Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

Here are some very very simple instructions from the Parent Talk (out of Nick Jr) Mag. Another good use for those old t-shirts. Make a backpack tote. (think those inexpensive disney t-shirts you can buy at the disney store)....

Cut a T shirt across the chest from one underarm to the other, making a rectangle. Cut 2 pieces of 1 inch wide grosgrain ribbon (each piece equal to the combined length of 3 sides of the rectangle)
Cut off rectangles top corners (about a inch) For straps, lay a ribbon along an inner top edge, fold fabric over the ribbon, and secure hem by sewing or using a thin line of fabric glue, making sure not to glue the ribbon in place. Repeat on the other top edge with the second piece of ribbon.
For the bottom of the bag, fold in a 1 inch hem and sew or glue loose ribbon ends into each corner. Sew hem closed or seal with fabric glue.

TADA ! ! !

You could easily do this with any fabric rectangle. Get creative...have fun!

Everyone's been posting some great things! Love the pillowcases - they all look very crisp!
The Ariel applique is awesome - such a great job on her face! Love the sundress, too - I think it looks great on! Keep up the good work, ladies!

I made DD an apron top last night - it's not disney - I wanted to see how it would turn out first. I love it! It's such a cute style, I think. She may end up getting several apron tops!

The photos are a little blurry, I think one of two certain kidlets may have been turning dials and/or pushing buttons.

Ahh this is so sweet!
I love it. Her hair is adorable too! Great job!

I don't sew but I bought DD a plain pillowcase and have been embellishing it with paint pens. I outlined a mickey head in the middle and on the trim around the open edge. I will probably add iron-on letters for her name as well.

We will be bringing it with us in Sept along with a Sharpie for the characters to sign. DD can keep it in her room/on her bed rather than stuffing it in the drawer.

I gave this idea to a frien of ours several years ago for her kids trip. We had done t-shirts, and i didn't think of pillowcases until we returned home:confused: Any way for our trip in January, I plan on making a white pillowcase DRESS for my daughter and haveing the Minnie red ribbon with white poka dots as the ties. That way she can wear it now as a dress, later as a top, and then put on a stuffed animal. I was gong t use sharpies, but people here said the fabric pens are better. i also am bringing an embroidery hoop so the material can be pulled tight for the characters, and then i will get the autographs exactly where I want them to be!:cheer2:

I would like to try this. do you have any pictures of one that is complete? Thanks

I am making matching Easter dresses for my DD and 2 DN. The older DN has a waist measurement of 35. I've been looking through patterns and can not find one that matches that waist measurement unless I get to a ladies size 20. She is NOT that size. She can wear a size 14/16 most of the time. What should I do?

I haven't tried any, yet but have the original article and scaned it for you. I don't know how to post photos here, but will try.

Best way to insert images here is to use [ IMG ] link [ /IMG ] (without the spaces, of course. And end your link after the .jpg --- no quotes around the link either.

Wow, that is impressive! I went to the site you linked but didn't know where to start. Did you use a particular stitch? Did you trace the eyes first--I don't do needle point besides learning to sew--that would be something else to add to the list!

Great sneakers!

My Mom introduced me to the placemat purse a few weeks ago. They are so adorable and very easy to make. Here is the website:

I would love to try one of these--they would make great b'day gifts!

You did an excellent job on your dd's outfit! She is adorable!

I made a quilt with mine. I had shirts I loved but didn't wear anymore. They probably "shrunk" in the wash. haha!! I love it. Too bad I won't let anyone use it.

Thank you so much for all of the encouragement you guys have given me on the applique!

Heather!!!
Your Ariel is AWESOME!! Great job! Want to do one for me ;o)!!!

Sure, at $15/hour, that will be $75!!! :lmao: I now see why those boutique outfits go for so much! I think I'll get faster at it if I keep it up, though.

Wahoo!!! Nice embroidery!!!!! I did Alice, but I purposely chose a side view so I wouldn't have to worry about getting the eyes symetrical! You did an AWESOME job on Ariel!!

I traced Ariel's face on there from a coloring book page to make sure everything was symmetrical.

That is great! You did a wonderful job! She looks adorable. Ariel is my DD's favorite princess.

My daughter LOVES Ariel, too. The Little Mermaid is in my top 3 Disney movies of all time as well.

Wal Mart has ginormous activity books. I bought the Princess book. It has them all-the princesses that is. There's another book of just Ariel and one of Cars. The pictures look great for applique patterns-the faces are large so lots of detail. Some may have to be scanned and shrunk but I always find it easier to shrink because the pixels don't get all messy. Now, if I can only find Mickey and the gang!!

I found the coloring page I used for Ariel's face online. I just did a search for "Ariel coloring page" at yahoo.com and I got a bunch of different websites with Disney characters. I just right clicked on the images and saved them to my computer, and resized them before I printed. But, the books sound interesting. My DD would love a ginormous princess coloring book!!

Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to complete the bib and diaper-wipe case for her DD (1).
I love the pillowcases and I can't wait to see the diaper wipe case!!

OK, so after finding the shoes and experimenting with a few different kinds of paint  here is what I came up with! The pictures are sort of bad, so I don't think they quite do them justice - I think they turned out cute

I really like these shoes. I think they'd be cute on a boy, too (without the ribbons). Did you get them at WalMart?

I haven't ever made the t shirt dress. Did you get the directions on the "You can Make This" site? Maybe someone else who has made one could clarify??

Here's a link to the t-shirt dress instructions I used from teresajoy's bookmarks:
http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/operatic/312/tshirt.htm

Wow!! Very nice work. I can't believe that is a first attempt. So tell me, anything advice for those of us who haven't done this yet? Would it be easier to do the face before putting it on the shirt? Very nice though.

First of all, happy birthday to Baby Alive! :) I pieced this applique together directly on the shirt, so I didn't think of putting the face on before I sewed it onto the shirt. It could work, though! The only advice I have is to trace the details on with transfer paper, and then go over it with a fabric marker (one of the ones that wash out). The transfer paper smudged and it was hard to see the lines (that's what the dirty looking stuff is in the picture).

I made DD an apron top last night - it's not disney - I wanted to see how it would turn out first. I love it! It's such a cute style, I think. She may end up getting several apron tops!

Oh, I love it! Seeing your little cutie in this outfit makes me wish I would have discovered sewing when my DD was younger!

I love this outfit.... I bought the apron shirt pattern and these exact fabrics from Hobby Lobby with the intentions of making the top exactly the same and adding the stripe as a ruffle to the bottom of the top (well, I am making it a dress). Now I need more striped fabric. I LOVE the pants. You did a great job.

How funny! How old is your dd? They'll be twinkies!

Thanks everyone for the compliments!!!!! I think it may be my favorite outfit I've made for her. Well, for today, anyway. I'll probably have a new favorite tomorrow, LOL!

ok, so I am done with the pictures from our trip! Whew, ordered the photopass, it had some great pictures on it! I am wanting to wait till it comes to post a lot more pictures, but I think you all are anxious. Would you all want me to post each day on a new message or all on a photo page, like a diary with all 21 outfits on it. Let me know! also can I post a link to the photo page here? thanks, I will psot either way tonight!

They're ALL so cute! I think my favorites were the safari outfits - adorable!

Looks like you guys had a great time! Did the kids get lots of compliments on their outfits? Did you see other people in "boutique" outfits? I'm sort of hoping DD gets a lot of attention when we go. :rotfl: Is that weird?

And did you stay at the Poly? How did you like it? We're staying there for the first time in Sept, and we're SO excited!
