeetle bit over my head skill wise. I'll blame ALL of you for that...

Without a shirt underneath... (DD's name is Norah and she's turning 3 next month, in't she cuuuute?)

P7253608.jpg

I have a couple more projects staring at me. One has a LINING

Here's one she was especially cooperative with. This photo shoot took far too long. Me, being brilliant, did this when it was nap time.
Oh, Norah is just ADORABLE!!!!! The outfits are fantastic! I love the Ariel one!

I figured out how to applique! I am so excited. How does it look? I had to stitch over the edges twice to make it as thick as I wanted it.

Shorts to go with this top

IMG_4918.jpg

.
That turned out great!
A couple of questions.

1 - how do you applique?

and

2 - Does anyone have the template of the Mickey silhouette so I can try to applique.

TIA

Check out the bookmarks link, there are instruction in the tips and techniques section. Link in my siggy and on the main page of this trhead.

I don't know how far back it is, but someone on here had instructions for appliquing. Maybe they will repost it for you. It is a satin stitch, but there are different ways of doing it. Some use heat bond before appliquing and some don't.

Are you looking for the Mickey head? I think Castle has that one and it is posted back closer to the front of the thread. I'll see if I can spot it and let you know where it is if someone doesn't tell you first.A suggestion is that you look on the disboard design site for the mickey/minnie head!

mickey-jnmom.jpg

Hey, I found one!

Thanks for the Mickey head, I like that one a little better than the one I hd saved!

Hi Everyone...I want to make something with this fabric I have but I am not quite sure on what exactly. I was thinking maybe a twirl skirt, possibly one made out of strips using this fabric and maybe solid colors that match the circles??? HELP?? I would LOVE some cool suggestions!!!

Thanks!!!
1DisneyRareGlowcopy.jpg

Where did you get that fabric!! I love it!

Taa Daa! Now for DD to wake up so I can show her and have her try it on.
I have a sneaking feeling its to long.

My sewing machine was actually dusty when I got it out so its been awhile since I have done anything with it. But this went pretty well and pretty quick, you gotta love that.

poohpillowcase.jpg

aimeeg, Wow! You are making me realize how unorganized our packing is :)
I love the each day in baggies thing. That would make it easier for hubby to get the kids dressed each day!

This is an adorable dress! I love that fabric!

I've been working on some Easter outfits for 2 families and finally have some to show you. My daughter is the model and just got out of the shower, so excuse the hair. The first one is for my niece who is bigger than my daughter.

The next one is hers!

I also made this outfit for my 2 sons.
Ok I am going to try to post a couple of fabrics that I found. I haven't ever seen them on here before so I thought I would share...I hope the pics post!

The camoflauge and red mickey are from Hobby Lobby and I found the plaid mickey across the street at a garage sale. It is a curtain or shower curtain and the best part is I got the fabric for $.25 can you believe it?!?!?!? The pirate maps are from Joann.

Wow! $.25!!!!! What a great bargain!!!! These are really cute!

Here is one of the 2 skirts I did for my older 2 daughters.

They are going to be matched up with the basic Mickey head ribbon t-shirts when I make them.

My twins will be wearing these if you can remember.

Im thinking I may even make myself a ribbon T. :thumbsup2

-Michelle

Cute!!! They are all going to look so cute!!

Everyone's outfits have been an inspiration to us all!

I know that I was the first male poster on this thread. I bet I am the first male sewer on this thread also.;)

DW used to sew all the time, and I would occasionally help her with threading the machines, and the general maintenance and cleaning of them. Well, I guess I kinda taught myself too in the process.:rolleyes1

DW has developed skin allergies and now finds it hard to sew. She still wanted DD to wear customs at the park and for dinners, so I decided that I would give it a try.

Anyway, here is what we came up with.

Also, I just have to say that the bookmarks on the first page of this thread were a GREAT help. It answered some questions that I had, and also saved me some bucks on custom bows for DD. DW used to buy them on the popular auction site, but now, we figured out how to do them ourselves!

This was also the first time that I had done any kind of applique work. I practiced on some scraps, until I got the hang of it. I think it turned out o.k.

