PrincessLeighsDaddy--that dress is beautiful! Oh my goodness!
I've been lurking and getting ideas on this thread for a few weeks, but your dress made me post something.

Would you share which pattern you used? Because I need more patterns... :rotfl:

It took me awhile to come out of hiding too!

The top portion of the dress is New Look 6613

The skirt was improvised!;)

Tom, Your outifit is WONDERFUL ! ! ! I hear you say that you have a twin named Tim. You wouldn't happen to be from Toledo would you? ;)

WOOHOO I finally scored some "Friends around the world" fabric at my local Hancock store. I would really like some of the word fabric that went with it. Does anyone know what that is called? I could go back and search for days and probably still not figure it out....TIA
I also found some really cool camoflauge Mickey fabric from Hobby Lobby. I will try to figure out how to post and post it in a few minutes.

I have now decided that I "need" that fabric but our Hancocks is 45 minutes away in an area of Tampa I am not familiar with. Do you think DH would mind taking me on a road trip this weekend? I looked on the website, but I couldn't find it.

I've been working on some Easter outfits for 2 families and finally have some to show you. I also made this outfit for my 2 sons.

I am also working on some white polos with flip flop appliques on for the 3 adult women on the trip. They will also have some of the matching blue riobbon. Now what for the DHs???

I love this for a little boy! I have noticed that boys wear shorts at church all year long and this looks perfect: dressier than everyday but still comfortable.

Everyone's outfits have been an inspiration to us all!

I know that I was the first male poster on this thread. I bet I am the first male sewer on this thread also.;)

Anyway, here is what we came up with.

Also, I just have to say that the bookmarks on the first page of this thread were a GREAT help. It answered some questions that I had, and also saved me some bucks on custom bows for DD. DW used to buy them on the popular auction site, but now, we figured out how to do them ourselves!

Great job! You should definitely keep going: at the very least for your daughter, but for us too! I am thinking of lifting your design as well. Thank you so much for the ribbon site: I really am all thumbs when it comes to ribbons.

Here is my newest dress for DD5, not Disney, but could work for the Frog Prince. I also have a A line back to school shirt for DD7 but she is not home right now for pics so I will post it later.

I made my daughter a back to school outfit with frogs: she loves them! Beautiful dress!

here is my latest outfit-what do ya think?

Love the pirates! Perfect for a boy.

Well, it's back to work for me. I am making a tiered skirt for DD and sewed tier 3 to tier 1 instead of tier 2 so I had to rip out everything and start over. I don't know what I was thinking! Anyone do something like that?

Hi I have a few appliquing questions if anyone can help. I've been looking for shirts to do it on and can't seem to find anything without spandex in it. Is it ok to use shirts with a little spandex? The ones I've seen have been 95% cotten and 5% spandex. Would that be OK? Also when we were practicing it seems you see alot of the bobbin thread is that normal? Should I be using the exact same thread in the bobbin as the reg when I'm doing this? What brands of thread do you ladies use for this? Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

I can try to answer your question, if you applique on a t-shirt or other knit fabric (think stretchy) then you have to use a tear away stabilizer on the back. It would be the bottom of your layers. Stabilizer, shirt, applique.

About the thread, I always use the expensive thread :rolleyes1. I buy Gutterman. THey don't have it at walmart. I love it because it never breaks. I always use the same color bobbin as the thread I am sewing with. I don't think everyone does that. You can get more bobbins at Joann's or Hancock. Take one of your own with you to make sure you get the right ones. if you are sewing onto a white fabric or shirt though you could use white thread and it will show less.

If you can see the bobbin thread on the right side of your work then you need to adjust the tension on your machine. I think you have it too tight. Consult your machine's manual to see what to change.

I wanted to share this - It's the 4th and 5th items I have made with my sewing machine it's one of the "cheap brother" machines from walmart. I am pretty happy with the way this turned out...

I couldn't get DD (4) to try it on 4 me - she wasn't in the mood to wear it to school today cause her friends would call it ugly - talk about a blow to a mom's self esteem... luckily I know it's a phase cause two days ago she LOVED the fabric. And excuse the crooked picture I couldn't get it to hang straight at 7 this morning!

Arrrrgh!!! pirate: I now LOVE my cheap brother from Walmart! That is really cute!

Uh Oh, sorry she bruised your ego! I know who might want it if your dd wont wear it ;)

How about this? I'll sew some tops for your nieces and you can come :laundy: and clean the bathrooms. Sort of a barter system? I suppose you won't go for that since you already have to sew for your DD's. I am leaving for Disney next Friday so I've got no time!!

Maybe your nieces could help with some of the cutting and shopping? Send them to the fabric store to find their patterns etc.

The shorts would be very easy. I bought them for $6.99 at old navy, washed them, cut out the little square of fabric. Ironed Heat n' Bond Lite on the back then peeled the paper off the back and Ironed the square onto the shorts. Then I stitched around the square.

You have to use Heat n' Bond Lite not Heat n' Bond Ultra. Apparently Heat n' Bond Ultra will really gunk up your needle. Your fabric and your jeans, shorts, or whatever must be prewashed also to get all the starch out of the fabrics so it will stick well.

HEY! I have cleaned many a bathroom in my time. If it got me out of more sewing....:rotfl:

Thank youi for the instructions. I guess I need to take them to go find patterns with me. Easy to sew preferably at this point.

Only a week? :woohoo: Have a great time!

Beautiful work everyone! You have been busy today! This thread moves fast! I am going to try to comment on many things in one post. I hope I don't miss anyone.

Love the coordinating easter dresses. Very pretty.

The boys pirate shirt and shorts are adorable.

The girls pink pirate shirt is so cute, with matching shorts too!

Can't believe we have a dad sewing! What a cute dress. I love pink and green and rick rack. Very cute. Couldn't put a white dress on my DD though! She would wipe her hands on it! It wouldn't be white for long.
Thanks for posting the bow link I didn't have directions for that style and it is neat how you layered them. I thought the bows were for her hair! I didn't realize you attached them to the dress. Do you have some for her hair too?

Beautiful Applique work! The star wars stuff is adorable and unique! Love all the overalls. I am trying to make some of my own.

Thanks for the packing tips. Question though what do you do with all the Zip loc baggies? Throw them away after you get dressed?

I've had a frustrating day!! Got DD's much anticipated Cinderella dress today. The bodice of the dress was HUGE. I'm going to have to take it in about an inch on each side. I've pinned it so DD could try it on. It'll be adorable once I fix it!!

IMG_1557.jpg

We also got a minnie twirl from the same seller. This one fits much better.

Good twirl!!

You guys are crazy talented -- the whole bunch of you!

If my girls were younger (and I had a Disney trip anywhere in my future) I might want to make some clothes.

For our last trip I did make the flour and water Mickey head shirts. As a matter of fact I'm wearing the one I made for DH right now. (he won't wear it! LOL)

But anyway gang -- since I know a lot of you are frequent posters on this board, would you please hop on over to the "introduce yourself" thread that's right on this board and introduce yourself? Here is it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1524068

Thanks!

Everyone's outfits have been an inspiration to us all!

Excellent work! I am very impressed. What a lucky daughter!

This seller is saved as a favorite--they do great work!

That sounds interesting--do you have a picture of the shirts? Could you tell me how to do this?

Thanks!

I know this wasn't to me. But thanks! I enlarged and copied an official Mickey Head paint chip (Home Depot, I have tons of em) and will try my hand at applique. I was looking at my sewing machine's confusing hand book and there's applique instructions in there. But it didn't go into detail like your instructions, so thank you!!!!

Hey! I use the same color bobbin thread as my top stitch thread too. (Just so I don't have to fiddle too much with the thread tension... )

OK, all yous! I did the LINED bodice on a jumper using that teal Ariel fabric I've seen some of you use. I did it!!!!! :yay: And it doesn't look stupid....BONUS! I used cooridinating rick rack (ocean waves!) at the top.

I hit a smallish glitch when I ran out of fabric after having not cut 2 skirt pieces. DOH! Now I have to wait till DH comes home from work so I don't have to drag 4 little ones with me to Walmart. For some reason, my boys hate this department!!! Too bad they're too young to send off to electronics whilst I shop!

I'm also itching to use my 40 % off coupon at Hancock. :cool2: I'll be using it on the $11.00 yard green shimmery fabric for an Ariel tail-skirt.

I just wanted to thank you all for the compliments on my first efforts! I totally appreciate it! Everyone is so nice here! :goodvibes Some threads are SOOOO catty and High-Schoolish so this is a nice change! :goodvibes :goodvibes

I tackled my first outfit with lining not too long ago: I was so apprehensive. But it turned out great, like yours I'm sure!

I love this thread too! Every time I think I am done sewing for Disney, I see something I "have" to try and copy. And like the Ariel outfit you made for your daughter I am having a great time making Disney play outfits as well. I look forward to seeing what everyone has made (or bought). And everyone is so helpful. I don't usually post much anywhere but these folks have made me feel so comfortable. Thanks everyone!

DW used to sew all the time, and I would occasionally help her with threading the machines, and the general maintenance and cleaning of them. Well, I guess I kinda taught myself too in the process.:rolleyes1

DW has developed skin allergies and now finds it hard to sew. She still wanted DD to wear customs at the park and for dinners, so I decided that I would give it a try.

Anyway, here is what we came up with.

This was also the first time that I had done any kind of applique work. I practiced on some scraps, until I got the hang of it. I think it turned out o.k.

Mickeydress007.jpg

So.... should I trudge on and try to make some more? DW has about 20 rubbermaid storage containers full of fabic and "stuff". I hate to see it all go to waste! :sad2:

OMGosh that is an adorable dress. Good job Dad :thumbsup2

Blessed Be,
Tina