So.... should I trudge on and try to make some more? DW has about 20 rubbermaid storage containers full of fabic and "stuff". I hate to see it all go to waste! :sad2:

Oh geesh, you've got me all teary eyed reading your post! I'm a big sap, ask my sister, but then again, so is she! How sweet of you to take over for your wife! You did a fantastic job!!!! I love the bows you did!

I am so glad my bookmarks site helped you out! I spend so much time getting that thing organized that it's really nice to hear that I am actually helping someone!

That is awesome!!! love it ! Keep sewing you are doing a great job!

Why yes, actually I do!:rotfl: His name is Tim!

How funny!

I am really impressed with your design. Everything about it is adorable!!!!!! I hope you at least let your wife be in on the planning stages of your dd's outfits. I feel kinda sorry for her since she had to give up her sewing hobby.

I can't wait to see what you make next!

I've always known that I' out of my legue here. But this confirms it. My days of packing the night before we leave (cause I can't sleep, like a kid on christmas eve) is OVER. Of course I probably won't ever pack this much, unless I'm going on vacation for 2 months!! I'm more of a "she can wear that twice" kinda gal. But nomore will DS9 ask what he's "supposed" to wear at 7am (to which my normall reply is " I don't care- be dressed in 5!!" and I'm always sorry I said that when he rolls out of the hotel in swin shorts, a shirt he wore yesterday-ketchup and all and different height socks!!!:rotfl: )

First: God Bless you! My hands could fall off and DH is NOT touching th sewing machine, especially not w/ anything pink. Apparently there is a 6 second rule whereby men turn into pink fluffy poodles if they hold anything girly for longer than that (I'm glad to see this myth dispelled!!)
2. Your dd is TRULY a princess as she has a daddy who clearly loves her bunches...I'm raising the bar.
3. If that was trudging I QUIT! The dress is fabulous and you give me hope as a first time bowmaker ( i've been putting it off!)

UTAHMAMA-The Ariel outfit is fantstic, though you won't catch us FL. girls w/ two shirts on at the same time:lmao: The less sleeve the better!!
and the shirring...Stop pretending your an amature!!

I finally "procured" a spiral twirl skirt pattern, though I think my intention for it has changed.
As someone mentioned the size of the minnie dot and through the revelation we had during the cuties dress making that DD's clothes are REALLY TINY I don't think it wise to cut the dots into even smaller strips. So probably a non-stripwork twirl top and some ruffly knickers.-IDK.

the swirly twirly/redondo style skirt- will then become either a) a multi-animal print skirt for AK (w/ a smaller red w/ white dot ruffle???) or b) a jo jo outfit for MGM which I had previously overlooked cause DD's more into Nick Jr (Bue, Dora, backyardigans) and we spend very little time at MGM. But I thought it would be a cute Jo Jo skirt!

HMM...

YOu know I think that's just what I've been missing!! All these instruction sites have just one typ of bow none of them give you layering tips!!! and we all know I'm a "follow the directions" kinda gal- don't make me actually think about any of this!!
Thanks for the breakdown!!

I wanted to share this - It's the 4th and 5th items I have made with my sewing machine it's one of the "cheap brother" machines from walmart. I am pretty happy with the way this turned out...

I couldn't get DD (4) to try it on 4 me - she wasn't in the mood to wear it to school today cause her friends would call it ugly - talk about a blow to a mom's self esteem... luckily I know it's a phase cause two days ago she LOVED the fabric. And excuse the crooked picture I couldn't get it to hang straight at 7 this morning!

I love these! I really like your daughter's Star Wars outfit! Too cute! What pattern did you use for the skirt?

Wow, everyone has made such great outfits!
I came here hoping someone could give me some advice.
My cousin sews a little, and has a sewing machine, and was hoping to make skirts for our Dinsey trip in August from some Disney fabric she found.
However, she's kind of new to it and doesn't have any patterns or anything.
So could anyone direct me to a site that would have patterns for miniskirts for teenagers?
Thanks!

PrincessLeighsDaddy--that dress is beautiful! Oh my goodness!
I've been lurking and getting ideas on this thread for a few weeks, but your dress made me post something.

Would you share which pattern you used? Because I need more patterns... :rotfl:
